What was your all time favourite Christmas present?

Hi all,

A thread has just reminded me of my favourite Christmas present I got when I was around 6 or 7 and I was just wondering about everyone else's?

Mine was a cat. I don't really agree with giving animals as present but my beloved cat died a year prior from cancer and my parents said I couldn't have another one so I just sort of accepted I'd never have a cat again (kids are dramatic haha) but we went to my grandmas and she was like "oh I've left your present on the bed, go and get it" and I walked in and there was this little cat with a pink bow wrapped around her neck ( it was removed straight away ) and honestly I was so happy and the cat was the sweetest little thing and she became my best friend, I'm even tearing up a bit now thinking about that Christmas.

Just a light hearted thread as I don't think Christmas should be about material things.

Oooh and the year I got an ala carte kitchen, best ever! Remember the advert with the girl making Swiss roll and cold beans?! 🤣🤢

@nilsmousehammer oh how lovely and thoughtful of your parents

some of my favourites were teeny tiny tears and Mr Frosty (not the same year!) oh and pretty peach Avon products.

Probably Ballerina Sindy - from my granny. I think I was 9. The little pointe shoes with straps were my favourite.

Big yellow tea pot! Close second roller skate boots a few years later.

A black and white portable tv joint present with my younger brother in 1980 (we were aged 10 and 9).

Oh the joy! And the ensuing arguments 😂

Also Sindy ballerina and Sindy horse and a music box with ballerina.

And Trionimoes - which I ended up playing a couple of years ago at DP's friends house! The nostalgia 😍

White kitten that came in a box in the 80’s

most recently my dog, funded by dh and my my parents (and a bit me 🤣) but she’s a bonkers fab apparently pedigree woof that we have al adored for the last 6 years!

dmum also bought me Chanel rouge noir mail varnish in the 90’s when it was super hard to find! Happy days

I was 12, in my first term at grammar school, and my dad bought me a puppy much to my mother's disgust. He died a few months later so it was our last Christmas with him.

I've had many dogs since but none of them had the special place in my heart that my Christmas puppy had.

I just realised that sounds like the puppy died. It was my dad that died so that was a last Christmas with my dad.

It wasn't a present, as such. Mum and Dad made an ice skating scene from our living room mirror, pipe cleaners, tissue paper and cotton wool. I was about 9 and was just enamoured of it, it was so lovely.

Somethingsnappy · 15/10/2022 20:17

It was a life size soft toy dog, when I was about 7. My parents often bought me quite practical presents, but this one was pure indulgence. I've never been quite so excited about a present in my life.

Aww! Caringcarer that is a lovely story. How nice your Aunty Joan sounds putting all that thought in.

A tie between the sims 2 and a pink Barbie typewriter

Ukholidaysaregreat · 15/10/2022 20:24

My best present was a Fisher Price dolls house. I saw it on the top of my Mum and Dad's wardrobe but then totally accepted that it had been picked up by Father Christmas and delivered back to me. Loved it.

Two Goosebumps books in hardcover, one where the skeleton's eyes lit up when you pressed a button, and one that had a torch. I thought they were amazing.

Angeljayne · 15/10/2022 20:34

The A Team van with Hannibal, Face , Murdock and BA Baracus figures. Loved whizzing that van along the carpet and shouting "I love it when a plan comes together".

HuntingoftheSnark · 15/10/2022 20:37

A baby Sasha doll when I was seven. I'm 53 and he's still sitting in my book shelf.

HewasH20 · 15/10/2022 20:41

I loved my Sindy horse. My nan used to make all the clothes for my Sindy like Nilsmousehammer as they were so pricey, but Mum & Dad bought me the horse and riding set.

A few years later I was given a Stylophone. Forget the fact that it was advertised by Rolf Harris (hindsight is a wonderful thing) but you could make it squeal & it was so cool.

mumonthehill · 15/10/2022 20:41

Mr Frosty although I admit it was rubbish in the end. Fame make up set, I was obsessed with the film and the lipstick. As an adult a kitchen aid mixer which is used and used and was such a surprise as it was way over budget.

inappropriateraspberry · 15/10/2022 20:43

1980s, an A La Carte kitchen! God I loved that thing and treasured each tiny box of pretend food.

PauliesWalnuts · 15/10/2022 20:50

A Caroline’s Home dolls house in about 1979. Extra special because that’s my name.

2bazookas · 15/10/2022 20:57

My lifetime best present ever, was a mousehouse for occupation by my pet mice. Similarf to a dolls house it had two floors, four or five interconnecting rooms, 2 stair cases and the front was all glass. Made by a local carpenter as a secret commission from my Dad. I was 6; I've never forgotten the absolute jawdropping thrill of opening that present on Christmas morning.

Msgrieves · 15/10/2022 21:05

I always wanted the Cadbury mini moneybox thing, I did have a Mr frosty, was crap. I also loved the Simon game, also one I had called lights out. Probably my favourite ever was the commodore 64, was so exciting.

Msgrieves · 15/10/2022 21:07

Also a chemistry set, my mam knew me well.
