Which room is the untidiest in your house?

Teenage daughter’s room!

After the summer holidays it has got really grotty. It’s getting me down and I feel like blitzing it while she is at school. She will do the basics eg dust the shelves, put dirty clothes in the wash but it needs proper decluttering, hoovering behind the bed and between the cupboards, sorting out clothes that don’t fit any more, organising all the shelves. It’s too small for her now she is a teenager but I don’t know where to start!

What’s the worst room in your house and are you avoiding it like me?

Dressing room is a tip as we are packing for holidays, games room looks like a bombs hit it plus I think someone has spilt pop on the sofa!! I've been at work 9-5 for the last two weeks and although the other half tries the whole house needs cleaning. Can't wait for my off day on Thursday to tackle it

Teen daughter room is known as the swamp. It is vile. Every 3/4 months we have an amnesty and clear together. It's better for about 3 days. Makes me seething with peri menopausal anger...must step away from the swamp...and focus on kitchen which is constantly on a rotation of pristine for ten minutes before swamp monsters pass through.

Sunnysal · 19/09/2022 21:25

My craft room . It's just full of stuff. Loads of storage but just FULL.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 21:25

Dd24 and the spare bedroom. To be fair we don't have much storage but I've just ordered fitted wardrobes and drawers for the spare room to make it into a walk-in wardrobe, I can't wait !

RewildingAmbridge · 19/09/2022 21:27

Spare room, things get dumped in there on the way to or from the loft. I'm also selling quite a few baby things, next to me, mobile, bouncer etc so they've been brought down to be photographed and left in there until sold

JellyTots2022 · 19/09/2022 21:29

Kitchen. It's clean I just don't have enough cupboard space to put things away so it gets cluttered and DH seems to think we need every fancy kitchen gadget going. 🤫

JenJones5 · 19/09/2022 21:30

DH’s office. Every other room is ready for a spread in Hello magazine, but despite him genuinely trying, his office just doesn’t match.

NoMoreChubRub · 19/09/2022 21:31

Teens mainly as its tiny so even a sock on floor makes it look a mess
Every other room is immaculate (spent all weekend sorting and cleaning every cupboard etc inc playroom)

lucysmam · 19/09/2022 21:38

Dd2's bedroom by a clear mile! It's tiny & cluttered. We've tried to sort most of her stuff tidily into baskets but there is nowhere for her army of soft toys to live so they're scattered about the room, her bookshelf is heaving & double stacked 🙄 It does my nut in.

We have a tidy up together most half terms/ school holidays & I mostly ignore it the rest of the time.

And the kitchen. It's massive, but has a serious lack of storage so I have a side of small appliances & various baking tins without a home. Plus my new printer doesn't fit anywhere so that's taken up residence on another side. And the old printer is waiting for me to decide its fate 🤷‍♀️

PeloFondo · 19/09/2022 21:39

Spare bedroom
It's my wardrobes, clothes drying, peloton, weights room

Whiskeypowers · 19/09/2022 21:42

Imissmoominmama · 19/09/2022 20:49

My bedroom 😬

Snap
I walk in there and despair. Fortunately I’m so exhausted by the time I drag my carcass in there i just flop into bed and conk out 🫣

SudocremOnEverything · 19/09/2022 21:45

DS2 (13)’s room. By quite some margin.

savehannah · 19/09/2022 21:45

Obviously Dd16s room which is a complete shithole.

Apart from that what happens in our house is one room gets tidied and a load of crap from that room gets shoved into another room. So the messiest /tidiest room award moves around the house.

Kitchen!

It's clean but I don't have enough storage so I'm constantly shuffling things around to make space for what I'm doing. It drives me mad.

I have teenagers too so that's telling you something about how much I hate it!

Watch Dana K White on YouTube.

dhell totally change your thinking about clutter, including a kitchen.

You do NOT need to be a hoarder or a slob (she has a website 'a slob comes clean' to benefit from watching her and learning a few things).

NCFT0922 · 19/09/2022 21:46

The playroom. I do tidy it up every evening once the children are asleep but it’s so messy again within an hour of them waking up.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 19/09/2022 21:48

threegoodthings · 19/09/2022 20:49

DD11's room. Clean clothes, dirty clothes, drinks, lego, art stuff, school stuff, just everywhere. Every so often we have a tidy up together and it seems to be back in its original state within about 10 minutes

Rest of the house is lovely!

That's because he needs to get rid of some stuff. You need to declutter, not organise.no amount if 'organising' will help when there's simply too much stuff.

(Dana K white. YouTube. Life changing)

MinglingFlamingo · 19/09/2022 21:48

The office / dumping ground. Don't know where to put something , stick it in there. Closely followed by the spare room/ ironing room. Loads of washed clothes which haven't made it to the appropriate bedroom yet.

Floralnomad · 19/09/2022 21:48

Ours is also my husbands office , it seems to attract all the junk that comes through the front door and because he’s in there a lot doing long hours I never feel like clearing it when it’s free . The rest of our house is clutter free.

CatchersAndDreams · 19/09/2022 21:49

The hallway. Shoes/post/coats - does my head in but I'm as bad as the dc

TenoringBehind · 19/09/2022 21:52

Husband’s office.

stuff all over the chairs, desk, floor. Crumbs and coffee rings on his desk and the coffee table. I refuse to clean it but he doesn’t bother either. I close the door whenever I walk by so that I don’t need to see it.

Itsanothergrunt · 19/09/2022 21:52

Eldest dc by far. I have 3 teens, 1 is a neat freak, 1 is somewhere in the middle the other is a total tip - until the girlfriend is due to stay over, wish she'd stay over more!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 19/09/2022 21:57

Dana K White on youtube

her website is 'A Slob Comes Clean'

She has books...

but her YouTube's are all you need.

Declutter
Progress & only progress
Do Dishes Daily
5 minute tidy

Declutter don't organise.

watch lots of her YouTube's. It's life changing if you take the EASY principals on board!!

(I need to see if I can arrange a deal with her!! I could do with the commission)

MargaretThursday · 19/09/2022 21:58

It's probably easier to say which is the tidiest. Other than the budgie cage I cleaned today it's the downstairs toilet because if that was untidy no one could get in.

NCFT0922 · 19/09/2022 21:58

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination ffs we get it, Dana!! You’ve got a pissing YouTube!!!

ArtichokeAardvark · 19/09/2022 22:04

My bedroom. No-one else ever goes in there so it's my lowest priority to clean, and I never get round to putting clothes away. I do find it horribly depressing sometimes though, given its the only space in the house not overrun by my children's stuff.
