What is this I’ve found on my daughters head? Is it a tick?

My daughter, 5, has had a temperature of 40 all night. Been in with me, sleeping in her knickers to keep her cool. Had some calpol.

This morning I’ve woken up to take her temperature and found what I think is a tick but I’m not sure?

I’ve pulled it out - and thrown it away - but it was alive when I pulled it out. Should I get my daughter checked over by a GP?

There's a vaccination for that though isn't there, unlike Lymes?

Yes, it's multiple injections over several years before you're covered.

Fladdermus · 26/09/2022 17:00

Name change fail there.

Gosh What a worry for you
You're in the right place and it sounds like they're investigating her thoroughly
I do hope DD feels better very soon

OlderParents · 26/09/2022 17:08

Poor thing! I will be watching for updates.

Corrosive · 26/09/2022 17:12

I think only a few percent of ticks carry Lyme disease. So hopefully ok

BigWoollyJumpers · 26/09/2022 17:13

The specialist on that show said ALL tick bites should be treated with antibiotics

Well that's bonkers, I would be on antibiotics all summer. I've have four attached ones this year, and a few crawlers in the house, but am lucky because I react to them really quickly, my skin goes red when they bite, so I notice and can remove them. My garden is full of them 😥

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/09/2022 17:16

Hope all is ok OP

gatehouseoffleet · 26/09/2022 17:29

My garden is full of them 😥

Oh goodness I'd have to move :(

Bunnyfluffles · 26/09/2022 17:32

I'm sorry to post here, but this thread has got me concerned! Brushed a similar thing out of my hair in July. Should I see the GP?
I hope your dd will be fine poor lamb.

hosyyy · 26/09/2022 17:39

Hope your daughter is okay! That's wild, i would never have known about this either! x

TheClogLady · 26/09/2022 17:40

You don’t have a rash or a high temp and it wasn’t burrowed into your skin so you are likely fine Bunny

Ticks are quite hard to get off when they bite so if one just fell out of your hair, lucky escape!

sparklecement · 26/09/2022 17:52

Such a worry but glad hospital is doing all the checks OP.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 26/09/2022 18:04

How worrying! Hope she feels better soon.

TequilaNights · 26/09/2022 18:19

Hope they get to the cause and she is feeling better soon

FingersofFish · 26/09/2022 18:20

Hope she gets sorted. My oldest has had 2 tick bites and both times was sent straight to A&e by GP. For the second they prescribed antibiotics straight away so I think this might be the policy now.

Alwayswaiting · 26/09/2022 18:24

So we’ve been at a&e all day; my husband has come to relieve me. The doctors put a cannula in to take blood. Unfortunately by the time the sample got to testing the blood had clotted?

The cannula was then blocked and they’ve cleared it and taken more blood. We’re waiting for the results of this set of blood tests still.

The staff are trying their best they’re very busy and there are lots of babies with chesty issues.

My daughters gait isn’t quite right and the doctor agreed. So we’re still here - it’s been a long day and my dd is exhausted and has been asleep on a chair for the last hour. Hopefully we’ll get the results soon.

Been thinking of you today, let's hope the test results give a clear indication of what needs to happen next and that it gets done quickly and smoothly. Get well soon, AlwaysJnr.

LadyEloise1 · 26/09/2022 18:28

Poor little thing. A&E is grueling for adults, never mind an ill child.
Fingers crossed she's sorted soon.

ArabellaScott · 26/09/2022 18:32

Oh, my word, that's an ordeal for all of you. Hope you get all sorted very soon. xxx

The sooner we can frontline our children for nits, ticks and worms the better!

hope she’s sorted soon.
