Can I ask what you are all spending on food shopping?

We are a family of 4, two adults and two teenagers. I shop in Tesco, Iceland and Lidl. I'm finding that my monthly shop is nearer to £700 than the £500-£550 that it used to be but there's nothing I can really cut out. We all eat at home most of the time so it's breakfast, lunches and dinners for us all everyday, the kids take packed lunch every day, and that's not including any alcohol that I'll occasionally buy separately. I don't splurge, just normal foods, nothing fancy, basic dinners, packed lunch stuff etc. I tend to do a big shop for Sunday which is now about £120 and then top ups of bread, milk, fresh fruit and salad or anything that's missing for a meal etc during the week. Just wanted to see how it compared really. Us two adult are trying to eat healthier/lose weight and I'm noticing that that's more expensive too! I also try and run the freezer down sometimes but it doesn't make that much difference...

I'd rather not add it up, to be honest ... 😆

Yep! I'd say 200 easily a week, perhaps more. I shop at Asda and Aldi occasionally saibsgurys and coop

I do find these threads interesting too for the wide variety of response. It's like a little snapshot in people's lives.

We are 2 adults, a teen (who eats enough for 2) and pets. Roughly £120-£130 a week plus an occasional Costco run for mostly household/cleaning. No alcohol but we do like good quality chicken/meat/fish. It used to be £100 a week and we haven't really changed what we buy so the price rises have definitely kicked in.

£160 a week. Family of 5, including 3 adults and 2 young teens. We shop at Asda and are pretty careful. That doesn't include booze as we rarely drink at home. Our bill has gone up as has everybody's.

I certainly noticed price increases on individual items last week. The only one I can remember is Elnett hairspray which has gone up to £6.50.

Family of 4, no pets, we do one big online shop a month with all food, toiletries, nappies, cleaning products, alcohol, treats...etc and a top up shop usually in the middle of the month, average spend per month is £200. We generally buy supermarket own brand products plus we get several pretty good discounts from multiple retailers through a reward scheme at work (15% in nearly all supermarkets, vouchers for free products...etc) we also meal plan and prep when possible plus bulk cook

Yeah there's a general trend of things going up but some haven't/not much whereas others have just spiralled.

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 11/10/2022 19:27

Around £200 per month for 2 adults and 1 child.

Buy most stuff from Tesco and Home Bargains with a little bit of Costco thrown in.

Tisfortired · 11/10/2022 19:32

Family of 3, DS is 9 and one medium dog. We spend about £90 a week at Tesco and then about a tenner on top up milk/bread/fruit. We also usually get a takeaway on a Friday night.

So probably in the region if £450 a month which is a scary figure really. Also pregnant with DC2 so this will go up. I can also see how easily this could be much more expensive it would be with teenage kids!

Beezknees · 11/10/2022 19:56

£60 a week ish. Me and one teen. That includes alcohol and toiletries.

xyzzyx · 11/10/2022 20:00

Family of 4 we do a £100 shop at beginning of month. Always running out to top up bread milk and snacks though. Maybe £200 in total. We shop in a mixture of Aldi Sainsburys Tesco Morrisons and our local farm shop!

xyzzyx · 11/10/2022 20:01

Oh and Amazon for my bulk orders but that's once every four months and

PorridgePowered · 27/10/2022 20:03

Just looked at my bank statements. Two adults, 1 dog, a baby on formula. About £100 a week. Includes dog food and chews, alcohol, cleaning products, formula and nappies, toileteries, and the occasional house thing/baby clothes. Maybe get to the pub once a week, and eat 3 meals away from home a month so it covers most things. Feels like loads and good value at the same time?? Could cut back, but as long as I keep food waste to an absolute minimum I am content.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/10/2022 20:17

I spend approx 150 a week, which includes pet food x 3 cats, cat litter, dishwasher tabs, washing powder etc. We do drink but buy it separately. Dd went away to uni and is spending 25-30 a week but our bill has not reduced at all with her not there.

however, I absolutely know I could save money by various means, but I need to get my head in gear to do it. I meal plan but I don’t always follow it, I buy way too much meat, dh won’t eat leftovers, and I find I am not in a good rhythm at the moment. I am determined to try to trim that 150 down to 120!
