Lever arch files. I’ve never known one last longer than 3 months before all the prongs misalign and the clip things due.

Why are they so shit and yet keep selling and selling?

LED lights on everything, does my head in. They fit them on everything now as a ‘handy night light’. Some of them flash (ie chargers). Anything battery operated or plug in seems to have them. My bedroom was like a nightclub at night until I purged them all out!

This! And the poxy beeping that goes on intermittently for bloody ages on my washing machine and dishwasher after they've finished washing the dishes or done a load of laundry - they're the home appliance equivalent of my husband proudly announcing he's cleaned the bathroom floor or vacuumed the lounge that leave me wanting to yell: 'Whaddya want? A fucken MEDAL'?

Gravy cat food pouches...the jelly ones are ok but the gravy ones never come out fully without utensils and hands covered in meat Envy

We stayed in a hotel and there was a bright blue random flashing light on the tv. I put a plaster over it.
my daughter gets razor blades on subscription (shave club) the blades are great, but impossible to get on the handle.

Foundation in a pump dispenser, once you reach the last quarter of the bottle the pump does not work so you have to unscrew the top to get the foundation out as if it was a tomato sauce bottle, not only this but you also have to find somewhere to put the foundation covered lid and pump dispenser, it’s messy and infuriating, Revlon sort your shit out!

These should be banned.

That's the only type I can use due to poor dexterity.

sjxoxo · 18/09/2022 21:06

honestly I would say cars.
I would really really love to talk to someone who is high up in the motor industry to explain to me the purchasing experience and the design process of cars. I’m really interested in design and consumer products, and I just do not get it. The following facts absolutely bewilder me on a v regular basis:

  • most peoples car is the second most expensive purchase in their lifetimes behind their house. You could buy a pair of shoes at Chanel for a fraction of the price of a new car, and receive a level of service that is astronomically better.
  • who designs car sales garages and please why are they the way they are? Shit coffee, cheap seating, crap access, stink of rubber, no decent parking for customers coming to view. No intimacy, no comfort.. more thought is put into an M&S store layout and the average item price is nothing compared to a car.
  • Horrible design of cars - the shapes, the colours. The only car that’s been a roaring success in recent years is the Fiat 500. Light interior, cute styling. Why are all other cars seemingly made for ‘men’???
  • You buy this mega price item, and then 15 years later a major part fails. Mechanics tell you it’s common in this type of car. Will the manufacturer replace for you? Absolutely not. IKEA have a better returns & service policy.

Honestly if anyone reading this has any experience of the motor industry please explain the logic to me 😁 ..rant over!

Dont get me started on fridges. What do you buy if you have a classic kitchen?? My fridge looks like a mini morgue in a shaker kitchen.

Madamswearsalot · 18/09/2022 21:08

The Apple mouse that has the charging point on the underside. The underside you use for moving the cursor around.

sjxoxo · 18/09/2022 21:08

Kudos to the pp who said those cat sachets that flick fishy sauce over you as you tear open the pack (Any cat sachets basically). I have this 3 times a day. I often think there must be no one at any of these pet food companies who has a cat who has ever actually fed one of their products to their cat 😂

Women’s bodies.

Prettypennies · 18/09/2022 21:11

A Smeg fridge! Although they cost a fortune….

Prettypennies · 18/09/2022 21:12

Woops that was a response for @sjxoxo

Unicorn2022 · 18/09/2022 21:14

All toasters - even the ones with pathetic pull out crumb drawers are shit. None of them can be cleaned properly. Why hasn't someone designed a better toaster with cleanable insides.

You can remove the drawer in a washing machine usually by pressing down on a plastically bit inside and pulling it out - but check the manual/Google.

Once you wrestled the bottom off the cornbeef tin, open the top with a conventional tin opener and you can push the corn beef out.

sjxoxo · 18/09/2022 21:15

@Prettypennies well I did consider one but they’re too small and no freezer or any other bits!! I don’t understand why we can’t have an American fridge freezer thing with nicer doors; maybe a Matte black and then some nicer handles, or god forbid, holes where you can put your matching handles on. I saw a great DIY proj where someone was so fucked off by fridge design she primed and painted it and put on lovely long brass handles. It was gorgeous. Who designs these products and why don’t they do any research into what people actually want in 2022

whatyousayin · 18/09/2022 21:18

Those tiny red sauce packets which you open, and it squeezes out everywhere all over your fingers - sooo annoying!!

Yes you CAN remove the detergent drawer on washing machines, ever tried cleaning the razor blades that dispenses the water into said drawer? Good luck getting your hands in that space to properly scrub and remove the mould without looking like you’ve just been tickling a tank full of piranhas!

sjxoxo · 18/09/2022 21:19

Can I add one more thing & then ill piss off - shock absorber sports bras, or any sports bra with that extra plastic clasp high up at the back. If you live alone, how on earth do you put this garment on?? I honestly don’t think you’d be able to wear one

greenhousegal · 18/09/2022 21:21

Am with you @NancyDrooo As much as I want to save the planet I also want to save my sanity. I used to get the heebie jeebies waiting for the three eco hours to tick by. Then the sun would go in and the rain would pelt down immediately the cycle had finished.

I got a new one. 10, 14, 30 minute cycles available, hallelujah! There are longer hot washes too for those who think my sheets and towels are minging, but that is used no more than once a week.

Eco?

hewouldwouldnthe · 18/09/2022 21:23

Mascara. They always clump, dry out, blob a huge chunk on you lashes or cheek. spend hours getting rid of it, wake up in the morning like a panda despite cleansing.

greenhousegal · 18/09/2022 21:24

There's a lot of people on the thread who do a LOT of cleaning of things I never see.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/09/2022 21:26

@Neverendingdust

I use a cheap (disposable) tooth brush for cleaning inside, once I have removed the drawer.

I recently ordered a set of school exercise books because normal notebooks with the ring binder thingy hurt my hand (I’m left handed) and so I’m currently hating on the fact I can’t use my nice flowery notebook and have to stick with this plain blue one.

on a similar note I went to a postgrad open day talk to discover all the chairs with small desks where on the right hand side and seriously contemplated how I would write notes if I attended… I have yet to find a solution to this aside from a possible clipboard lol

(I realise these issues are both only problems for left handed people but still!)

Can you use the notebook upside down?

BearGryllsDad · 18/09/2022 21:27

Majority of kids toys.

comeondover · 18/09/2022 21:29

Those horrible loo seats that are smaller than the rim of the pan. Why why why?

greenacrylicpaint · 18/09/2022 21:29

coffee bags that split open when you pour hot water over them.
I hate coffee crumbs early in the morning.
