I work from home, and home is currently big and draughty and always cold. I have a heated throw but want to stock up on warm clothes like socks, leggings, hoodies etc. Will you share your warmest best buys with me please?! Thank

I'd check out Decathlon!

CornishTiger · 18/09/2022 18:59

Thermal vests and leggings!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/09/2022 19:00

Uniqlo Heat Tech is very good, they have base layers and trousers/trackies/hoodies/leggings.

Multiple thin layers are so much better than a thick jumper... and tuck the first layer into your trousers (same can be done with socks if you're not going out). Also, can't beat a light scarf indoors (IMO)

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/09/2022 19:00

Thermal underwear / ski-ing underwear

Lots of layers - thermal long sleeved vest, long sleeved t-sheet, thin jumper, middle sized jumper is a lot better than a t-shirt and one jumper. Same for your bottom half and socks.

Heated car seat thing to sit on

Fingerless gloves

Ugg rip offs to over your double layer socks

A hat rather than a hoodie

Ear muffs

Primark do cheap thermals and jumpers. Matalan often have good sales on.

Thank you for the replies, off to check out some of your suggestions :)

Think natural fibres rather artificial - wool etc and lots of thin layers. House of bruar has sale on there knitwear - I’ve use picked up lambs wool jumper for £35. Also look in men’s department - again around £35 for dark green lambs wool jumper in m&s. I always wear long sleeve scoop tops under then I don’t wash often. Blanket and got bottle for lap plus get up regularly - if anything for your eyes.

Mountain Warehouse are great for cheap, warm clothes.

BibiThree · 18/09/2022 19:08

Lots of thin layers, put a big rug under the area you work, particularly if you have laminate/wooden floors, fingerless gloves or wrist warmers. I've heard Turtle Doves are amazing but £££ I think. I always find if my head and my feet are warm, the rest of me feels warmer.

BibiThree · 18/09/2022 19:09

Charity shops often have real wool jumpers for a fraction of the cost of new.

Sarahcoggles · 18/09/2022 19:09

MN seems full of threads about people worried about money but wanting to buy more stuff to keep them warm. Unless this is your first winter in the UK, do you not have warm clothes from last year you could wear? I still wear the M&S fleeces I bought in 1991!

EL8888 · 18/09/2022 19:11

Yet another vote for a number of thin layers. Pay particular attention to feet and head

Get yourself on eBay, Vinted and Debop. Happy hunting

MinervaTerrathorn · 18/09/2022 19:11

Second hand on ebay. I've had merino or lambswool jumpers for a fiver. I have some Danish Endurance socks from Amazon that are a merino wool blend and nice and warm. Think they were £26 for three pairs but I can wear a pair for two or three days in winter (at home/work, not hiking). I have other winter socks but these are my favourite.

gatehouseoffleet · 18/09/2022 19:11

I'd look in charity shops. Otherwise Mountain Warehouse.

HermioneWeasley · 18/09/2022 19:12

Mountain warehouse always have good deals on

ebay for second hand good quality jumpers

FionnulaTheCooler · 18/09/2022 19:13

Primark fleece lined leggings are cosy.

People are looking to turn thermostats down or limit heating hours so need warmer clothing for inside use. Once they've bought what they need it will last for many years, so cheaper than heating.

IggyAce · 18/09/2022 19:14

Turtle doves fingerless gloves
Thermal vest & leggings
cabin socks

DelphiniumBlue · 18/09/2022 19:17

Primark quilted down gilets, the sort that roll up into their own bag. They are really cheap - well under £20 - and very warm and versatile. I have one at home and one at work, one (two) of my best ever buys!

FindingMeno · 18/09/2022 19:18

Definitely thermal vests and wristwarmers.
Second hand ponchos and shawls are a useful extra layer.

letmeknowwhenyourfree · 18/09/2022 19:19

Currently obsessed with Vinted and the bargains !!!!!
I love lounge sets an thick knitted cardigans for winter oooo SNUGGLY!! Also primark bed socks xx

beachcomber70 · 18/09/2022 19:21

Wool. Wear a vest, a thin wool jumper, then in the evening/very cold put a man's wool jumper on top of that! I've bought lovely ones from charity shops, sometimes new/nearly new at bargain prices.

Although synthetic a loose thick fleece top is also good to put over whatever you are wearing when snuggling down at home.

Bonbon21 · 18/09/2022 19:23

Proper slippers with a solid sole...legwarmers(!!!)... or cut the sleeves of old jumpers... no-one will see under your trousers..

Fingerless mitts... and a knitted hat!

And of course ... a hot waterbottle!

CMOTDibbler · 18/09/2022 19:28

Wear sheepskin type boots instead of slippers - mine are Matalan brand via ebay and they make a huge difference. I wear cycling merino socks from D2D which are much cheaper than fashion socks in merino and incredibly warm.
I have a giant fleece from Dunelm which is very ugly and much cheaper than an Oodie, but add a 'pashmina' from ebay in a bright colour and it looks great on Zoom plus you get the extra warmth.
