What is this I’ve found on my daughters head? Is it a tick?

My daughter, 5, has had a temperature of 40 all night. Been in with me, sleeping in her knickers to keep her cool. Had some calpol.

This morning I’ve woken up to take her temperature and found what I think is a tick but I’m not sure?

I’ve pulled it out - and thrown it away - but it was alive when I pulled it out. Should I get my daughter checked over by a GP?

Lyme disease is terrible, life ruining. Well done for spotting it and acting quickly

ChocHotolate · 26/09/2022 13:06

Fever and leg pain in a child needs to be seen in A&E, the tic may or may not be a red herring. But you have 100% done the right thing (I'm 20yrs as an A&E nurse)

frozenorangejuice · 26/09/2022 13:12

Definitely looks like a tick to me. My little boy had a bullseye mark on his foot a few weeks ago and we had been to a local deer park. No sign of the tick but the bullseye ring around the bite was enough for him to be prescribed a 21 day course of amoxicillin. Good luck OP!

GPs always do, and the hospitals always roll their eyes at them.

This is not helpful

CottonSock · 26/09/2022 13:30

Well done for noticing the tick. I Hope you get sorted soon

Frazzled2207 · 26/09/2022 13:33

Pleased you are in a&e. Right thing to do.

makinganavalon · 26/09/2022 13:36

So glad you are in a&e- don't let them fob you off- Lyme is just beyond awful if not treated.
Please let us know the outcome x

mamatoTails · 26/09/2022 13:37

Hope she gets treated quickly xx

Justhereforaibu1 · 26/09/2022 13:38

Hope she turns a corner for the better soon

skedaddler · 26/09/2022 13:50

There have been a lot more ticks this year than usual, late in the year though isn't it - well done for spotting it OP

Theonlyoneiknow · 26/09/2022 13:50

Good spot OP and well done for getting it out. Are you in a Lyme 'hot spot' area? My friend contracted Lyme disease in the Highlands and her walking difficulties came on 10 days after she had been bitten (she was unaware she had been bitten - tick had fed and dropped off and she had no bulls eye rash). Her symptom was difficulty walking/gait.

My DD got a tick bite in the school playground last year, they are horrible buggers. That one was easily spotted, some of them are the size of a freckle.

FayeGovan · 26/09/2022 13:52

You did the right thing @Alwayswaiting

littlepeas · 26/09/2022 13:53

I recently had a rash that looked like I had been bitten by a tick and it was taken very seriously. I hope you are seen soon op and that your dd is ok.

Alwayswaiting · 26/09/2022 13:58

Hi all - still in a&e she’s had an X-ray for the hip, query septic arthritis and now awaiting blood tests and results.

they also said her tonsils look large.

yes - we’re South Downs area which is apparently a tick hot spot.

but her temps going up again - she’s just not right bless her

Oh my goodness. Fingers crossed they get her sorted soon. So scary.

greenacrylicpaint · 26/09/2022 14:03

fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

ladydimitrescu · 26/09/2022 14:04

Oh gosh bless her. That tick could have been in there for some time as it's very big, I hope she is ok x

kirinm · 26/09/2022 14:09

Gosh, I hope she is okay and starts to feel better soon, OP.

PinkButtercups · 26/09/2022 14:13

Oh bless her, hope she is on the mend soon!

Workinghardeveryday · 26/09/2022 14:13

Hope she is okay op x

stayathomegardener · 26/09/2022 14:17

Not sure if anyone has flagged it up but when you get home find the tick as they can be tested for Lyme disease. Don't touch it with bare hands.

Dolphinnoises · 26/09/2022 14:22

@Alwayswaiting ask if they’ve considered tick-borne encephalitis. It’s exceptionally unlikely in the U.K. but one case was recorded there a couple of years ago. Here in Central Europe we are immunised against it - it’s a form of meningitis

Hotpinkangel19 · 26/09/2022 14:24

Hope she's okay. How scary.
