Solo holiday booked but I'm terrified

A few months ago in a fit of craziness I booked a solo holiday. Dh doesn't have enough annual leave and the kids are away at uni. I've got loads of leave to take so decided to book a solo holiday to a lovely little hotel we've been to many times.

Now it's almost time to travel I'm terrified! I'm scared I'll feel lonely and sad thoughts and memories from the past will flood in. I'm only going for a week so know that if I hate it I'll be home soon enough. I need to get used to travelling alone as I work pt and have so much more time off then dh and I'm sick of spending it sitting at home.

I've loaded up my kindle and trying to be positive but my heart is racing and I'm honestly so so scared. I love being alone and my own company so am shocked at feeling so scared. Has anyone travelled alone and hated it or loved it? Can you share your experiences?

@Powergower

I am sure you will enjoy it. Some are genuine single people, some prefer going alone (partner doesn't do holidays/works away/etc)

I have gone on quite a few solo holidays and loved it. It is fun to meet new people though none became friends. Usually there is room to do your own thing or if you like night life to just go along with a group.

I particularly like that you can sit down with the group for a meal without some woman thinking you are after their husband! It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic!

Also remember you only need see the others whilst you are there so if you cannot stand any of them (would be strange not to get on with everyone though) you don't need to see them again.

I am betting that if you sit somewhere with your kindly someone would ask what you are reading (which ay end up with a general chit chat on books!)

@forloves I honestly can't remember the names of the blogs, I'm afraid... I just did a general internet search on 'solo female travel' and then specifically for Corfu (which, yes, I would recommend and if you are going for the hiking then this book is great). There's loads of info out there. I've actually just got back from 10 days alone in South Korea, which was brilliant – very safe, easy public transport, amazing food. Looking at Uzbekistan or Mexico next! Good luck + happy travel planning.

@Powergower how was your solo trip?
