Growth, growth, growth.

The Blue wall is a Remoaner inspired sleeper agent from the EU and is part of the anti-growth coalition which includes the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon who we detest.

Growth, growth growth.

Vote Tory, bringing confidence to grazing unicorns in sunny uplands near you, that you can't afford to visit you pleb, know your place.

ClaudineClare · 12/10/2022 17:30

How long will Liz last. Lots of the front and bankbenchers did not look happy today (apart from Braverman, Coffey and Cleverly).

Coffey always looks slightly disconnected. I wonder if she has addiction issues of some kind.

the80sweregreat · 12/10/2022 17:41

Cleverly is one of my relatives MPs.
He thinks he is eyeing you the top job one day

Well if he is still an MP after the next election there won't be many other Tories to choose from.

Tory MP on Truss at the 1922 Committee: "Worst since I've been to since 2015. Unspeakably bleak"

twitter.com/estwebber/status/1580247649915408384?s=46&t=ortHAHGtgvshaXPOC5N8RA

There is talk in Tory circles of MPs agreeing to a “unity candidate” so they could remove Truss as party leader in a vote of confidence. Unlikely @Conservatives will be able to unite around a single figure. But incredible this is in ether after only 37 days of Truss in power

twitter.com/mij_europe/status/1580236996114382851?s=46&t=ortHAHGtgvshaXPOC5N8RA

Robert Halfon, who chairs the education select committee, told Truss she had "trashed the last 10 years" of the Conservative economic record, according to one colleague.

If I were to take a guess at a unity candidate I'd take a punt on Ben Wallace.

But does Ben Wallace know what a woman is?

verdantverdure · 12/10/2022 19:22

YouGov were asking what people thought of James Cleverly and Ben Wallace yesterday. I wonder what that was about?

verdantverdure · 12/10/2022 19:24

Isn't the India trade deal in jeopardy because India wants a lot of visas for their young people and Cruella Braverman says Indian migrants are known for overstaying their visas or something?

L1ttledrummergirl · 12/10/2022 19:27

I find the polls interesting because generally voting turnouts are relatively small and the conservatives do well. When times are hard and people are struggling, that's when they use their vote. 1997 is a case I point.
I suspect things have the potential to be worse for the conservatives.

Notonthestairs · 12/10/2022 19:47

"A member of Truss's own cabinet tells me Truss's and Kwarteng's governance is so dire that some Tory MPs would vote against her in a confidence vote, preferring even a general election that cost them their seats to the current economic chaos"

twitter.com/peston/status/1580262987402616837?s=46&t=tZiiGCKye8ZeSmOqcJRsFA

Which Cabinet member?!

Cornettoninja · 12/10/2022 20:10

If it wasn’t such a dire state they’re getting the country into I’d be enjoying a bit of schaudenfraude at this right now. This is what people who have an over inflated opinion of themselves getting into positions of power looks like folks!

TokyoSushi · 12/10/2022 20:12

It definitely seems to be getting worse and worse, I think she'll be gone before Christmas, still not sure how...

tobee · 12/10/2022 20:46

It's like in the last 12 years the Tory pms have decided to be worse than last one but also in very differing ways. Truss's awfulness is totally different to Johnson's awfulness.

On (whichever) podcast I was listening to yesterday they seemed to be saying that a unity candidate would not be Sunak as MPs hate him. Presumably because he did the dirty work that they were too spineless to do wrt Johnson going. Mordant was mentioned but seen as too divisive. Wallace was the most likely for unity but he won't want to so....

If the BoE stop propping up pension funds on Friday like they say she may be gone by the weekend, ripped apart by the insane pensioners who voted her in.

DuncinToffee · 12/10/2022 21:20

Oof

PM: Your majesty.
Charles: So you've come back again
PM: It's a great pleasure.
Charles: Dear oh dear. Anyway...

I expected them to start insinuating that the OBR forecasts are questionable -

“Its record of forecasting accurately hasn’t been enormously good”.

Jacob Rees-Mogg casts doubt on the OBR.

twitter.com/paulbranditv/status/1580298028657037313?s=46&t=UEXdLz2vlZ3fMODbNMiWDw

Indeed the OBR forecasts are often a bit out but not in the way JRM implies.

"A reminder that the OBR has consistently overestimated future growth in pretty much every forecast they've done (including ones around budgets containing tax cuts).

OBR forecasts of productivity growth vs reality"

(Tweet includes FT graph showing OBR forecasts higher than actual productivity growth)

Shelf life of a lettuce! 🥬

That exchange with the King is less than flattering 😬

DuncinToffee · 12/10/2022 21:59

JRM is basically saying “Fudge the numbers so it looks like our policies make sense or we’ll get rid of you"
