If you are an average household with an average household income how much would you happily pay for a week or two in the sun in the summer?

Just that really.

We've just got back from a week in France. There are 5 of us and we went with another family of 6 so were able to split the cost of the accommodation. We rented a huge 6 bedroom house (capacity for up to 15 people) with a large pool and we drove/ used the car ferry. Each family spent about 2K in total including fuel, ferry and food. It's definitely doable but we avoid package holidays as they seem to be more pricey!

You need to work out your entire budget for everything over a year and see if any changes can be made.

Our household with zero mortgage or childcare costs spent 27k last year to the Penny as we pay for everything on cards. It’s irrelevant what others spend because even someone on the exact wage with the exact same number of children will have deviations.

There are the big bills, housing, power, food and transport but the other stuff is where adjustments may be able to be made. Or maybe there is zero flexibility, everything is on bare essentials.

We have a combined annual income of £125k. Big mortgage and live in London, 2 x Primary age kids.

If it was a nice all inclusive in Europe, £4k a week sounds fair. I'd rather closer to £3k. Last year we paid £2.5k for 6 nights in Spain, full board but not AI.

I'd be happy to pay about £1,000 for a week but I've never managed to achieve that which is probably why we havn't been abroad for almost 10 years when we went with my parents and they paid.

We're in this sort of income bracket. Pre COVID we'd pay around £1800-2500 for a week somewhere on the Med - flights, self catering villa or large apartment with pool for a week in school holidays for two adults and two older children.

Next year I think it will come out nearer to £4k for the same kind of holiday.

I got 2 weeks all inclusive in a 5* resort in Turkey for 4 (one child classed as adult) next may for 3100 (including luggage, flight meals and insurance). Priced it up with another company and it was 4600!!! Looked at booking last year whilst I was out there and prices were 2000 each!!! But around 3k for 4 of us (same length and holiday type etc) is what I’d expect to pay I think.
