Omg I've crashed the car. How much is this going to cost?

I'm in a right state and my husband is going to be furious. Is this really bad? Are we talking ££££? I'm so upset.

Won't he just be relieved that you're OK op?
The car is replaceable, you're not.

SeriousChild · 20/09/2022 17:58

I've no idea but these things happen and that what's insurance is for.

If your husband's reaction is anything other than "OMG are you OK?", you should be furious.

Biscuitandacuppa · 20/09/2022 17:59

Claim on the insurance? It looks like a full new bumper required and hopefully there’ll be no damage to the crumple zone.

RuthW · 20/09/2022 17:59

Glad you are ok. Won't insurance pay? I'd say a few thousand for that.

omgnonono · 20/09/2022 17:59

I thought I was in park and I wasn't, I turned around to pass something to my toddler and next thing I knew I'd crashed Sad it was just stupidity so I imagine he'll be pretty annoyed at the cost if it's going to be thousands 😭

A new bumper and headlight . Did you go over something or collide?

KittytheHare · 20/09/2022 18:00

looks pricy but that’s why people have car insurance. It happens, it’s horrible but you’ll both get over it

Timeforabiscuit · 20/09/2022 18:00

I know the shock will be massive, but it looks like a cosmetic ding, cars are made to be dinged and keep the people inside safe.

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 20/09/2022 18:01

"it was just stupidity so I imagine he'll be pretty annoyed at the cost if it's going to be thousands 😭"

You wont need to pay thousands because you'll claim on the insurance. If your husband is angry with you for having an accident then he's a dickhead.

BabyNo11989 · 20/09/2022 18:07

If it makes you feel any better OP I did worse than that, similarly not in park but in drive. It went into a bin shed, took that out AND a tree all bent over 😂 this is in addition to the damage to car. It was thousands, insurance sorted it all. I was fuming at myself at the time, but now I can laugh

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 20/09/2022 18:11

The insurance will sort out damage to the car.

I am more worried about the fact you’re so scared of your husband’s reaction. That’s a far bigger issue. Is this how you always feel when something goes wrong? What reaction are you expecting?

omgnonono · 20/09/2022 18:11

Husband gets it was an accident but is upset how much it'll cost he's saying we can't claim on insurance because we'll lose 20 years no claims? I don't get it surely the whole point of insurance is using it if you need to Sad

JenJones5 · 20/09/2022 18:11

The headlight is likely to be the most expensive bit. Add in the bumper and anything a bit bent behind it and I’d give a “finger in the air” estimate of £1,000 to get it looking like new again.

Move22 · 20/09/2022 18:14

Did he protect the no claims bonus?

PerfectPlum123 · 20/09/2022 18:15

Hope you are ok OP. Remember you will need a new car seat for little one. Definitely claim on insurance

LordEmsworth · 20/09/2022 18:15

No, you'll lose 2-3 years of your no-claims discount

www.comparethemarket.com/car-insurance/content/no-claims-discount/

And after 9-10 years' no-claims, the incremental discount is minimal. So even 15-16 years of no-claims will be very similar to 20 years...

MynameisJune · 20/09/2022 18:16

Depending on the car a new headlight unit can be £1000+ and then bumper and potentially needing re-spray. I hope he protected the no claims but either way accidents happen and that’s why we have insurance.

This right here.

LIZS · 20/09/2022 18:18

If it is a relatively new car did he take out a policy for cosmetic body damage?

Oblomov22 · 20/09/2022 18:18

Ouch. That looks expensive. Dh's best friend owns a garage and I fear that this will involve lots of different bits of work.

Round here though loads of people will give you a price online just by photos to mend prangs.

LondonQueen · 20/09/2022 18:19

It doesn't look too bad to me. maybe a couple of £££ at most.

Absolutely agree with all of this

User1754983 · 20/09/2022 18:20

Does he not protect his no claims, it's usually only a little extra

Phillipa12 · 20/09/2022 18:24

op if it makes you feel better years ago I was driving behind my now exhs car and my toddler started playing with the car door, I turned round and told her to stop it, I took my eyes off the road for 2 seconds and when I turned back the queueing traffic had stopped and all I could think was that my exhs brake lights looked so pretty. I was only going 20mph but was driving a Discovery, I wrote his car off. Use the insurance that's what it's there for and as pps have said you are not replaceable, the car is.
