I'm from The south east, 40 mins away from London by train.

I've come up to Liverpool to see an old friend and what?! It's like a different culture. People are so lovely to us?

My child has a disability and people have been brilliant. I know I'm generalising but literally, guarantee a hard look from lots of people when out in my own area back home

People here are just so.. personal? Very friendly and kind.

Why aren't people in the South East like this? Mostly they aren't anyway! Mostly just keep themselves to themselves etc And I'm not even talking about London

My mum lives in Billericay and people there are vile.

You see, I find this fascinating. I'm Scottish. From a medium-sized town. On the whole, people are chatty in places like the checkout in Tesco, but I also find that the stereotype "nippy sweetie" grumpy sharp-tongued person is alive and well, and we coined the adjective "dour" for a reason.

Im an English transplant to Scotland and I think the Scots are bloody brilliant. Even the nippy and dour ones are just lovely underneath and I don’t find it takes much to break through.

I think this is bollocks! Lumping groups of people into friendly and unfriendly. I’ve met some unbelievably rude and grumpy folk from
Yorkshire, some aggressive women from Liverpool, some utter dickheads from Manchester and some of the most bigoted people I’ve ever met from Lincolnshire.

Currently pregnant and until recently working in London twice a week, I encountered nothing but kindness and consideration from the strangers on the underground and the train. I often had conversations with random while London.

I live in the south eastern countryside and everyone is so friendly when I’m out with my dogs, saying hello and chatting about my dogs.

I think some people just give off a don’t talk to me vibe and a lot of southerners have good self awareness and know when not to bother people. I’ve found some northerners to be in your face ‘friendly’ which is both inauthentic and annoying.

My DH of 32 years is a Mancunian. I bloody love visiting Manchester because people are so friendly and kind.

I totally disagree! I moved from Cambridge to Yorkshire about 3 years ago, and I have found the local people to be very rude, impatient, and constantly swearing! I have had my car bumped into 3 times in as many years, totally their fault, and instead of apologising, they try to blame me for the accident, for being in their way! They are slow workers, and have no understanding of good customer service. If you're shopping near to closing time, they will hurry you along to make sure they can get away on time- never mind if you have finished your shopping or not. Don't believe a word about Northerners being friendlier than Southerners!

But weird to revive a thread 2 years old to say you don’t like people from Yorkshire.

Princessfluffy · 02/08/2024 20:56

I'm find the friendliest people are in Glasgow and Norfolk.

Have to say i agree about Yorkshire! I also believe that Northerners are more friendly in a superficial way, they talk to anyone but can be very judgmental behind peoples backs.
