Address is expected but delayed. No idea why. What will he announce? Mobilisation?? Referenda?

WWII started with illegal annexes. That's happening now with this fake referendum. Then what? It's very precarious. One can only hope that the Kremlin removes Putin to stop this madness.

There is always several ex Generals giving their opinions on MSM, i take the majority view as being the most probable

l take them as their wish list. Not worth listening to. Why would a militaristic retired old man say anything worth listening to? Deluded.

Don’t be so ageist.

Have you noticed now the queen’s funeral is over it’s all news about Ukraine again ? Press no doubt will make us all start panicking again 😞

The news programmes can only cover so much. They prioritised the Queen’s funeral. Now that’s finished the next most pressing even is being reported. They aren’t doing it to panic us. They report the key events in order of importance and interest.

These are people with years of military experience, some of which was with the old USSR.

Putin is literally fighting for his life, if he cannot come out with something from his Ukraine war, then he is as good as dead.

Yes he is repeating what he has said before but the longer he keeps talking like this, the more likely it becomes a self fore filling prophecy, one where he is forced to act on his threats.

If Ukraine attacks the areas that have had a fraudulent vote on becoming Russian, what will Putin then do?

I think Ukraine will have to negotiate, lose territory but then become a NATO member, to prevent further Russian incursions.

The loses on both sides are horrendous but i have no sympathy for the Russians, as far as i'm concerned, they are the enemy.

So many unknowns but he is a very dangerous man (why is it always a Dickhead male?)

Ukraine has already attacked an area that has had a fraudulent vote on becoming Russian, i.e. Crimea.

That was in 2014, the West applauded and the Ukrainians didn't fight back.

Totally different set of circumstances.

Igotjelly · 21/09/2022 17:03

I think DomesticShortHair might be referring to the recent series of unfortunate events Ukrainian attacks that have taken place in Crimea?

Would you same the same about a retired surgeon etc or are they also just retired old men?

I'd like to think if you get to become NATO joint forces command, you ve learnt something.
Esp if you ve been in e.g. Falklands, NI, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

I'm not suggesting anyone starts a new religion around these folk but rough guess, they know more about the minds of the Russian Command than we do.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2022 17:17

Aegist whatever. I’m quite old too.

Ok, a militaristic retired warmongering general, who is interested in pushing his agenda from a combat point of view.

Is that better?😂

We aren’t all terrified by what one general says.

Much better, thank you.

As Igotjelly alludes to, I’m pretty sure that Ukraine‘s attacks on Crimea (which, I suppose, was technically Ukraine simultaneously both attacking and defending itself) were a lot more recent than 2014.

ScarlettnotOHara · 21/09/2022 17:35

@MarigoldPetals yes it’s a high priority but the newspapers showing all Russia’s nukes and Uk areas that would be wiped off the map certainly caused hysteria last time round!

Yes mistook what you wrote.

But the point still stands, they are different things, attacks on Crimea were extremely limited in their nature, the intention to disrupt, not drive Russia out from land the West seemingly were happy for Russia to have?

I don't recall howls of protest against this annexation, we all continued to grant grace and favour to Putin & his supporters.

The recent advances by Ukraine, if they continue at a pace, will be to re claim what Russia will consider "the mother land" should these 100% free and fair referendums take place!
