Strictly on the 31st October?

a day before?

a week before?

My toddler is very excited about Halloween this year, it’s the first year where she remembers the last, so she knows what’s going to be going on - and we’ve moved from a village that’s mostly elders that didn’t participate in Halloween to a village that mostly family’s so I feel like it’s going to be a good year!😄

but when do we put the pumpkins out ect?!

We never used to do Halloween. But it’s snuck in on us.

this is my current set up.

dh has said it’s ridiculous. But we are away for Christmas this year so we don’t get to do Christmas decorations. So I’m doing Halloween/autumn.

When do you put up Halloween decorations?
TakeMeToYourLiar · 20/09/2022 07:54

We’re putting ours up 8 days before this year

MummyDrinksWine · 20/09/2022 07:54

@ememem84 i love that! I can’t wait to decorate for autumn.. where did you get your knitted pumpkins?🤭

We decorate for the half term holidays, it becomes one of our activities during the holiday.

Mine are more autumn than Halloween, but I will put a wreath and garland on the door this week. Halloween week I hang witches hats from the trees on the front garden path!

Never - it is an american load of rubbish
Cannot understand why parents indulge this rubbish and do not teach their kids about Guy Fawkes which could have totally changed the uk and europe
Most kids will never even have heard of him or the plot
Incredible -
The dumbing down and forgetting of UK culture is incredible as is the lack of general knowledge most kids have now

Sparklingbrook · 20/09/2022 09:43

When it gets dark on 31/10 to when the last sweets run out. When the children were younger maybe for a couple of days beforehand too because we had to do the pumpkin scooping/carving etc.

I think it's got a lot bigger since those days though, rules may have changed.

Sparklingbrook · 20/09/2022 09:44

Countdown until someone says 'begging' now we've already had the American connection. Grin

EveSix · 20/09/2022 09:48

At dusk on October 31st.
We don't "observe" Halloween.

Not this again... every year.

I bet you think Santa Claus is American too. Come on, let's just get all of this out of the way nice and early this year Grin

Never. There's too many celebrations in the year just to add another one.

KosherDill · 20/09/2022 09:52

Two of my neighbors already have garish strings of orange lights and large fake ghosts out. Eyesores for the next six weeks. Hmm

Retrievemysanity · 20/09/2022 09:54

Autumn decs (wreath and acorn garlands etc) some time in September. Halloween stuff for half term as we often have a party.

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 20/09/2022 09:54

"Most kids will never even have heard of him or the plot"

You really think most kids have never heard of Guy Fawkes? Confused

Even if their parents don't teach them, they learn about the gunpowder plot in school.

Elphame · 20/09/2022 09:55

Just realised I never got around to taking mine down from last year!

Fluffygreenslippers · 20/09/2022 09:56

I have spooky stuff up year round. Halloween is when I do my decor shopping. 😁

Coughee · 20/09/2022 10:02

Perhaps kewin's poor kids can only retain one bit of information at a time..

I usually put a few bits up in the living room the week before. And a couple of bits outside the day of just to signify to the local kids that we are a trick or treat friendly house. I only put the pumpkins out on Halloween night because they rot quite quickly otherwise.

User19876 · 20/09/2022 10:08

October 1st. It all gets very puritanical on these threads, there isn’t a limit on fun and celebration. I also managed to teach my children about Guy Fawkes, and the historical background to Halloween (which is not American 🙄).

PinkButtercups · 20/09/2022 10:09

I have a pumpkin sweet jar already out and two pumpkin wax melters on my fire place. DS (3) wanted them up when I bought them so that's what we done. We will decorate beginning of October inside with little pumpkin lights etc as it's nice for DS and he likes it.

We're also doing him a little halloween party on the Saturday before Halloween so will probably add more decorations closer to the time.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/09/2022 10:11

Never did very much but the kids loved to make pumpkin lanterns on the afternoon of 31st, eat baked potatoes and watch a “scary” film.

Firstly, calm down hun. Halloween is on the 31st October and just a bit of fun.

Literally every kid who attends school gets taught about Guy Fawkes.

Calm down and have a pumpkin spice latte.
