Lidl/Aldi- a false economy?

Was away from home for a fortnight, I left two unopened Aldi yogurts with a long use by date and opened one for breakfast. It had a spot of green mould on it! My fridge was cold and it still had a week to go. The other one was fine. I open a cottage cheese with also a week to go and it's funky tasting.

Feeling the pinch from my time away, I do a shop at Lidl. That was on Saturday. Milk has gone cheesy. The mince I cooked yesterday was going brown despite being well within date. The cream turned two days after opening.

I bought dairy in the past from these shops and don't recall problems.

I'll be doing my shop at Sainsbury today. Anyone else noticed this?

If stuff is going off before the use-by-date, just take it back to the store for a replacement or refund.

I think supermarkets vary a lot, our Asda is awful , fruit and veg didn't last when I shopped there but the one near my sister is really good.

Never has issues, use Aldi and Lidl almost always

No. Tesco on the other hand….. I wonder if people sometimes pick stuff up, don’t buy it, put it down and the staff put it back in fridges etc

It will depend on the store, many Aldi's/Lidl's are built in residential areas and due to resident complaints, delivery drivers have to switch off their freezers/chillers before they enter the area. If their delivery falls around school time or rush hour it can take longer to get to the store, get unloaded and into the store chiller/freezer especially since (due to the chiller placement) the chilled and frozen is often the last to come off the lorry.

The times are kept track of, but something very close to the limit is going to be in worse shape than something that has been consistently chilled.

I'd bet your fridge went off and came on again.
