Electric blanket - worth it?

Saw on tv this morning that an electric blanket only costs 5p an hour which saves on heating.

Does anyone use one and can recommend a good one? When using do you feel you can live without the heating on?

This thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best electric blanket page with loads of great options you can buy now that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Smile

I write on so many threads to people moaning about being cold in bed because they can't afford to have the heating on through the night, to get an electric blanket. Everyone always just ignores me. They cost pennies to run and they are so much better than they used to be. You xan even wash the. I even have a couple for the settee. I end up switching them off they get so warm.

We’ve always had electric blankets. They’re amazing. Heat the bed then turn off when you get in or leave on low all night. Get dual controlled if your a cold mortal but your other half likes it cool…

Mine has a footboost as well.

I have an electric blanket for my bed - so nice getting into a warm bed. It's just a cheap one but my dream one would have a timer and work with Alexa.

I also have an electric throw blanket on the couch - so warm. I couldn't do without them.

Smart plugs <wise nod>

I used to be able to turn mine on as I left work after a night shift - life changing 😆

DH and ChampagneCat have a heated throw on the sofa as well. I often find the pair of them enveloped in it with a dreamy look on their faces. It has 100% made a difference to DH's "thermostat finger" 😉

I misread that as “food” boost! Awesome idea, midnight snacks at the touch of a button 🤣

Oh, yes, I'd definitely be buying that if it existed. Maybe it's just as well it doesn't! 😉

An electric blanket is oh so worth it. My previous one had broken so not had one for a while, new one arrived this week and I don't know how I managed without it. Love going into a toasty bed. I've also just bought a Dreamland fluffy throw, only needed to use it once but it's going to make such a difference in the winter and can see it will save me putting on the heating.

Can't remember what brand ours is, it's a big standard one from Argos. It's fab! One with a pre heat setting is good. Ours doesn't have dual controls but whenever we end up replacing it, I think I'd get that next time.

I have one and I truly love it. It's like getting into a nice warm bath when you get in bed!!!!

Melrose agree especially for children.

Charities should start fundraising for them.
No need for children to be freezing and electronic blankets are luxury
