We don't. Have maybe ....10 a year maximum.

Not that we don't enjoy them, we just don't do them regularly.

Most people I know still so the Sunday Roast thing. And my SIL will often have a mid week one too.

More or less - we use the air fryer to cook it nowadays.

QuietYou · 26/09/2022 12:24

EspeciallyDivided perhaps the infrequency is why I love them. My parents hardly ever cooked one so it was a big treat at my Grandparents.

ParentallyUnprepared · 26/09/2022 13:02

I rarely do a full roast as I'm not a massive fan.

My son will have a mini roast, but with sausages if I can't be bothered with anything more elaborate.

Filleto · 26/09/2022 13:09

Some version of a roast most weeks, varying from just meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and a couple of steamed veg to a full roast which also has stuffing and roast parsnips and mashed swede and cheesy leeks…

If not a roast we sometimes have cottage pie or pie or toad in the hole.

Interesting how some pp have said that cutting down on meat has meant fewer roasts as when we have a Big Roast it’s more about the sides than the meat and the meat portion ends up quite small.

No, once every few months, if that. I’d be so bored of them if we ate the same thing every Sunday. I like them but hate all the oil and all the faff with timings. We always make everything though. One of my DC is dairy free so I have to make the yorkshires.

We only have chicken as the DC don’t really like anything else.

cookiecreammmpie · 26/09/2022 13:23

We have them about twice a week. Usually on a Sunday but not always, and then one midweek. It's one of the only meals all the kids enjoy.

Zippedydoo123 · 26/09/2022 13:31

Not keen at all so never at home. Unless Xmas Day.

AffIt · 26/09/2022 13:35

Bizarrely, we had one yesterday, for the first time this year (although we're veggie, so it was one of the Quorn freezer things - quite nice, though, with vegetables / Yorkies / gravy).

Definitely not a regular thing - maybe a couple of times a year at most. As a PP said, though, we're Scottish, and I don't think it's such a big thing up here?

What do the veggies on here have? I generally have a Linda McCartney country pie or veggies sausages. I love a nut roast though if anyone has any good recipes where I could freeze the leftovers as its only me eating it. Or even a shop bought but roast recommendation!

DH is veggie but not a big fan of the quorn type things. I sometimes make him a veggie tart or veggie wellington (almost always containing mushrooms of some sort). Or I will make a roasted stuffed butternut squash for him. (stuffed usually with rice, peppers, cashews or pinenuts and raisins) Alot of the time though he just wants extras of the vegetables plus loads of vegetarian gravy.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 26/09/2022 14:30

Oh! as for shop bought- a few years back we had the M&S christmas range nut roast and it was really good. Plus Morrisons (and other supermarkets I am sure) do a frozen little nut roast called Clive's. Those are good as well IMO.

No we never have them, I don’t like roasts - seems very old fashioned to have one every week

Crunchymum · 26/09/2022 14:34

Easter and Christmas I always do the full shebang.

We have a variation of a roast every now and then (roast chicken, veg and mash or lamb neck fillet, veg and minted new potatoes) but no we don't have weekly or even a monthly "roast".

sunshineflowerdaisy · 26/09/2022 14:34

Oooh yes. One of our favourite meals especially with a lovely pudding. Don't have them during the summer though. And not necessarily every single Sunday either.

DreamingofItaly2023 · 26/09/2022 08:03

No because DS is an unusual child in not liking roast dinner. I do find the thought of a weekly roast at least in autumn and winter very comforting but I’m not cooking one unless we all eat it.

Why not? I often used to cook things not everyone would eat, they can just have beans on toast/soup/sandwich. I absolutely love roasts and have one most autumn and winter weekends if we are at home.

pimlicoanna · 26/09/2022 14:36

Nope. An annual one on Christmas Day

Crikeyalmighty · 26/09/2022 14:42

Most Sundays , but not all - nearly always a free range chicken , which I then use for a stir fry next day but rarely do this in June, July and August.

TheMoops · 26/09/2022 14:43

Yes! It's my favourite meal of the week.

If we can't fit it in on a Sunday then I'll do one on a Monday evening instead.

Cameleongirl · 26/09/2022 14:47

We usually have a roast chicken once a week in the colder months, because it’s such low fuss when one of us is WFH.

Put it in the oven late afternoon surrounded by plenty of veg and carry on working. Steam any other veg and make gravy when it’s nearly finished.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 26/09/2022 14:53

No - I can’t remember the last time we had one. I do roast potatoes as part of a meal sometimes though.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 26/09/2022 14:53

Through autumn and winter, most weeks, yes. Having one tonight because I couldn’t be bothered yesterday.

FanFckingTastic · 26/09/2022 14:55

Yes! We have one every Sunday (and if it's not a full on roast because we are out it will be something like Stew and dumplings or another slow cooker classic) Sunday dinner is brilliant and there's always leftovers of some sort for Monday tea - a bit of left over meat to go with a crispy jacket potato or veg to go in a bubble & squeak. Om nom nom!

Cwcwbird · 26/09/2022 15:13

Thank you OrangePumpkinLobelia!

DreamingofItaly2023 · 26/09/2022 15:28

There is only the three of us save and a roast is a bigger effort than most meals I do (most take between 30-40 mins) and generates more washing up. I just don’t feel like doing it for two especially when I will have to make a separate meal for DS. I do make them when guests come though and in two weeks BIL is moving in for a few months so will probably do them more Smile

mondaytosunday · 26/09/2022 15:30

My husband used to cook one every week on Sunday. After he passed away I did it now and then. Certainly no more than once a month or so .
