What happens if you need the loo (Westminster Abbey)?!

Makes me cross my legs just thinking about it. Some of those people have been sitting there for ages already and the service doesn’t start for two hours. No-one seems to be getting up and popping off for to the loo…maybe they’re told they can’t once seated?

I think I would actually turn an invite down on that basis!!!

I was brought up - (it's pretty normal in an upper middle-class upbringing) - that you don't trot off to the loo all the time - in the morning & the evening should be enough. And you exercise common sense - you don't drink much, you eat early. Normal self control & common sense, really.

Ahh that’s it then. If you’re not riff raff you’ll be fine. A different breed of bladder!

I can drink nothing and I still need to go!

Me too! I always need an aisle seat near a loo…

We can sit together and curse our thimble bladders next time we're at Westminster 🤣

BorgQueen · 19/09/2022 20:28

I think that the reason for the ‘Long walk’ bit was so that all the royals in the cars could dash into Windsor, go to the loo then gulp down a sandwich and a cuppa. I’d have been fainting by 4pm otherwise, they had been on the go since just after 10.00. I thought Camilla looked really shaky at one point.

icelolly12 · 19/09/2022 20:42

God yeah there were quite a few 80 year olds and over, some who were coughing away during the two minutes silence🙄...I was also wondering how/if they can last without having a wee...and also the children.

HoneyFlowers · 19/09/2022 22:04

This is all I could think of too, when could they pop to the loos!

I thought this too. I couldn't sit for that length of time. Do you think you get a time slot and the least famous people have to be there first?

They brought everyone in by bus (probably to ensure orderly arrival times and because getting round through the central cordons would be an utter nightmare)

The venue for the Park and Ride is now known to have been the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where there were loos.

No I don't think they wanted much wandering round when at the Abbey, and most people, with a chance to go just beforehand will be fine. But I guess there must be some sort of arrangement for those who need adjustments (maybe sitting nearer the loos, so they can go if necessary without disturbing the stream of other arrivals?)

Though of course there are a lot of very stoic people in those circles - look at how Prince Phillip was reputed to have made himself ill from lack of loo provision on the Royal barge during diamond jubilee celebrations.

I got anxiety just looking at them all cramped together with the eyes of the world on them and no easy access to a toilet.
My IBS would dictate I sat on the toilet most of the service possibly causing a security incident with my odd behaviour.

ZeppelinTits · 20/09/2022 00:02

I'm really glad you posted this because that was my first thought watching people arrive at 8am and realising with horror how long it might be til they got to have a wee. I can't go an hour!

Yayyayitsaholiholiday · 20/09/2022 00:14

I had to wee in a bush in the churchyard just after my wedding, in all my finery, with my brand new husband keeping an eye out! The vicar had locked the church and rushed off and with a few Proseccos earlier at the hotel, I had to go!!!!

Kite22 · 20/09/2022 00:15

Glad to have found this thread. I've been concerned about this all day.

expat101 · 20/09/2022 00:39

I saw the blond lady crossing as well and thought it was Camilla.

crowsfeet57 · 20/09/2022 01:38

I saw someone nip into their seat during the service so I assumed they had been to the loo.

mackthepony · 20/09/2022 01:49

Yeah us commoners just piss all over the fucking floor

Breeding n all that

Riverlee · 20/09/2022 01:59

My thought as well when I saw people arriving. If I don’t have a drink, I’ll then feel faint. . You’ll need a big breakfast to keep you going on such a long day. There must have been sandwich points at various stages throughout the day.

I have a 30 minuts bladder so this is an issue for me too. I was wondering about that 6 hour drive through Scotland last week too. Did they stop enroute at all?
That's a long time to go without going. 😁

Yes, they stopped at Brechin Castle for a comfort break.

As a nurse I instinctively took one look at Biden and assumed he had a sheath on attached to a bag on his leg.
Can't imagine him queueing for the loo after the service.

What??? Why Biden, particularly?

Would that be a normal thing to do?

Tractordiggerdump · 19/09/2022 15:11

My husband used to be in the armed services. He said there would be a lot of peeing in that March!

What?? Soldiers just piss themselves? Really?

bloodyunicorns · 20/09/2022 06:35

Interesting post, @2bazookas!

I noticed that the cameras weren't doing long extended close-ups of anyone in the RF yesterday, which came across as respectful and kind.

BarrelOfOtters · 20/09/2022 07:05

Food…I’d have needed food. Would have been narky and shaky if I’d gone from 10 to 7.30 without something.

Playplayaway · 20/09/2022 07:17

I'd have to squeeze a cheese sandwich, opal fruits and tena pads into my handbag to keep me going for a few hours.

transformandriseup · 20/09/2022 07:18

I once waited five hours with friends to get to the front at a concert. There was no eating and drinking from around 10am that day. That was in my early 20's though and I am sure I couldn't manage even 10 years later. I really hope they could get to a toilet when they cameras weren't on them.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 20/09/2022 07:25

As pp said for me it's the fear of being trapped in that situation and no options that don't involved massive embarrassment. I spent the entire morning worrying for them in a massive projection of my own anxieties.

MsMcGonagall · 20/09/2022 07:34

There are loos at Westminster Abbey
