We don't. Have maybe ....10 a year maximum.

Not that we don't enjoy them, we just don't do them regularly.

Most people I know still so the Sunday Roast thing. And my SIL will often have a mid week one too.

Yes most weeks. Ultra traditional in our house - everything is in the oven on a timer so we can eat Sunday lunch after church.

It was the one thing we always had as a constant in my dysfunctional family growing up. When my mum stopped doing it in our teenage years it seemed like everything fell apart (was a symptom not a cause) so I want to keep Sunday lunch as a special time even if we were to change the menu.

We do them every other week or so during the the winter. In the summer they're much less frequent as it's just too hot. We'll occasionally have roast chicken mid week, too.

I find them easy to cook and pretty low effort so they're ideal mid week as I work from home so once the minimal prep is done it's just a case of popping downstairs to stick different components in the oven every so often. They're also a guaranteed crowd pleaser in this house and DH and I enjoy cooking so a Sunday afternoon cooking a roast doesn't feel like a chore to us.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 26/09/2022 09:16

Nobody in the house really likes roasts any more due to restricting meat/carbs etc.

We go for a big walk on Sunday mornings and either eat brunch while out, or go 'foraging' around a market or specialty stores and bring something interesting home to eat.

mast0650 · 26/09/2022 09:16

we'll have pie, or sausages, and the things we have with it varies week on week too

A pie or sausages is not a roast, surely?
It's also not a roast if you don't have roast potatoes, I reckon.

confusedofengland · 26/09/2022 09:17

In the summer we don't. In the winter, we have a special dinner every Sunday, but it's not always a roast, maybe 1 in 3 weeks. Other times it will be toad in the hole or similar, with the roast, veg, cauliflower/broccoli cheese & gravy.

Flower1976 · 26/09/2022 09:17

Yes most weeks in autumn, winter and spring. We all love a roast and look forward to it.

SueGray · 26/09/2022 09:19

Yes, we have a roast most weekends. Dh cooks it usually and it’s always a success with the kids. We use the leftover meat for a meal in the week and also for sandwiches.

gretr · 26/09/2022 09:19

No, only really do it at Christmas and occasionally Easter.

Smallorangecat · 26/09/2022 09:20

No, because DC don’t really like roast meats and it’s a lot of time, money and effort for something they don’t really like.

mast0650 · 26/09/2022 09:20

We never have a roast for Sunday lunch in the way my mum used to do, every week, unless perhaps we have guests (pretty rare). I don't really want to have a big cooked dinner in the middle of the day normally.

In the winter I guess I might do a simple roast chicken, roast potatoes, basic gravy and a couple of other veg for dinner 1-2 times a month. It's more likely to be a Sat or Sun dinner but could also be mid-week if I am working at home. It's actually a pretty easy meal, provided I'm at home early enough to get stuff in the oven.

Autumn101 · 26/09/2022 09:20

Most weeks in winter, DH loves cooking them and the DC love a roast so it always feels good to get a big dinner in them ahead of the week! We tend to eat brunch on a Sunday then the roast at 5/6pm

He does a variety of veg sides depending on which meat so it’s not the same every week. Yesterday we had giant flat Yorkshire’s to make a roast beef wrap, was amazing!

mast0650 · 26/09/2022 09:22

I do a Sunday roast probably every other week, and on the in between weeks do something of a similar vein eg beef stew and mash or last night we had curried root veg and lentil stew.

How is "curried root veg and lentil stew" even remotely in a similar vein to a roast ?? What kind of meals would you consider NOT to be in a similar vein to a roast?

QuietYou · 26/09/2022 09:25

Often but not weekly.
Given the choice I prefer to cook one mid week rather than Sunday as I find it doesn't intrude on my day as much because do find them a faff to prepare and cook. DH isn't always here mid week though and he loves a roast.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 26/09/2022 09:26

We rarely have one, maybe once a year. DD doesn't like them - I don't find this unusual at all as per a pp, but rather it's not the style of food we like. She equates roast dinner to visiting her grandmother, old lady food. I grew up on them every Sunday and they give me sad Sunday vibes, grey days and Allo, Allo on the TV. Not our thing at all.

caringcarer · 26/09/2022 09:30

Most weeks, but not every week.

Drysner · 26/09/2022 11:00

Every week, I love it and I need my weekly dose of Yorkshire puddings!

QuietYou · 26/09/2022 11:09

That's why I love them! They remind me of happy childhood days when all the family were together round the table laughing and joking. My Grandmas were very different cooks but they both did an amazing roast.

EspeciallyDivided · 26/09/2022 11:45

They give me boring vibes too, harking back to the days when you had to have one every Sunday, week in week out, there was nothing on TV and nowhere open. My parents ditched out of them when I was about 9 thank goodness and its not something I want to restrict my Sundays with. I did love a roast at our grandparents house but that was only once or twice a year due to distance and it was a proper treat because of that.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 26/09/2022 11:48

We do here, every week even through Summer, unless we're on holiday/out for the day etc.

My favourite meal, I'd eat it every day if I could

GrowOneStrawberry · 26/09/2022 11:49

Yes. Maybe twice a week in winter. Once summer.

gogohmm · 26/09/2022 12:05

If I'm home yes but we often are out busy, sometimes we go to the pub for lunch too

gogohmm · 26/09/2022 12:08

Often do a roasted traybake mid week - chops, roast potatoes, roasted leeks, roast carrots then put broccoli in for just the last 15 mins. Takes 45 mins, only one pan for washing up

purplecorkheart · 26/09/2022 12:08

Sometimes during the week might roast a pork loin or small joint. Choice of one veg and potatoes. Normally have leftovers for lunch the next day. However we are reducing or meat intake for health reasons so will probably not be doing as many this year.

Cheeselog · 26/09/2022 12:12

No, we probably have a roast about 5-6 times a year. There’s only two of us so it doesn’t really seem worth it. Only one eats meat as well so even with a small joint it’s a lot of leftovers.

Discovereads · 26/09/2022 12:14

Christmas only. And even then it’s a chicken. Can’t afford to buy a side of beef to roast.
