Ninja Warrior females - why?

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:39

Why do the female contestants on NW UK have a shorter course than the men? Watching this with my two young DD, how shit for them to see the men go on to another part of the course to complete but the women don't.

I thought we were getting somewhere?? Apparently not.

But women and men are physically different... These differences exist in many sports for this reason. Its not sexist to acknowledge most women's physical strength doesn't match most men's....

Teenyliving · 18/09/2022 12:43

How do you think the men would feel if they set up a competitive breast feeding stage?

This. It is obvious.

But the rest of the course is open to both males and females, but the females aren't allowed to continue on to the next level. Why is it okay one moment, then not the next?

Yes, but you’d expect completion times to be counted separately, weights to be lighter, heights a bit lower, etc. There’s no need for a shorter course, on the face of it.

Awumminnscotland · 18/09/2022 12:46

I felt the opposite op. I was fed up seeing brilliant female athletes be beaten by mediocre males. Women are physiologically different. Not lesser, just different. Play like for like.

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:48

I agree. It's about equal opportunities, and by not allowing the females to even TRY it just undermines everything I feel we should be teaching the younger viewers.

Because Equity & Equality are different?

Ninja Warrior females - why?
Wouldloveanother · 18/09/2022 12:50

Because otherwise the men would win everything, or the vast majority of it?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/09/2022 12:50

Because physically, the female participants would then look crap compared to the male ones, reinforcing the attitude that they aren't as good as men.

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:51

But you can't have equity without equality.

OP posts:
BiggerBoat1 · 18/09/2022 12:53

What everyone else has said. Because women cannot compete with men in physical challenges. It is about equity.

CantFindTheBeat · 18/09/2022 12:55

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:51

I guess in this case, Equality is having men & women compete in the same completion.

Equity is allowing the women not to take on the course extension.

You may be right though. An adaptation of the extension might be a good answer.

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:59

I just think I family programme, that's meant to be family lighthearted entertainment they could just make it equal to all.

It just ingrains even further to young children that women are not equal. And aren't allowed the same access to opportunities than men. I understand they may not all be as physically strong, but some of them most certainly are.

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 12:59

Plenty of them, not just some.

happens in tennis in the gs men play five sets women 3

And what do you think children will absorb from seeing women constantly lose?

PuttingDownRoots · 18/09/2022 13:16

What matters is how the competitors feel. Maybe they've been asked?

Prescottdanni123 · 18/09/2022 13:23

I agree. Ive said ninja warriors is sexist for years. The course is set up for men. You are instantly at a disadvantage if you are less than 6 foot tall

mynameischloe · 18/09/2022 13:30

I'm open to other views obviously, I'm not saying I'm right and everyone else is wrong, far from it.

Yes, this is true. I wonder if it'll be that way much longer?

But would they constantly lose? Surely it's better for them to see the opportunities are open to both men and women in the first place. Women don't even get the chance.

Prescottdanni123 · 18/09/2022 13:36

Having two courses, a man's course and a woman's would be good, in an ideal world.

whatsup00 · 18/09/2022 13:50

Like other people have said - physical differences. Not sure most people realise unless they've been involved in competitive sport just how vast the differences are.

For example, Maria Mutola was an outstanding 800m runner. The best in the event ever in my opnion. Many world titles, Olympic golds. But she would be beaten by many high school boys. I think her times ranked just outside the top 1000 nationally in the US for high school boys.

Women don't have the same upper body strength - for example with pull-ups. With training men can achieve many. It's a LOT harder for women.

If you look at charts for physical strength the average untrained man is often stronger than a woman who has been training in bodybuilding (not elite level).

It's annoying.

It doesn't show them that women are not equal to men it shows them that men are not the same as men.

I really fail to see your problem with this.
