What action are people taking if you're angry/appalled/anxious about the new mini-budget?

Does anybody else feel that we as a society need to at least voice our concerns and not sit back and suffer and struggle while the rich get richer at our expense?

I am already worried about the next budget if we just let her and her cronies get away with it. She is taking working people for fools.

I've wrote to my MP. Now what?!

Not sure what you can do, apart from writing to your MP. Go out on the street and protest?Tbh, I don't think the government would really care about this if you did. Truss has already said that she is quite happy to be unpopular. She is very much trying to create a narrative about her being willing to take difficult and courageous decisions for the long term benefit of the country, rather than giving a bung to her rich mates.

My Tory MP won't reply even if I write to her. Or at least, she hasn't bothered to reply in the past.

I don't know what we can do tbh, other than doing what we can to help the vulnerable people who will suffer as a result of these Tory policies while waiting for a general election.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 25/09/2022 11:30

Donating to your local foodbank might be a good start.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/09/2022 11:33

I'm writing to my Mp. Thus far I have concerns about the budget, shorting and why they are refusing to answer Emily Thornberrys questions on foreign office spends whilst she was in charge. I would especially like to know what was in the Norwich City football shop that was essential for that department. I feel that Liz Truss should have a good handle on that given that not only was she in charge at the time but is also a fan of the club.
I would also like to know why the cabinet members/ ex cabinet members are avoiding select committees.
I would very much like to hear their thoughts on the way the party they are part of is conducting itself.

I'm not holding my breath on a reply though.

I also intend to use everything in my power to remind people of the last few years when we are given the chance to vote in an election.

I'm happy to keep my anger stoked about the destruction this government is bringing on the country.

ProfYaffle · 25/09/2022 11:35

I've been to an Enough is Enough rally, will be going to a second one on 1st October. Apart from anything else, it was really heartening to be among like minded people, felt very uplifting.

Mumoblue · 25/09/2022 11:42

I do hope more people start protesting and making their voices heard. I’m not in a position to do much.
Honestly all this budget has done is make me redouble my efforts to save to move back to Scotland and hope for independence.

I just can’t afford to live where I do for much longer, and this certainly isn’t going to help, what with the Tories seemingly stuffing their pockets with all they can.

Honestly I think this just lets the Government off the hook. Maybe if everyone STOPS donating to food banks then they'll have to listen.

Maybe.

Or maybe people will just go hungry.

I understand your point and you might be right, but I am not convinced that this government would care if we did all stop donating. They would probably just think that the lack of food is a good incentive for people to work harder, or something.

Desmorelda · 25/09/2022 11:51

Re food banks. Funny how tory MPs have managed to put a positive spin on food banks. Even turning it into an election winner because Labour didn't have enough of them when in power.

Yep I'll be going to an Enough is Enough protest on their national day of action next Saturday, I was already planning to but this has made me want to go even more, even though train strikes are going to make it tricky for me to get into the city!

I think they have doubled the amount of protests they have planned in response to the budget.

icelolly12 · 25/09/2022 12:01

Thank you I'm looking up the 'Enough is Enough' protests now.

I'm honestly blown away, and not in a good way by this mini budget. From lifting the cap on bankers bonuses (why are bankers bonuses even a point of consideration when people are going hungry?!) to boosting income for top earners to things like removing the sugar tax on soft drinks when we are an obese nation and need taxes to actually pay for stuff.. none of it makes any sense!

And the NI reversal increase won't do much either, okay so I'll have an extra 30 quid a month, but that's not going to go far with the plummeting pound making everything imported more expensive. Also what about when I get old and need care? I just hope I have enough to go to Switzerland for a lethal injection at that point as the NHS probably won't even exist never mind any funded care.

Absolutely complain to your MP List of MPs

Snailsaresweet · 25/09/2022 12:03

Donating more to my local foodbank and making more of an effort to shop locally as I really fear for our small independent shops and cafes. Supporting my local campaign to get rid of useless, off on long-term "sick leave" Tory MP. Haven't considered an Enough is Enough rally, but probably should.

Does anybody want to share a template for people to write to their MP to save people time?

I have to protest. I'm benefiting from these useless Tory policies and I didn't want them. I want a more equal society and better healthcare for all.

Yes me too. Completely agree.

Yes I'm also going to benefit but the growing inequality infuriates me.

icelolly12 · 25/09/2022 13:04

Interesting that many of the posters on this thread who are willing to take some action are people who actually benefit from the changes...

Birdy1066 · 25/09/2022 13:05

I’m absolutely horrified at what the Tories have done this week. They don’t make any pretence to represent the interests of the less well off and are blatant about making sure the rich get richer.
I can hardly believe they’ve had the audacity to pour more money into the pockets of the wealthy and at the same time tighten up UC. At a time when pensioners, those on benefits, the disabled and those in zero hours crap jobs are suffering immense hardship.
There should be another General Strike to show them that enough really is enough.

BiggerBoat1 · 25/09/2022 13:07

I have written to my local Tory MP. I asked her to comment on how this budget helps the ordinary people in her constituency. I doubt she'll reply.

I'll also be donating to the local foodbank.

Changemaname1 · 25/09/2022 13:08

I find it so frustrating but hold my hands up that I also just complain and do nothing , suppose it feels like nothing will change anyway so why bother - wrong attitude I know

just feel like the government are taking the absolute piss out of us and they know they are

this thread has given me a little food for thought though Thankyou

Worriedaboutethics · 25/09/2022 13:11

@icelolly12

i am crying inside about how our country is being ruined by the this government and the lying brexiteers.

labor should do a deal with Lib Dem's and go pro rejoining.

OrangeBananaFish · 25/09/2022 13:13

Genuine question, but will writing to my MP help? Obviously it would depend on you MP I assume. I'm in Richmondshire so my MP is Rishi

It all feels kind of pointless. Just have to vote them out next GE (which is a while away unfortunately)

BiggerBoat1 · 25/09/2022 13:16

Writing to my MP won't help as I'm in a safe tory seat, but I felt she should have to put her justification for this "budget" in writing. Might focus her mind on what her country are doing to us.

Bunnyfuller · 25/09/2022 13:20

I’ve written to my MP before, ignored. I just don’t see the point in writing to him for him to just not give a fuck about it. They know full well what they’re doing, they don’t care. Until there is mass action or a GE I feel helplessly trapped by it all. It’s like living in some dystopia. All the mitigations people are doing - food banks, cutting back etc. aren’t doing anything but enabling these crimes to push forward.

Unescorted · 25/09/2022 13:20

@OrangeBananaFish just create enough noise so that they realise that the electorate is pissed off with their self serving venal ways.
