Does anyone still wear maternity clothes?

I'm interested to know if other (non-pregnant) MNers ever wear maternity clothes, or is that just weird?

I'm throwing out most of mine but there's a few things I think I might keep. I don't think they're obviously maternity but of course they're cut a bit more generously at the front, and I don't want people thinking I'm pregnant again/still.

And as for the tights, I find the maternity sort so much comfier I'm not sure I ever want to go back...

I kept the leggings- I am always cold and they keep my body warm under my tops.
They are so high I can wear them over my boobs like a sleeveless jumpsuit and its so warm under jumpers

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 13/10/2022 11:44

I kept some items as they're really comfy and they don't look like maternity- agree the tights and leggings are way more comfortable

Literally came on to say tights when I saw your title 😂 never going back!!

I'm still in my giant maternity pants, but my mum had a 'gentle word' about me still wearing my maternity stuff Al the time Blush

Not that I've stopped completely but I did buy some clothes that fit properly

CFinn · 13/10/2022 12:22

Good to see all the love for maternity tights!

I'm just sorting out my wardrobe and have realised that almost everything is either maternity, or super uncomfortable. I've had two pregnancies with 18 months of lockdowns in between and I think my standards/tolerance of waistbands have slipped! Time to go shopping I guess...

I had a maternity cardigan that I wore until it fell apart. I miss it tbh. It was gorgeous! (And 19 years ago most maternity clothes were a bit shit)

Magn · 13/10/2022 12:29

I still wear maternity shirts, they're more generous across the boobs.

ShadowPuppets · 13/10/2022 12:30

I still have a couple of dresses but I’ve had 2 summer babies and most of my ‘maternity’ gear was just loose maxi dresses so I have no intention of chucking them!

With both babies though I did instigate a rule that I chucked the giant black pants after baby’s 8 week jabs. I’m not wearing sexy pants every day but the massive full coverage ones 2 sizes bigger than my normal size were just TOO comfy and I knew if I didn’t I’d still be in them when DCs were off to uni!

gretr · 13/10/2022 12:34

Tights and some thick leggings from H&M. They’re starting to fall apart now, but I’m on the look out for more!! I didn’t really buy and dresses as most of mine are the loose type that I could wear until the end.

Oh god, I’m still in mine! The embarrassment in seeing them on the line is offset by the comfort level.

I agree with leggings and tights. I wasn’t going to go back to jeans tbh but the seraphine post-maternity ones are excellent and really comfy

sheepandcaravan · 13/10/2022 12:36

Leggings because I had two sections and I find anything low annoys me.

MargotChateau · 13/10/2022 12:40

I’ve sadly lost 8 kilos of my pre pregnancy weight and I’m currently in my third trimester, so maternity wear doesn’t fit me, it floats on my arms and legs, and only fits around my belly, I gave up and now just wear non-maternity knit dresses that are snug on my ghostly frame and stretch and make room for the bump. .

Fuck so called morning sickness it’s making my life a misery. So grateful for this miracle pregnancy but pregnancy is not always easy huh. I had hopes of getting a curvy butt and boobs during pregnancy, not looking like a haggard witch.

TheLastStark · 13/10/2022 12:41

A pair of dungarees from H&M and some skirts.

I also loved my leggings but they were cheap and fell apart and was too embarrassed to replace Blush

MrsTimRiggins · 13/10/2022 12:41

Nope. Anything specifically maternity has been stored away at the top of the wardrobe for next time. They’re either obviously maternity as have ruching or gathering at the sides or they hang lower at the front in an unflattering way, so there was no way I was wearing them pp. i did wear my maternity jeans once or twice in the first couple of weeks post c section but had my normal ones back on by 4 weeks PP, so stuck with them.
My friends kept telling me how I’d never go back to my thongs after baby, but I only wore the big pants to sleep in and stayed with my usual the whole time 😂

caringcarer · 13/10/2022 12:45

I still wear an old Mothercare jumper I bought about 23 years ago. It just won't wear out.

AffIt · 13/10/2022 12:57

I've never even been pregnant, but I accidentally bought a maternity yoga top a few years ago with ruching at the sides.

Comfiest thing EVER and very forgiving. I wear it all the time to the gym.

Magenta82 · 13/10/2022 13:01

I have kept quite a few dresses, including a smart black one I wear for funerals. They aren't obviously maternity clothes and I like them.

Twizbe · 13/10/2022 13:20

I'm answering this wearing an old maternity shirt.

I've kept two. They are now just oversized checked shirts. The one today I'm wearing tied instead of buttoned up.

I've only recently got rid of all my nursing vests (stopped breastfeeding 2 years ago!) they were such good vests for underclothes when it's cold. They are far too big for me now so that's why I got rid.

hellosunshineagainxxx · 13/10/2022 13:26

My son is 3 and I'm still in the giant pants. Its a running joke with my husband he says he doesn't mind as long as I take them off before sex 🤣

PurBal · 13/10/2022 13:31

I stopped because someone asked when I was expecting again…

CoraggioCara · 13/10/2022 13:31

Hehe.

I remember my mum gently ushered me out of my maternity trousers after DC1 was born.

Yep, i kept and still wear a range of things I liked trousers/shirts/vests. They are just clothes now.

I had some brilliant trousers which are amazing for long haul flights. Comfy but not scruffy.

Brieeeeeeeee · 13/10/2022 13:38

I still wear a few cheap H&M vests which are just very long on me now - not worth charity shopping them as they’re a bit lived in. So comfy.

I wore quite clingy tops and knitted dresses in pregnancy, and they all clung to my post-pregnancy body in such an awful way, showcasing my flab, that I had to get rid. One day I’ll lose the weight.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/10/2022 13:38

This is fascinating! I opened this thread assuming everyone would reply to OP saying 'no way!' 😄

For me, I didn't put a maternity outfit near me once I gave birth. I was oddly fixated by this. I was not organised in most ways but did always make sure I had an outfit to wear leaving hospital that was non-maternity but would be ok post-partum.

Kept & reused my maternity clothes for each pregnancy & had some lovely pieces but couldn't contemplate wearing them when I wasn't pregnant

That's what I'm afraid of! Although hopefully most people wouldn't be so presumptuous
