Even the King can’t understand how she’s still prime minister 😂

I mean what's "Conservative" about crashing the pension funds and wiping billions off the value of stocks and shares?

What's "Conservative" about costing the country £65billion for sweet FA?

What's "Conservative" about making government borrowing more expensive to pay back?

What's Conservative about letting £4billion of furlough be claimed fraudulently?

What's Conservative about costing the country £11billion for a Treasury fuck up?

What's "Conservative" about paying more in debt interest than we spend on education for our children?

This, a million times.

Placemarking. It’s going to be a long bumpy ride downhill.

I disagree. We’re in free fall. General election before Christmas is where my money is.

tobee · 13/10/2022 13:40

I think the reason the press aren't mentioning Brexit is for similar reasons that they're barely mentioning the celebrities v The Daily Mail story

tobee · 13/10/2022 13:44

If only the pm doing "a screeching u turn" meant that we were back to where we were before the mini budget. Bit like if Putin resigned and Russian troops withdrew from the entire territory hoping that Ukraine would be back to where it was in February

Notonthestairs · 13/10/2022 13:45

DuncinToffee · 13/10/2022 12:36

👀
A former cabinet minister tells me: “Brace for the mother of all U-Turns on the mini budget today. A friendly person in the know is advising us to steer clear of the media today to avoid the explosion. We wouldn’t want to look silly by tomorrow.”

twitter.com/nicholaswatt/status/1580517767299547136?t=VUQxaoUvYQiH8inen3G7Fw&s=19

I guess MPs have been burnt enough defending statements only to find No. 10 reverses over them.

I don't think a U turn can save Truss & Kwarteng now.

Yes it's not in media owners interests.

Blossomtoes · 13/10/2022 14:16

Nor do I. They’re toast. The only decent and honest thing the Tory party can do is get shot of them, install a caretaker leader (perhaps Sunak or Mordant) and call a general election. Fuck knows what their manifesto would be though.

Yeah. The damage is done.

Yeah, I agree with this. Truss will be lucky to still be PM in six weeks, I reckon.

The Tory bots have gone very quiet.

Cornettoninja · 13/10/2022 14:40

The Tory bots have gone very quiet.

which I feel is a bit odd. I felt sure there’d be a load of ‘told you it was a bad idea to get rid of BJ’ going on at the first stumble. Maybe they’re biding their time until it’s really bad.

I don’t regret pushing for BJ being ousted, it’s just unveiled how revoltingly incompetent the rest of the tories are.

ClaudineClare · 13/10/2022 14:53

I don't regret it either, I think it is a good thing that this fiasco has demonstrated how fucked up the Tory party is, how savage it really is and its dearth of real talent. With Johnson still in charge and hiding behind his "loveable" bumbling buffoon act, there was a real danger they would get in again.

Blossomtoes · 13/10/2022 14:56

I just want them consigned to the wilderness - preferably until after I’m dead.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/10/2022 14:56

I think whether they U turn or not, they have totally lost the confidence and trust of both the country and the markets

ClaudineClare · 13/10/2022 14:57

Just saw this un the Guardian:

Kwarteng said he is “not going anywhere” and refused to rule out any changes in the future. He acknowledged that there was “some turbulence” after the mini-budget but said it’s a “very dicey situation globally”.

Based on past events, when a minister under fire says they are not going anywhere they often end up gone very quickly!

Exasperatednow · 13/10/2022 14:59

Imagine being the one constant in government for 12 years and then finally getting your chance to be in charge and fucking it up so spectacularly.

DuncinToffee · 13/10/2022 15:02

Bots have been busy on other threads, defending JRM with whataboutery on Germany for example.

You would think after 12 years you might have observed enough about how things work to realise how not to do certain things wouldn't you..

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 13/10/2022 15:14

The real scary thing about all this is that this is the vision they all have for the country. They're angry about the how and when but not the what. They all dream about scrapping the NHS, scrapping benefits, giving all the power to employers and landlords, but most of them know it'll never wash with the public. So instead they chip away a bit at time, while pretending they value these services. So from a tory perspective her mistake was letting the mask slip by going too far too fast.

TokyoSushi · 13/10/2022 15:23

I wonder if Truss might throw Kwarteng under the bus as one last ditch attempt to hold on. Scrap the mini budget, say it was all Kwasi's fault, and sack him. Much easier to do while he's in Washington.

But who would be the Chancellor then? Who would even take the job? I don't think that Sunak or Javid would...

I still think that she'll be out by Christmas. I wonder if the 1922 might change the rules and they'll try to swap a new leader in, Johnson?! Or if Starmer can somehow do something, not sure what?

the80sweregreat · 13/10/2022 16:31

On the Guardian comments, made me lol today
Going , going , kwong !

Sticking up for JRM must be the ultimate in getting desperate.
