Anyone else?

Still holding out but I am wearing my new Oodie.

userxx · 26/09/2022 19:49

Fired it up for 20 mins before as it's been raining and the house felt a bit damp, it's heated up the walls so it's switched off now.

Surtsey · 26/09/2022 19:51

We're on the western edge of E Anglia, and it can get surprisingly cold here.

I was having my windows painted today, so nearly every window in the house has been open all day. When they were finally dry enough to close them the sitting room was 13.5 degrees so I cracked and put the heating on. Will turn it off when it reaches 15 degrees in there and hide out in the slightly warmer kitchen with a throw.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 26/09/2022 19:52

Ours is set to 17 and hasn't come on yet. We have big throws, blankets, heated mattress covers. I warmed up hot water bottles at the weekend and we've got hot drinks. It's not too bad so far. We have a lot of building work currently ongoing so there are a lot of holes around letting drafts through. Little girl cat is acting as my hot water bottle lately too.

Soubriquet · 26/09/2022 19:53

I would…but we have no kerosene still.

ObjectionSustained · 26/09/2022 19:54

Yes, mines on too. My dad (lives with me) put it on when he got up this morning at 6; I've put it on about an hour ago again for when DD got out of the bath.

My house is really old, with high ceilings, so it feels cold in here until there's some warm air circulating.

good luck with your bills if you cant even cope with 12 degrees

12 degrees - indoors?

NotLovingWFH · 26/09/2022 19:55

No way am I putting mine in till October half term. Big jumpers, oodie style hoodies and dressing gowns are keeping us warm enough at the moment and we never ever have heating in at night in any case.

This present last Xmas is amazingly warm zipper I hate belts. I wear it over my clothes when I get cold. Bought another one in the sale. They've sold out of other colours grey but restock often.

DinaofCloud9 · 26/09/2022 19:58

No not here but I did get my blanket out last night.

Surtsey · 26/09/2022 19:58

My heating came on for a grand total of 10 minutes, enough to warm all the radiators up. Then it clicked off again. I've turned the thermostat back to 16 so it's unlikely to come on again by itself. We don't like having it on at night anyway.

Devo1818 · 26/09/2022 19:58

Soooooo tempted but went for a jumper and blanket instead

lljkk · 26/09/2022 20:00

Still 18 in the house. We have a houseguest from hot place, though, so am keeping more eye than usual on temps to keep guest comfy.

Cocokitty · 26/09/2022 20:36

No, but I don't normally think about what season it is. If it is cold, or I have washing to dry then it gets put on.
I am now trying to be more mindful as I really dislike being cold. If I wasn't trying I'd probably have it on.
I'm actually feeling quite down about the whole energy price rise. I can afford it. But I don't want to pay it. So I'll suffer for it. But for others who can't afford it so have had choice taken away... fucking dreadful.
I'd really like to not be wandering around the house in the dark too. I didn't realise how badly placed my light switches were.

Mylittlesandwich · 26/09/2022 20:49

We're really going to struggle with the bills this winter and it'll get a lot colder than this so no. No heating on yet. We have lots of blankets and fleece jumpers. We won't freeze.

NC7778 · 26/09/2022 20:51

Me too!

MumBoot2022 · 26/09/2022 20:58

Been having the electric blanket on to warm the bed for about a week now, but finally crumbled and put the heating on for 30 mins today… oooh, it was blissful!! Fluffy pjs and furry slippers are on in the evenings too!
Definitely an Autumnal nip in the air, and getting noticeably darker earlier now😯

AnyFucker · 26/09/2022 21:06

It’s 16 deg in my house this evening. Haven’t turned the heating on but feeling fairly chilly even wrapped in a blanket and cosy loungewear.

I am not going to torture myself much longer. Hot water bottle for bed tonight and if it feels cold and damp in the morning when I get up for work at 6am the heating is going on. It only needs half an hour at this time of year

Rosewaterblossom · 26/09/2022 21:07

It was cold this morning but soon warmed up during the day. This evening it's perfectly warm with a blanket over my legs. I lived for a few years with an inefficient boiler so the radiators were always luke warm when you put them until I could afford a new boiler (old one died)

My tolerance for cold in the house is doing me favours now the bills are crazy. 12 degrees is NOT a cold temperature to put the heating on at all. Even if you could afford it! Unless you are of a vulnerable category.

Surtsey · 26/09/2022 21:49

Unfortunately, under 16 degrees is below what my joints can take these days. Everything stiffens up in the cold and I can barely move.

No but tbf newish house ( 14 years ish) and its quite comfortable , thermostat set at 18 so its stayed above that

mumofthemonsters808 · 26/09/2022 22:08

No holding out, I was tempted yesterday but did not crack I put my thick hoody on and it does not feel as cold today. Going to try and get to November but see how it pans out.

HappyPeach · 26/09/2022 22:15

I won't be having any heating this year at all, so no, mine's not on. I can feel a nip in the air and I'm trying to adjust to it.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 26/09/2022 22:33

Northernsoullover · 26/09/2022 18:59

I want to but I'm not going to. I don't know how I will afford it.

I wanted to today too, I was cold at home, but it seemed silly when I was going out at 5, so I didn't. I put my coat on to go out though, but it was warmer outside! I picked my god daughter up from university (5 miles away from my house) & the campus was bathed in sunshine, it was beautiful and warm!

I took GD to her house (15 miles) & it was getting dark, it was grey clouds, damp & chilly!

got home, left my coat on for a bit, got too warm, so took it off & got cold, put a heavy cardi on, now I'm too hot, will go to bed soon.. I always have bedroom windows open, but bed is cosy!!

it's no bloody wonder we all get colds this time of year!!

work out how much it's going to cost per half hour and use the half hours wisely! You need to not let the house get too damp! If you have it on roughly half as much time as you did last year, the cost should be about the same.

take care & make sure you have all the benefits/grants you're entitled to.
