If you are an average household with an average household income how much would you happily pay for a week or two in the sun in the summer?

Just that really.

What do you consider to be an average family income? and for one week or two (it does make a massive difference)?

Dirtylittleroses · 02/10/2022 16:59

As the average full time wage is 32k and it’s by far the norm for two adults to work, so I’m guessing you’re asking if you’re on 60k ish a year with two kids how much you’d pay for a holiday?

boogieboogie · 02/10/2022 17:10

I guess £2k - not that I'd want to spend that but I'd expect it to be that much'

LaurieFairyCake · 02/10/2022 17:12

I'd also expect about £2k

And I'd be wrong as my mate went on a crappy one week in Greece over the summer and it was £10k!

Tumbleweed101 · 02/10/2022 17:13

A single parent on £19k -we haven't had a holiday as a family for years due to how expensive it is in the school holidays. For an abroad holiday in the sun I could only spend out up to about £500 for everything including flights. Hence why we haven't had a holiday!

IhateJan22 · 02/10/2022 17:15

£2.5k?

Godsavetheking2022 · 02/10/2022 17:16

Also about 2k. We are pretty average and we paid £600 for flights £1000 accommodation and £450 for car hire. So 2k for hol then spends on top of that. That was for 9 nights, family of 4 abroad.

HundredYearsOfSolitude · 02/10/2022 17:21

We went away for 10 nights in August, me,Dh and Ds14.
Just over 5k for all inclusive in Calis, Antalya.

Holidays seem to have gone really expensive.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 02/10/2022 17:28

Our last holiday was during term time and was just under £4k for 2 weeks for 4 of us (our youngest was under 2 so was free, so that was the price for 3 people really). Now that we are paying for 4 of us I'd be prepared to pay up to around £5.5k in term time. Most people I know who go abroad in school holidays spend £8-10k, which I'd struggle to justify even though we earn fairly well.

AriettyHomily · 02/10/2022 17:30

5.7 for two weeks last year, 6.5 for two weeks next year.

gogohmm · 02/10/2022 17:32

£500 per person per week is around the going rate BUT if you are on an average income I wouldn't expect to be able to go every year, and/or I would look into cheaper alternatives like driving to France. We spent under this for the two of us but we weren't in the school holidays

Hoolihan · 02/10/2022 17:32

Probably £1.5k all in - we don't go on package holidays, book everything separately in dribs and drabs so can be hard to keep track! Usually go for camping or airbnb type accommodation in Europe.

TheBirdintheCave · 02/10/2022 17:37

£2k for a week.

I try to keep flights and hotel/apartment stay to around £1000 and then another £1000 for activities and food whilst we're there (we don't do all inclusive as I find organising everything myself to be much cheaper). Currently we're a three person family so my total budget may have to change if we have a second child in the future.

Foldingchair · 02/10/2022 17:54

Up to 3k. Family of 4.

Thatboymum · 02/10/2022 17:58

For just myself so one adult and 3 kids ages 13 7 & 4 i happily pay up to £4K for 10 days in term time at a decent place

DonnaDonna0 · 02/10/2022 18:20

I’ve been looking 7 nights next summer school hols, 2 adults & 1 child all inclusive to a 4star hotel in Canary Islands is looking like 4 to 5 thousand, depending on island and location.

Rayn22 · 02/10/2022 18:21

Most people i know are average salary or just above and around 4K seems to be the norm for two weeks.

Strangerthings4NW · 02/10/2022 18:23

We paid £4K in July for 2 adults and 2 teens, but we go to good hotels. Next year the same holiday is costing £5.2k

SunflowerSmith · 02/10/2022 18:31

I would expect holidays to cost a coupe of grand a week but I wouldn't pay that.

We've got our own caravan on a permanent pitch and pay 2300 for the whole year and use it most weekends plus several weeks in the school holidays.
I couldn't imagine spending that and only having one week away.

BlancmanegeBunny · 02/10/2022 18:38

This year's summer holiday was 2 weeks in Spain, 3 bedroomed villa with private pool, car hire, flights, food and incidental costs £2800 for 2 adults and two teens.

I've already booked flights for Spain next July (£530) and an apartment for two weeks (£850) which is half the price of the same villa we had this year.

We really enjoy our family holidays and budget for them but are cutting back on costs this year. We don't spend much while we are away, I cook and we take picnics when we go out.

Total cost for next summers trip should be around £2000

Buzzinwithbez · 02/10/2022 18:38

I would say about 1200 for a week abroad, but we have 4 teenagers (one not our own but I would expect to take them and to pay) and I'd be way off the actual cost, so haven't been anywhere.

We have done lots of camping in this country instead.

I need someone like you to show me how to find a holiday.

erikbloodaxe · 02/10/2022 19:07

Are you all able to afford a holiday next year AND heat your home as usual this winter?

Yes because I'm saving up for it now, also the DD for gas and electricity has been reduced as I'm in credit.

TightDiamondShoes · 02/10/2022 19:14

I’m a single mum on a below average salary. I’m paying £3.5k for 2 weeks AI for the 3 of us next summer.

Electricity is currently £100/month (no gas) at current rates and not including the £66 bung.

I think we eat very well, but the last supermarket sweep I did was 4 weeks ago and I spent £200. Have probably topped up another £200 incl. a bit of forward planning.
