Does anybody else have this weird virus?!

My small DC's have the textbook sneezing and snotty noses you expect from children with a cold/virus but it appears to effect adults differently - I'm on day 3 of really bad stomach pain. No D and no V just this awful pain. It's worse after I eat and at its total worst at night time.

Anybody else?

Oh this is interesting...while I don't have pain, I have had nausea and dizziness for the last two weeks now, worsening at nighttime. So bad that I battled for a GP appointment who said it's probably a virus but did take some blood tests.

Chakraleaf · 17/09/2022 07:47

Yep.
Face pain
Sickness
Flu symptoms

Changemaname1 · 17/09/2022 07:49

I tested positive for covid 2 weeks ago, I still have some cold symptoms but for the last couple of days have had a tummy ache which was so painful and bloated that I had to lay down for a bit. It did pass after a couple of hours and today seems to have manifested into a lower back ache.

BuGGGGs · 17/09/2022 08:35

111 want to send an ambulance based on the screening they've done over the phone. I'm not sure what to do now as I have 3 small DC including baby and a DH who has just gone to sleep after a night shift there's no way he'll be able to stay awake to look after them. I've explained that to the operator and they've gone away to speak to somebody and put me on hold.

Lysianthus · 17/09/2022 08:39

Dont panic too much , the ambulance paramedics will screen you from home first and can do lots on board, because admitting you would be last resort (in which case your DH will definitely step up). Flowers

Pengwinn · 17/09/2022 08:40

If you need to go in then he will have to cope. Realistically for something like this an ambulance could well be hours and hours anyway. Do you have any friends or family that could drive you in?

ShowOfHands · 17/09/2022 08:41

If your DH has to, he'd do it.

My DH works nights as part of a 70hr wk so I get the fatigue but of course he could look after his DC if he had to.

Are you still thinking you need an ambulance? Is there nobody who can drive you to see somebody?

BuGGGGs · 17/09/2022 08:42

I told them I don't want an ambulance but do want to speak to somebody and hopefully have an appointment made so a clinician is going to call me back.

I don't think it quite warrants an ambulance to be honest. I'm reluctant to accept one when the NHS/ambulance situation is so dire at the minute.

I think I'll call my DM and have her come round and watch the children so I can make my own way to A&E later this morning depending on what the clinician says.

I had some odd symptoms last week. Started with stomachache, but quite high up, like just below my ribcage, which radiated to my back and it was really painful for a day or so. I then had backache same
place for the next 3 days or so, seems to have gone off now.

The ambulance issue is that there are no beds for admission. A paramedic arriving at your house can help without admitting you. Going to A&E will result in a long wait unless you aren't breathing so I'd definitely take the paramedic offer, particularly if the 111 screening has told you that you need it.

BuGGGGs · 17/09/2022 09:24

A clinician has called me back and booked me in to go to A&E at 1.45pm. I wasn't aware they could do that for A&E so that's really helpful. I'm going to have my DM come over shortly.

The clinician mentioned gallbladder a few times so I think that's what they'll be looking to rule out initially.

Both my dc have had stomach pains since Wednesday. This morning at 4.30 they both threw up. Had covid 2 weeks ago now this.

Startuplife · 17/09/2022 09:56

Yes I’ve had this really weird stomach ache right up my rib cage. On Tuesday I felt so so sick, had a really dodgy tummy but was fine to work. Then Wednesday a headache and then Thursday the dodgy tummy again in the very early morning.
I feel fine in myself now but still have a very loose stool again this morning and some stomach pain. Definitely worse if I eat.

Very unusual as I’m usually someone who only goes to the toilet about twice a week.

Fiveinthebed22 · 17/09/2022 10:05

DD was hospitalised with this last week! They did a pcr which was negative, she’s now only just got rid of her fever over 2 weeks later and her stomach pains are starting to lessen too. DS caught whatever she had (neg lat flow) but was only ill with sore stomach & fever for 2 days.

hope you get on ok at hospital

BuGGGGs · 17/09/2022 10:12

Thanks all

I'm sorry some of you / your DC have been dealing with similar. Its the pits.

The more I read about gallbladder attacks the more I think it fits, so it could be a complete coincidence that it's happened when my DC have cold virus symptoms.

I imagine they'll want to do a covid test anyway to rule that out so I will update from the hospital in a bit.

I hope you feel better soon, OP.
We've something like this erupting in our house -worst for DD2 who is having bad stomach pains.
Several colleagues (teachers) have tested positive this week after similar symptoms, and lots of kids are off too.
No tests at home but will see if a neighbour has any to drop off.

GG1986 · 17/09/2022 10:32

Could it be kidney stones? I had awful pain in my back and tummy with this and was rolling around in agony, also caused nausea and diarrhoea. Hope you are better soon x

polkadotpixie · 17/09/2022 10:37

My husband had something similar in August after my son had a virus...stomach pain, high fever etc but no vomiting so don't think it was a stomach bug. He felt terrible for a good week but tested negative for COVID twice. I didn't catch it thankfully

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/09/2022 10:39

I’ve also had this, and it’s returned at the end of each time 3 times. So I’ve had about 5 weeks of it.

Plus headache, nausea, shakey legs and exhaustion. On round 4 only one day of exhaustion. Dh has had it too.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 17/09/2022 10:47

I started with this yesterday. Stomach pain eased off a bit today but my throat feels like it's on fire. I'm exhausted, only just woken up no energy what doe ever. Sad
It's not covid me and my DS (who have me to me) both testing negative. I feel so shit.

Megadivamama · 17/09/2022 17:22

I've had the exact same symptoms since Monday and have had x 3 negative covid tests. Nights are the worst as freezing one minute and fever sweating the next. I've had the worst upset stomach ever and can't eat anything. I feel all achy and flu like and it's getting me down. Reassuring to know something is going around as your mind can go into over drive.

ShirleyJackson · 17/09/2022 17:26

DH and I came down with this in Mexico last week. That was a fun holiday.

I had heavy cold symptoms, night sweats, body aches and a sore throat.

He had all the above, plus vomiting.

Now we’re both exhausted. It’s like The Walking Dead round here. I’m still not showered at teatime.

BuGGGGs · 17/09/2022 17:33

So the doctor at hospital thinks I have a bad case of gastritis / perhaps a stomach ulcer and prescribed a 20 day course of P.P.I meds. They didn't test me for covid which surprised me. They think the fact my DC have a cold virus is just a coincidence and unrelated.

If the pain hasn't gone after the course of medication I'm to go back to my GP and ask for a referral for an endoscopy (camera down the throat to confirm or rule out an ulcer) and to be tested for H.pylori bacteria.

I do still want to do a covid test so I'll ask OH to pick one up for me from somewhere.

I'm sorry to read these accounts of illness its bloody miserable isn't it?!

OMG that's uncanny. I felt exactly like that for two days last week, thought it was a bout of indigestion or something. It did go off in the end, but I was starting to get quite worried it was something sinister.
