Mine is Shell,

Electric 35p pKwh & standing charge 38.9p
Gas 10p pKwh & standing charge 28.5p

I'm curious to see how this compares

Btw for anyone on Shell Energy, you also get the 3% discount at Shell petrol stations with their fuel app - don’t miss out!

British Gas
Electric 33.6 pkwh 43 SC
Gas 10.3 pkwh 23 SC

i don't understand how they all get away with this.

I'm with British Gas

Prices are :

Gas - 11.2 p unit, 33.5p standing charge
Elec - 38.8pm unit, 54p standing charge.

I've seen about 5 different rates for British Gas.

I'm being told by them there is no other cheaper option to move to with BG.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 10:50

@CoastalWave is that a fix or the SVR?
If its the SVR then it's likely they haven't updated the details for the price guarantee prices

Under the price guarantee your prices will really be around:

Electricity - 34p/kwh and 46p s/c
Gas - 10.3p/kwh and 28p s/c

Isn’t the cap subject to regional variations & that’s why BG is quoting different unit & sc prices?

This is true, unit prices are slightly different regionally, but the government price cap may mean they end up more similar than usual/the same.

Our fix doesn't end until the 6th, then we will be on SVR at the price cap level. With the £400 discount we may actually pay slightly less per month over winter than last year.

Northumberlandlass · 01/10/2022 11:05

British Gas here too

Electricity - 32.2 Kwh / 49.9 SC
Gas - 10.1 Kwh / 28.4 SC

OddBoots · 01/10/2022 11:07

SRV with Direct Debit on EonNext - this looks far too high.

Apparently a lotbof apps haven't updated yet so not showing the new gov price cap.

Yes, I imagine a lot of them are showing what it would have been if the cap hadn't been fixed.

@MinervaTerrathorn I'd give it a few days to sort itself out, they can only actually charge you the capoed rates. Doesn't matter if the tariff shows incorrectly on your App.

We’re with Shell

Elec 28.46p per kilowatt, 43.39p standing
Gas 7.48p per kilowatt, 27.22p standing

Shell app is offering me a switch to a tariff called ‘energy price guarantee direct debit ebill’ which is more expensive on every point, so no thanks

How much longer is your current fix?

the price Cap rates (vat inclusive!) are

gas 10.3 (28p per day)
electricity 34 (46p per day)

so if your current fix runs out soon & the offer is less than the cap, you should think carefully before not taking the new deal

Namechanger1002 · 01/10/2022 11:19

I am with British Gas and have a pre payment smart metre.
Gas - standing charge 37.506p
unit rate 10.531p
BG estimate my increase (based on last 12 months usage) will be £177.43

Electricity - standing charge 50.820p
unit rate 32.060p
BG estimate my increase (based on last 12 months usage) will be £192.57

Hopefully electricity won’t be that much as last year we had a tumble dryer but it broke and I never replaced it.

I live in a 4 bed semi detached house and there are 6 of us living here.

If those figures are true I am not panicking as much because my increase will be covered by the fuel payment.

ShoesEverywhere · 01/10/2022 11:36

I fixed last Sept on the advice of Martin Lewis, until March 23

Standing charge: 44.10 pence per day
Unit Rate: 20.94 pence per kWh
Gas Tariff:
Standing charge 31.31 pence per day
Unit rate 5.99 pence per kWh

Snazzysausage · 01/10/2022 11:48

Electricity 33.018
SC 44.125
Gas 10.237
SC 26.841
Octopus,East Midlands.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 11:50

@OddBoots those are probably the prices that were predicted originally for October. Its likely that the app hasn't updated to the new price guarantee prices so the prices quoted will be too high until they are updated.

KenAdams · 01/10/2022 11:52

Shell:

Your Economy 7 electricity rates are changing from 32.300p to 39.360p per kWh for your day rate and 17.526p to 17.868p per kWh for your night rate. Your standing charge per day is changing from 44.84p to 45.85p.

Your gas rates are changing from 7.282p to 10.236p per kWh and your standing charge per day is changing from 27.22p to 28.48p.

British Gas
Electric 33.6 pkwh 43 SC
Gas 10.3 pkwh 23 SC

Is this a fix or standard tariff? I pay the same with BG and mine is July23 fix.

rumbypumby · 01/10/2022 12:09

I dont get this. Why is mine higher even if it says it includes the price cap?

What are your new energy rates today & who are you with?
StrawberryPot · 01/10/2022 12:14

British Gas. Fixed in July to Oct 2023

Electricity
38.59 per kWh
19.81 standing charge

Gas
11.52 per kWh
24.48 standing charge

I went on their website the other day to see if I could get a better deal now the govt has intervened. The only option is to move to their SVR which offers a cheaper standard unit rate but higher standing charge. Their calculations show we'd only be £200 pa better off doing that. Martin Lewis says if you're in a fixed rate don't come out of it at the moment.
Also British Gas emailed me a couple of weeks ago to say I could come out of the fixed rate now if I wanted to, with no exit fee. Which sort of makes me think it's in their interest for me to do that ...?

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 12:14

@rumbypumby although there is a price cap there are still variations across the country as its an average figure that's given so they may differ by a few pence on either side.

For e.g. your gas and electricity price per kw/h is slightly below the price cap but your standing charges are a bit above it.

dementedpixie · 01/10/2022 12:17

@StrawberryPot I think that those on a fixed rate higher than the price guarantee will have their price reduced by up to 17p for electricity and up to 4.2p for gas which will take them closer to the price cap or down to the price cap (not below it though)

Thanks, I'm not worried as it's not going to matter until I get my October bill anyway. I imagine they are having a lot of unnecessary phone calls about rates right now!
