Cost of a new kitchen

I'm getting quotes for a new kitchen ( 9ft x 13ft ) and have just received one from Howdens , it does include appliances which I'm sure if I shop round I can get cheaper but really wanted to save the hassle of doing all that myself .
Anyway they've quoted £11,224.00 , just the tap is £200 (I think they saw me coming) The last time I bought a new kitchen was 25 years ago so a bit out of touch re prices .
Has anyone tried Howdens but found another supplier that's cheaper ?

My friend has a kitchen from DIY Kitchens and I'm so impressed with it. We'll definitely get ours from there when we come to replace in the next year or so.

The look of it is lovely, and she has some fancy cupboards which I'm very easily impressed by - bins in cupboards and a pull out larder etc.

I'm easy to impress Grin

Another DIY kitchens vote. My DM got her kitchen from the for £5k, same kitchen from magnet was £15k. The fitters hadn’t heard of DIY kitchens but said they thought it was excellent and said they would recommend it.

Vapeyvapevape · 20/09/2022 22:44

I'm just trying to plan the kitchen on the DIY website and making a complete pigs ear of it . So far I have 19 warnings ! I'm really not confident that I'd get it right .

@Vapeyvapevape ,most people aren’t at first! Keep playing around with it. Try copying the Howdens plan. Or stick it on here and let a loose!

Or get on the DIY kitchens Facebook page and look for Karen, who is OnePlan on Houzz. She will do it all for you remotely for what looked like a reasonable cost.

I have managed ours - I’ll let you know how the fitting goes 🤞

Vapeyvapevape · 20/09/2022 23:43

I've sent the Howdens quote to DIY to see what they can come up with.

Try Magnet

ihatebingbunny · 21/09/2022 03:06

sent the Howsens drawing to Benchmarx - they will undercut them but a good way then go back to howdens and ask them to match it. that's what we did, got £4k off the original quote

I'll try this too but it does piss me off when companies reduce their quote when presented with a competitors because it means they were ripping me off with the original quote . That's business I guess .

We used howdens, really like the kitchen.we didn’t haggle but I think we should have done. Our excellent fitter recommended b&q.

user1494050295 · 21/09/2022 07:29

We just did a virtual meeting with Ikea who quoted £7k. Not a large kitchen but it did include appliances.

ginislife · 21/09/2022 07:29

@NannyGythaOgg I agree. I had quotes from Howdens and Magnet. £12k and £16k. No fitting. My fitter put the 2 plans together and redrew it then ordered virtually identical to the lovely Magnet kitchen from DIY Kitchens for £5.5k. I had a wall knocked out, quartz worktops that were £4k, a boiling water tap that was £500, 2 sinks, a new oven, hob and microwave. And that lot came in bang on my £15k budget 2.5 years ago. I love my kitchen.

I think Howdens and bench mark are Same?
Maybe not but many places are connected.

PaperTyger · 21/09/2022 07:45

Op go somewhere like home base with your measurements.
Get them to do plan then give that to DIY.

You need experience first before trying to do it..
We dreaded it I tried to pay someone to measure for us
In the end we managed it

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 21/09/2022 07:55

Our kitchen fitting is going to be £2.5k next month on a slightly bigger kitchen.

That's very reasonable!

I'd ask for a qoute without the appliances. They are incredibly expensive from Howdens and all standard sizes, so very easy to buy your own cheaper.

I can't remember exactly butcI remember being horrified by the cost of the intergrated microwave and the unit it sat in. Think over £300 each. Also, fun fact, wall height integrated microwaves are tiny inside, smaller than a standard worktop one. Like a caravan. Put me off.

Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 09:45

Yes I'll definitely ditch the Howdens appliances , I might even keep my hob as it's fine and a black glass square is a black glass square. I'll also source my own tap as £200 is a bit steep.

OP posts:
Vapeyvapevape · 21/09/2022 09:46

I also think integrated microwaves are a bit dangerous as they all seem to be fitted high up.

I don't live in the uk atm, but prices have gone CRAZY. We just got our new kitchen, it turned out beautiful and super functional and it was 20k-ish, fitting included. Crazy, though

readingismycardio · 21/09/2022 09:50

Forgot to add it includes an island

IrmaGord · 21/09/2022 09:57

Got ours from DIY kitchens, but we live near them so it was easy to visit the showroom. It's a galley kitchen. We have an American style fridge freezer, double cooker and a dishwasher (already had the washing machine and dryer) and it was £8k for everything including appliances and fitting, and tiles for the floor and walls (although it was about 4 years ago now).

Can definitely recommend DIY although the worst thing is measuring it yourself. We actually got one of the units wrong so had to reorder and wait another 6 weeks for it. Although if you got the plans from Howdens, can you use that?

CombatBarbie · 21/09/2022 10:01

We had a howdens quote, large room 5m x 9m and quoted 15k. We went to an independent and it's £11k. Not fitted.

DIY kitchens have good reviews.

MacaroniBaloney · 21/09/2022 10:44

But get yiur sink from Howdens. I didn't on a previous kitchen and god knows what I bought butvit didn't fit the base unit and it had to be butchered.

I didn't use their planner, found it annoying. Sat down with squared paper and pencil and did it that way. It's just fitting together enough boxes (cabinets) into the space you have. The units available are all the same sizes that Howdens will do so if you have the list of sizes then you can just select the units on the DIY website and go from there.

Would also second posting it on here, someone might have a bright idea you've not thought of!
