Posting here for traffic.

Has anyone gone through the assessment process for adhd for a child and then not get a diagnosis?

Not me but a friend’s son, the assessor felt he didn’t meet the criteria.

And Dd’s friend was referred for adhd assessment but was diagnosed with autism, not adhd.

I think by the time it gets to assessment the majority are diagnosed because they get screened out earlier unless it’s highly likely.

I know someone this happened to. A dd of distant family who school had scored as fine on the adhd scales so no adhd dx. She got an asd dc but not adhd.

Yes but he’s already got an asd diagnosis but has adhd traits.

Not yet but dd has asd school referred here for adhd assessment but I’m not convinced I think she is PDA but will see

My dc scored low on the questionnaire completed by school but still diagnosed based on the self report, our report, QB test, observations during the assessment and strong family history.

PDA isn’t diagnosed over here. At best it’s ASD with demand avoidant traits.

Yes. DC had an assessment for autism and ADHD. Got the autistic diagnosis but not ADHD.

I’m aware of that, was just saying I don’t think she has adhd I know it isn’t a diagnosis here

Does anyone know the length of time between a diagnosis of adhd then going on to get a EHCP for school?

NoYouSirName · 13/10/2022 12:48

EHCP isn’t diagnosis dependent. It won’t be length of time from diagnosis but from application, and diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean an EHCP is needed / given.

NoYouSirName · 13/10/2022 12:48

Sunshine Support have some good info about EHCP. You can apply yourself or the school can.

GoingtotheWinchester · 23/11/2022 08:24

@ThatFridayFeeling11 it wouldn’t be a given - I know a fair few children with ADHD diagnoses with no EHCP as they would never meet the threshold for assessment.

And as pp said, you don’t need a diagnosis for an EHCP.
