Cost of a new kitchen

I'm getting quotes for a new kitchen ( 9ft x 13ft ) and have just received one from Howdens , it does include appliances which I'm sure if I shop round I can get cheaper but really wanted to save the hassle of doing all that myself .
Anyway they've quoted £11,224.00 , just the tap is £200 (I think they saw me coming) The last time I bought a new kitchen was 25 years ago so a bit out of touch re prices .
Has anyone tried Howdens but found another supplier that's cheaper ?

Yes that's about right, depending on several factors. But you can't order through Howdens, your builder does, and the discount they get depends on how many kitchens they get off of them.
One of the best things about Howdens is they have everything in stock, and if there's something missing you (or builder) can just pop down. Plus they take back items you don't use.
Their design service is very variable though, and you might do better to source the worktop yourself.

The quote has been done through my fitters account, Howdens have just emailed me letting me know about their September/October sale but I will have to place the order soon in order to benefit.
have also had a quote back from DIY but the code they gave me to retrieve it isn't working!

Another vote for DIY Kitchens. They beat my howdens quote by over £4k. Bespoke colours, solid wood units. Excellent product and customer service.

Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 13:24

I've got it DIY price is £5576 ! That's nearly half Howdens price ! Obviously I have to get appliances but that'll only be about another £1000

I've in Spain so hard to compare but IKEA were very good. Come out and verify your measurements etc. The fitters were excellent and did it in a long day. Took all the waste away.
Have plenty of large lower drawers rather than cupboards. It's game changer as you can use all the space without scrabbling around.

America12 · 21/09/2022 13:46

I think that sounds about right.

Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 14:14

I've just spoken to my fitter and he's never used DIY but has heard good things about them.

My fitter hadn't fitted a diy before mine. He was very impressed at the quality of the cabinets and that they're delivered fully assembled.

Ooh are they ! It
might knock a bit off the fitting price 🤞
I have really gone off Howdens , the £11,000 they quoted wasn't the sale price and when I pointed this out to them they've come back and knocked £1000 off , which doesn't seem like much of a reduction to me .

Op don't panic about Howdens,it's a sales push technicque.
Their prices are elastic

Someone posted a man going around to all kitchen fitters looking at quality and price and he said it was Howdens he was shocked by and their inflated prices...

We had DIY and missed a few small parts and had some small knocks..
Replacement sent the next day by courier!! Down South!

Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 19:01

@PaperTyger im definitely leaning more towards DIY , I've done a rough tally and with appliances and floor tiles (how do you work out square meterage 🤣) it comes to £7000 ish , the fitter said £2500 to fit plus moving the door over a bit , laying tiles , I'm hoping it'll be around the £14/15k mark.

Around 9k without fitting. 7ft x 13ft galley Fitting was £150 a day labour. 3 weeks. (had to wait for electrician etc and plastered new joists in floor. Was a complete gut out)

For those that have had a DIY shaker kitchen, are the doors painted or wrapped ?

£10k supply and fit. Three years ago.

CCSS15 · 21/09/2022 20:12

We use DIY kitchens and it is fabulous - easy to install and quality fantastic
Got worktops separately but they were a good price too if you bought direct

BEAM123 · 21/09/2022 20:26

You can get some things cheaper, eg I got the tap in my kitchen design from eBay (still new and boxed), also got the dishwasher from eBay as a quality second (there was a dent somewhere that wouldn't show anyway as it is built in), shopped around for the oven, hob etc and found them cheaper on AO.com.

I saved quite a bit by doing that.

MyBuggyIsOutToGetMe · 21/09/2022 20:26

@Vapeyvapevape , it depends on the style. They do painted and foil wrapped, and painted solid wood and MDF depending on whether you want a smooth finish (and whether you want V grooves).

toogoodforthisworld · 21/09/2022 20:43

We got ours from magnet.
We got a complimentary dishwasher with the kitchen. Without worktop and appliances (just a black sink and nice tap) we paid about 3 grand.
Fitting cost 1K but we helped them a lot too.
worktop cost 6 hundred (oak)
I had a new oven at 250 and a new 5 zone hob 300.
We already had an American fridge

BUT we put all the cupboards together our selves ..

Total including all appliances and fitting:
Approx 5.5K

Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 23:00

Would anyone with a DIY kitchen mind showing me a picture- sorry for all the questions but this is a big deal for me (as for most people I guess) and I don't want to get it wrong!
im going for the Dalby in white.

Ours is solid wood painted. We went for bespoke colours which added about 20% to the price.

Daft question alert!
When measuring your kitchen ready to put the details in the planner do you measure wall-to-wall or skirting board-to-skirting board? The difference is about 6cm, so not huge, but in a very, very small kitchen could make the difference!

ultraviolet4753 · 22/09/2022 09:43

Magnet were really good with us last year and with the sale of 50% off appliances and a cabinets offer, was cheapest by far.

We have the world's smallest kitchen and he got everything to fit, redesigned it when i thought of something else, and worked around our disabilities to what would be best for us.

The fitting was too expensive, so hired our own guy, but it was a lot of faff arranging all the separate services. We couldn't find someone to do the compact laminate worktops though, as they're a bit different, so he arranged one of their fitters to do it.
