Liverpool FC tickets for 9 year old - how to get tickets? Should I get a membership?

Hello

My 8 year old son supports Liverpool. For his birthday he has asked for tickets to a Liverpool game. I have been trying to work out how to buy them and it looks as though the only tickets that become available are for members or people who live in Liverpool (or the hospitality tickets which are really expensive). The only thing I can think to do is get him and his dad (who would go with him) memberships so that they can (I think?) buy tickets in the members ticket sale next month.

Does that sound right or is there a better way to get tickets?

Thanks very much for any advice.

Hospitality is your best chance of a ticket. The membership is a big con See the odds of a ticket!
Don’t be fooled into buying one from someone on social media either most of them are scams.
Maybe look to do a pre season friendly in the summer instead.

sunstoked · 15/10/2022 22:08

As above - DS supports Liverpool so we keep paying the membership and have never managed to get any tickets. There are websites that sell tickets on still with a markup but not as expensive as hospitality. It’s such a shame, Liverpool isn’t really for the fans anymore with season ticket transfer schemes and extortionate mark up on re-sale there’s no chance of every day fans getting a look in.

I agree 're the members ballott. Apart from having to spend half a day trying to get onto the site, then choosing the most unpopular opponents, your chances of getting a tickets is vanishingly small.

if hospitality tickets are financially beyond you (they are v expensive) how about doing a stadium visit? They are still a bit expensive, but about a third of the price of the hospitality tickets. You get an escorted your round the stadium, including the players dressing room a q@a session with a LFC legend, while sitting in the dug out. You then get tickets to the museum where you get to see all the trophies and the chance to have your photo taken holding a replica of the European cup, with a background of the Kop.

I've done both, if you hadn't guessed. And probably enjoyed the stadium visit more. I've got lovely pictures of daughter cuddling a players shirt in the dressing room and trying to touch the This is Anfield sign as we went out to the pitch. We couldn't go on the pitch, of course!

Thanks so much. I was just about to buy the memberships before I posted so I'm feeling very glad that I did. Those odds are shocking!

The hospitality packages seem to be about £400 per ticket for the ones that aren't sold out. Is that about right or are there cheaper packages? I really want to make it happen for him but I'm not sure I can stomach that much.

Thanks very much for the information on the stadium tour user that sounds really good. I will investigate that.

What about tickets to an away match and Anfield visit?

RedHelenB · 15/10/2022 22:34

What's your local team?

Seveninfour · 15/10/2022 22:50

We’re members & we get tickets most seasons. We also enrol in the cup scheme which for a few pounds gives you the chance of a home game if LFC is drawn at home (we’re going to the Derby game in Nov). The more games you go to the higher your likelihood of getting tickets, so it is something you have to commit to over a few seasons. DP has been going to Anfield for 35 years though & used to be able to get tickets on the day!

redglobox · 15/10/2022 22:51

Is it different for away matches chops? From the website it looks like the away tickets are only available to season ticket holders or members who have been to a certain number of matches before. I think an away match would be fine.

We live in a town in the South East. I think the town has a football team. Otherwise it is Southampton and Reading.

Now that season ticket holders can sell back their ticket up to an hour before the game, there are more tickets available than ever for members. The biggest issue you have is downloading your ticket using the ridiculous app they insist you use 🤯
Keep trying.

TokyoSushi · 15/10/2022 22:57

It's bloody difficult, but it's doable with a membership! I'm a member and got nothing in the ballots, but I did eventually end up going to about 6 games last season. You basically have to be really, really persistent with the website, logging in when the members tickets are released a few days before and then Aldi keep checking back. Another good too is that they play a preseason friendly at Anfield in July, kids go free and it's really easy to get a ticket, you often see most of the team too.

As I say, you have to be very committed to get the ticket but it's well worth the hassle!

TokyoSushi · 15/10/2022 22:58

Sorry for the typos!

sayhellotothelittlefella · 15/10/2022 23:01

Buy tickets in the home end for the Southampton v Liverpool match, or one of the London games. Much better chance of getting tickets.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 15/10/2022 23:02

And then a stadium visit to Anfield.

FeebasAquarium · 15/10/2022 23:07

You may have more luck getting tickets for the league cup (tends not to sell out) or preseason friendlies - we’ve had five tickets at a time for that which would be unheard of for a premier league game. The kids have had pics with some of the players at the preseason games too (junior players at the time but some made the first team)
The stadium tour is worth a visit if you’re there as well.

redglobox · 15/10/2022 23:08

This is really helpful, thanks so much. How do you get tickets to the pre-season friendly game? Do you need to be a member for that one? I could get the membership for his birthday and then keep trying to get tickets all season and hopefully at least get some to the friendly game!

littlefella - I really like your idea about Southampton but would he be okay being in the wrong bit of the stadium? Wouldn't the Southampton supporters pick on him?!

YeH, don’t do that. That’s terrible advice. If he wore a LP shirt he’d get kicked out & while there’s unlikely to be any trouble from Southampton fans (not exactly a grudge match) he wouldn’t really be able to cheer if LP scored. It’s a
really bad idea for a 9 year old. Please don’t do that.

42isthemeaning · 15/10/2022 23:15

We did the stadium tour in August and it was well worth it! My ds was keen to get a Darwin shirt which we bought at great expense, then he was red carded in his first proper game. Ds was devastated for a while but he's worn the shirt again. The ups and downs of being a footie fan!

redglobox · 15/10/2022 23:17

Thanks AmIThatMam - I don't think we'll go for that option!

OP posts:
Loachworks · 15/10/2022 23:20

DS is a huge Liverpool fan. He knows a season ticket holder who occasionally sells him their (two) tickets if they can't make a game.
Pre COVID as a Birthday gift it was cheaper to pay for DS to fly to Barcelona, cheapish accommodation and get tickets to a match than buy Liverpool tickets for a Man United match. They were over £800 for a pair of tickets.

IamaBluebird · 15/10/2022 23:25

Please don’t buy your son tickets in the home end at any ground and then go along and cheer the opposition .

Howmanysleepsnow · 15/10/2022 23:28

It’s impossible. DH and both DS are Liverpool fans. DH bought membership. In 5 years he’s been offered hospitality tickets at £400 each once. That’s it. He’s also been on the waiting list for a season ticket for 25 years. And we live walking distance. If anyone knows how to get tickets please, please tell me!

Bezzi · 15/10/2022 23:29

Keep an eye out for pre season friendlies. We've been the last 2 years as they release tickets to general sale so are easy to buy. (Kids went free with an adult ticket this year too.)
Maybe an Anfield tour for his bday and then hopefully you'll strike lucky for a pre season friendly. It's so worth the wait. Singing you'll never walk alone in the Kop - spine tingler for sure!!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 15/10/2022 23:30

I went for hospitality for my husband's 50th. He used to have a season ticket and had t been to a game for 25 years as he now lives hundreds of miles away. It cost me £1600 and hospitality was 2 free pints. Great seats but it was a once in a lifetime payout for me. I also have membership and it's worth nada

caringcarer · 15/10/2022 23:35

Stadium tour and junior kit with his favourite player name on back of shirt is the way to go. We do this and DS wears his kit to cheer Liverpool on in our lounge on the TV.

redglobox · 15/10/2022 23:40

Thanks so much for that information, that's really useful. I hope you get tickets one day Howmanysleepsnow! I am thinking stadium tour now and then try for pre-season friendly tickets in the summer.
