Vinted buyer kept item for 2 weeks, now wants to return.

I sold a item on Vinted - I saw it was Delivered on 15/09.
on 21/09 (a week) the buyer messaged to say there was damage to it and sent me photos of the item with two tears in a seam. I checked the item before packaging it andI am almost positive it wasn’t torn, but because it was essentially brand new I didn’t really ‘inspect’ all the seams and things, I just kind of gave it a visual once over.. so I started to doubt myself and worried that I’ve sent someone something that did have tears in so I said sorry I thought I’d checked it, explained it must have come from the retailer like that and I just wouldn’t have thought to look that closely and said if she sent the item back I would refund..

She requested the refund through vinted and thankfully I checked the T’s & C’s as Vinted advise not to click refund until I’ve actually got it back.

Another week goes by, I message and ask if she’s sent it. She hasn’t.. at this point it’s been mulling over in my head and I read the t&c’s again and Vinted say you can claim a refund for damaged items within 2 days of receiving it.. and she messaged me a week later so I think I was lenient enough.

So I’ve messaged her to say I’m sorry but you’ve had the item over two weeks and haven’t sent it back to me, given Vinted only give 5 days to send items before the sale is cancelled anyway (and the fact she initially asked for it to be sent asap as she needed it quickly.. which meant I ended up paying more postage than she paid..) that I’m not happy to refund now, that Vinted policy was to contact the buyer within two days, she left it a week then left it another week and still hasn’t sent.

So I raised an issue with Vinted and they said they would get back to me in 48 hours.
well the buyer has messaged to say she’s sending it back today, as advised by Vinted.. but vinted are still reviewing the issue on my end so I said please don’t send it back yet as it’s still being resolved. She’s said she is sending it back no questions asked.

I’ve advised her to out a return label on it as I haven’t accept that in refunding her until Vinted have reviewed the issue and I’ll be refusing the parcel at the door to go back to her until it’s resolved.

She also claimed she didn’t have it for a week before she contacted me.. but tracking shows when it was delivered.

Am I right in being a little bit suspicious that she’s trying to send this broken item back before Vinted can resolve the issue? I feel like she may have worn it, torn it, and now she’s trying her luck getting her money back but knows that because she’s left it two weeks Vinted probably won’t accept the refund so she’s trying to send it back to me and force a refund as she will no longer have the item?

Sorry for the long post😅

I’m no expert as I haven’t sold on Vinted, only bought but I’m sure the buyer only has a couple of days to report any issues? If nothings reported then Vinted will automatically mark it as ‘everything is ok’ and funds are released. After that no refund can be claimed?

I’d think she’s used it and now wants to return especially as she needed it so quickly. There’s some right CF’s about. I have bags and bags of baby clothes to sell and this sort of thing puts me off. So much hassle for a few quid and sellers aren’t protected as much as buyers 😞

What a faff and would now make me think twice about using Vinted tbh

How much was the item?

Isaidnoalready · 29/09/2022 10:19

Do you know their Instagram? I think they have wore it

WhatAPoolava · 29/09/2022 12:53

It was £10 so not a lot of money but I can’t re-sell it if it torn, or at least I cant expect that amount for a damaged item so I’m really annoyed at the whole situation.

I’m really hoping Vinted resolve it today, release the funds and if she’s sent the item back then more fool her..

@Winceybincey You’re right, Vinted only give two days to claim after delivery.

I unfortunately didn’t read this until after I initially agreed to refund if she sent it back, then I read about the two days, checked the delivery and was a bit annoyed I had been too soft.. and now she’s given it a further week before sending has just made me even more annoyed so I’m hoping Vinted go by their own policies and don’t refund!

She never clicked to say she received the item when it was delivered, when buyers don’t do this the funds get held for something like 25-30 days? As it said if she didn’t click to say it was delivered then they release the funds 11th October! Long time to wait for the money after selling something. I give up with Vinted 😂

They normally release the funds only a few days after delivered even if buyer hasn’t clicked “Everything is OK” unless it is sent via Royal Mail or something where the tracking doesn’t automatically update through to Vinted.

Ahh, I wondered why the still had the funds after so long. Most things I’ve bought have been delivered by Evri and it updates automatically on Vinted as delivered. I’ve had a notification with a couple of items asking me if it’s been delivered and if so mark it as delivered. I didn’t realise the sellers don’t get the funds for so long in that scenario, I’ll make sure I do it in future.

Vinted should follow their own polices regardless. You can just say she’s taken too long to send it back and now you’re unwilling to refund as you don’t know what’s happened to the item in that time.

WhatAPoolava · 30/09/2022 12:56

That’s what I’m trying to do, she’s sent it yesterday for return so I’ve put a note on the door to not leave any parcels in our garden and to take them back if we don’t answer 😂😂 Vinted still haven’t resolved 🥲

No help as haven’t sold on Vinted but all I keep hearing is horror stories! I will be sticking to eBay from now on!

amiold · 01/05/2023 21:57

Did you get sorted with this?

I've had exactly the same... two tears in the seam that I'm sure weren't there. Buyer had clicked everything was ok so Vinted said it's too late to arrange a refund and to arrange it ourselves... outside of Vinted which I'm not happy about. Buyer wants me to cover postage, again not happy about.

I'm sure the holes weren't there when I photoed and when I packaged. If they're there now the buyer has done it trying the dress on. Dress sold for £5... by time I pay £3 postage I'm gonna be down not up.

Sandcastles24 · 01/05/2023 22:22

I am not saying it is the case here and the seller isn't a CF but it is possible if it was to a collection point.

i have bought a couple of items on vinted were they have been sent to a collection point. it has said delivered before they ahd arrived. I have gone to collect items only for them not to be their yet. Both turned up after a few days but they would have also been passed this 2 day deadline before I had the items

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 01/05/2023 22:23

I use ebay and make it clear i dont accept returns for that reason.

HDready · 01/05/2023 22:25

@amiold If they clicked that everything was ok then that’s the end of it. You have no obligation to refund them. Just ignore them. Lesson learnt for them - don’t click everything is ok until you are satisfied that it actually is ok!

amiold · 02/05/2023 07:03

I know it's just they're going to leave me bad feedback aren't they.

Theos · 02/05/2023 07:06

Yes WHAT HAPPENED @WhatAPoolava
