Supermarket extra busy

Violashift · 18/09/2022 13:07

Just been to Aldi and M and S and couldn't find a single car park space.
Had to go to Morrisons.

Seems to be extra busy here today. I know I was there too so it is hypocritical but I normally go on a Sunday morning and it isn't this busy.

They’re shut tomorrow.

MassiveSalad22 · 18/09/2022 13:08

Closed tomorrow, so makes sense doesn’t it?

mynameiscalypso · 18/09/2022 13:09

I think there's a certain amount of panic about most supermarkets being closed tomorrow. I know I started worrying that we'd run out of milk or bread even though it's only one day and some places are still open.

SirCharlesRainier · 18/09/2022 13:09

They're closed tomorrow so busier today. It's not really surprising!

Doyoumind · 18/09/2022 13:09

Most shops are closed tomorrow.

Whiskers4 · 18/09/2022 13:25

I work in a well known shop in town. Its heaving. We've got earphones on a few are getting stressed as they can't get on with what they're meant to be doing, no one else free to help with long queues. Just waiting for a customer to shout at me/get annoyed as I haven't had one yet. Glad I'm on my break.

womaninatightspot · 18/09/2022 13:29

I popped into Aldi this morning for milk /!lunch on the way to work and it was busy. Will be popping back this evening to get the weekly shop . I’m hoping as it’s closed tomorrow there might be reduced bargains.

UserError012345 · 18/09/2022 13:29

Asda is open tomorrow from 5pm till 9 pm

NeedWineNow · 18/09/2022 13:30

We went to Lidl's this morning for a few essentials, got there about 10.15, the car park was heaving, some shelves were empty and there were long queues to pay. When we came out people we're waiting for car park spaces to become free.

Starlightstarbright1 · 18/09/2022 13:34

I need to go today.. i have had flu so cupboards are bare .. like pp hoping some food is reduced as i have binned a pile of fresh stuff as most didn't get eaten.

User1754983 · 18/09/2022 13:36

It will be similar to Easter Saturday which is usually busy when they all shut Easter Sunday

TheRookie · 18/09/2022 13:38

Yeah it's like Christmas Eve when all the shops shut for 1 day and everyone loses their minds. A lot of smaller stores are open at 5pm tomorrow so even if you do run out of milk or bread, it wony be for long.

abigailsnan · 18/09/2022 13:39

I live near an Aldi/Lidl/Morrisons & M&S foodhall all the car parks are jammed packed I think people are stocking up for tomorrow when they have visitors for the day when they will be watching the funeral as a family.

SoupDragon · 18/09/2022 13:43

I thought it was busy but I usually go on a Monday morning when it is virtually empty (and hence why I had to go today as I hadn't planned ahead for the closures tomorrow! 🤦🏻‍♀️)

whatsup00 · 18/09/2022 13:47

It's shut for one day. I don't know why people are going crazy.

ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 18/09/2022 13:49

Just been to Asda and it was nuts.

PattyMelt · 18/09/2022 13:50

I went to Tesco, I needed some bread and stuff for school lunch Tuesday. It was packed.
I only got enough to last us till Tuesday afternoon when I can go again. Most trolleys looked like they were stocking up for the zombie apocalypse.

TwinkleChristmas · 18/09/2022 14:00

They are shut tomorrow so you will have people in there today that’s plus normally go tomorrow too. It’s to be expected.

SirCharlesRainier · 18/09/2022 14:02

Going crazy/panic/stocking for the apocalypse/it's only shut for one day!

All these points are made every Christmas/Easter and it always mystifies me. Surely it's obvious that it's just bog standard shifting of demand, and a completely reasonable reaction?

E.g. if you normally do your shopping on a Monday and the shop is planning to close on Monday, you'll go on Sunday instead. If everyone who normally shops on a Monday does the same, then Sunday will be anything up to twice as busy.

I am always amused though that people are magically able to differentiate between the sensible ones (them) and the panickers (everybody else).

cantthinkofabetterusername · 18/09/2022 14:03

I've just been to asda and it was heaving

AtomicBlondeRose · 18/09/2022 14:03

Yes, it doesn’t need to be people going crazy or panicking, it’s simply two day’s worth of shoppers in one day, made worse by the shorter Sunday hours anyway.

SoupDragon · 18/09/2022 14:04

Yes, this was me. If I'd had the common sense to think ahead, I would have done a bigger shop on Friday but I was stupid!

blebbleb · 18/09/2022 14:06

It makes sense as shops are closed tomorrow. I just picked up enough to cover us until Tuesday. My local lidl wasn't any busier than usual but then it's always heaving.

AllTheLeaveAreBrown · 18/09/2022 14:06

Went to pop into Aldi to grab some snacks for dd1 on the way to dance rehearsal....couldn't even get a carpark space! Had to abandon the idea, as she'd be late. A quick scramble through the boot of the car and old rucksacks and she ended up with 2 flap Jack's and a pack of crisps, luckily she has a water bottle.

Aldi closes at 4pm on Sunday. It won't be open this evening.
