If you have a toddler how will you watch the Queens funeral?

As in, how will you keep your toddler occupied whilst trying to watch proceedings? (To those who are interested in watching it obviously).

With difficulty 😂 I’m not sure that it will be possible TBH. I have a tablet that we only use for long car journeys, I’ve got it on charge and I’m hoping the novelty might keep them quiet for a short while!

SuperlativeOxymoron · 19/09/2022 09:42

We're going to PiL, he's got a lot of toys in their livingroom, so we'll take it in turns playing with him when he gets bored of watching proceedings.

But DH and FiL aren't particularly interested, so it'll be a bit easier.

Inklingpot · 19/09/2022 09:46

I imagine people with toddlers will be watching it accompanied by an increasingly insistent ‘but whyyyyyy do we have to watch this? I want Peppa Pig/a biscuit/cartoons/a poo/juice!’

Anotherunimaginativeusername · 19/09/2022 09:51

With difficulty. We have just done some marching round the living room & singing the grand old Duke of York while watching the procession to Westminster Abbey. That's going to get old quickly!

MolliciousIntent · 19/09/2022 09:53

We're not. I'd love to, but I think it's very unfair to force my toddler to stay in the living room all day while I pay attention to something else.

blitzen · 19/09/2022 09:53

My kid has already had a meltdown as he wants something from cbeebies on. I'm going to watch the funeral on my phone then....

It's a few hours. I'm sure your toddler will cope.

Nikkynakkynoo · 19/09/2022 09:56

Just switched on and my 18 month old is currently stood on a footstool right in front of the TV dancing to the bagpipes...so patriotic 😂

Hugasauras · 19/09/2022 09:57

We'll just have it on in background but I imagine it'll be on iPlayer to watch at your leisure later! We have a baby class at 12 so I'll need to miss the end anyway.

LT2 · 19/09/2022 09:58

Not quite a toddler yet but same difficulties! My mum has invited me and my 8 month old round so hoping he'll be more occupied being somewhere else with toys he doesn't play with often✌️

Danikm151 · 19/09/2022 09:58

I’ve pretty much accepted that i’m going to have to try and watch on catch up. A 2 year old is not going to watch.
maybe the processions will be interesting for him but there’s no point trying with the actual funeral.
trip to the park later.

My peace sign was supposed to be 🤞

She's 2, she doesn't even sit through a feature film yet, she's not going to cope with sitting in the living room for hours watching things she has zero interest in, and it would be very unfair to force her to do so. 15minutes, yes. A few hours, no.

milkysmum · 19/09/2022 10:04

Is your baby class definitely on hugasaurus? Everything round here has been cancelled completed either for the whole day as it's bank holiday, or until after 5pm ( my gym for example isn't running any classes until after 5 today ).

TrainRide · 19/09/2022 10:15

Everything here is closed including our toddler class this afternoon, and nursery.

We are going to try to use iPad. It's a once in our lifetime day and I really want to see it live as far as possible. Obviously if toddler gets irate we will change the plan!

Does she not have any toys?

Devo1818 · 19/09/2022 10:16

Put a play mat on the floor in front of the TV covered in Duplo and other little bits. Tray of snacks on the side.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 19/09/2022 10:20

Oh thank God we're not the only ones in this situation. I'm wondering about ceding the big TV and the comfy chair to avoid the Battle of the "I WANT CARS ON TV", and maybe if we put the big laptop on a high piece of furniture we can huddle on the second chair and watch it without the 10-month-old trying to pull the screen off the keyboard as well.
I'm charging the iPad as we speak.
Have two under three, they said...

Yep, we got an email to say. The local soft play is open too! We are obviously heathens up here Grin

cherrybakewell24 · 19/09/2022 10:23

I've got a 2 and 3 year old, I've got the play doh out and my 3 year old has been entertaining herself with that (having to grit my teeth while it goes everywhere - at least she's quiet!) my 2 year old is pottering round the place. I've got Ben and holly on the main tv with volume low and watching on my phone on iplayer. So far so good!

roarfeckingroarr · 19/09/2022 10:25

Mine is just pootling about the living room while we watch it, chatting with us and playing with his toys.

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 19/09/2022 10:28

I’ve got a 3yo and a 1yo and have decided to go out for the day with them and watch it later on catch up. I’m listening in the radio in the drive but although it’s history I value a day with my family more.

roarfeckingroarr · 19/09/2022 10:29

We don't really let ours watch TV unless it's a film together so no demands for CBeebies or whatever.

It's funny how they're all so different and some are happy to just be and entertain themselves to a certain extent while others can't.

I'll take him out to the park this afternoon.

Smug much?

you are such a good parent, it’s a shame the rest of us can’t measure up.
I can’t face the demands for bluey or duggee endlessly so have gone out. My 1yo would be very happy to potter, my 3.5yo less so

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/09/2022 10:31

I'd suggest popping out to get a roll of Duct Tape.
