If you found £15 in the street

Would you hand it in at the police station as you are supposed to?

Because I found £15 this morning, no one around and it was in the process of being blown onto the road. Obviously, I still have it but a quick Google tells me that it's considered theft. So, would you hand it in or not?

No I wouldn't

LottieTx · 06/10/2022 14:31

honestly - no. £15 I wouldn’t bother. £150 yes.

gamerchick · 06/10/2022 14:31

No

Put it in a charity pot if you're bothered though.

Why would you Google for a small bit of money? If it was a bag full of bank notes then fine, but nobody is going to ask at a police station for 15 quid.

ofwarren · 06/10/2022 14:32

I would keep it

Brieeeeeeeee · 06/10/2022 14:32

I don’t know where the local police station is, so no.

Imissmoominmama · 06/10/2022 14:32

I think the equivalent of handing it into a police station these days is putting a post on the local fb page.

The police station here has closed.

Skinnermarink · 06/10/2022 14:33

I’d keep it, I found a tenner once when I was 11 which was like a lottery win. My dad made me knock on the door of every single person on our road to ask if they’d lost it.

They all said no so I did get my tamagotchi.

Ive always kept random found money but anything that remotely identifiable like shopping or a wallet of course i’d hand in.

Worriedaboutethics · 06/10/2022 14:33

@Thatsthatthen87

if you do you get it back in 6 months if no one claims it.

zould you go to cops to say you lost 15 ?

Curiosity, same reason I Google most things.

No. I would keep it.

gamerchick · 06/10/2022 14:34

Have you never found money before?

sunlovingcriminal · 06/10/2022 14:34

Was it a £5 and a £10 note? Lucky for you that they hadn't blown off in separate directions.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/10/2022 14:34

I would keep £15 with a clear conscience, I wouldn't give it to charity either

Incrediblebuttrue · 06/10/2022 14:34

In a wallet, yes. Blowing around, no! How would anyone even identify it? (Makes mental note to go around all police stations claiming to have lost £50).

Imissmoominmama · 06/10/2022 14:35

I found a £20 note on our high street. It had been dropped by a teenager who had just been paid from her job in a cafe. I posted on the local forum to say I’d found something and that if anyone had lost anything around such a time, could they message me. Her mum messaged.

Yea, a quid here and there, why?

pilates · 06/10/2022 14:35

Keep it. The chances of finding the owner is very remote.

PinkButtercups · 06/10/2022 14:35

Nah, finders keepers.

I found £20 in the co op one day. Winner.

mooshypooshy · 06/10/2022 14:35

I'd give it to charity. I would feel bad keeping it.
I once found a lot of money on a petrol station forecourt and handed it in to the girl behind the till. When I told people I'd done this everyone took the piss and said she will have kept it. But that's on her. As far as I'm concerned I did the right thing and to this day I swear I would have done it again or maybe driven it to the police station but that was a long way out of my way and I was running late for work.

Yeah, especially as it's pretty windy here.

Raddix · 06/10/2022 14:36

I’d keep it. You can’t identify the owner. If you take it to the police station or hand it in to a shop it’ll just end up in someone else’s pocket.

Sh4rkAttack · 06/10/2022 14:37

I found £20 on a path in a park years ago. No-one around and I kept it. That evening there was a trailer on tv for a programme about morality or something, asking "what would you do if you found £20?", and I was convinced that the programme would feature footage of me stealing a planted note. It didn't, but I did wonder whether it was a complete coincidence.

Hoppinggreen · 06/10/2022 14:37

Hand it it, it’s not mine and it’s wrong to keep it.
As for what happens to it after that it’s none of my business, I did the right thing and that’s it for me

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 06/10/2022 14:39

I’d post on a local fb page (if you are in a small town) that you had found a small amount of money and see if anyone claims it.

If you are in a city I would just keep it.

happyinherts · 06/10/2022 14:43

It would cost me that in return bus fare to get to a Police Station. It's not theft if you've found it. If you have a conscious about keeping it, donate it to a charity. True owner is unlikely to be found.
