Anyone else feel Kate was born to be a royal?

Watching the Queen's coverage all week & Kate looks like she was born for the role. (Also please don't turn this into a Meghan bashing thread, Meghan is equally beautiful & elegant but has chosen to be a non working royal which is why this thread is about Kate).
Even looking back at old school photos she looked so poised & elegant. She had an idyllic childhood, supportive parents & is doing a wonderful job in her new role.

No.
She is basically acting in a certain role she has learned a lot about.

Of course she's acting. They all are. You just could not be interested in all those people you have to meet. But you can't let them know that. It's a role, a job. She is very, very good at it. She will be a fantastic support for her children who will never properly know a normal life.

ReneBumsWombats · 15/09/2022 12:07

The world she was born in meant she was always going to marry well and then dedicate herself to child raising, homemaking and community support. She happened to marry extremely well, but it's not really a million miles off what she would have been doing had she married someone other than William.

I find her a bit boring but she's very good at the job. Boring is what's required.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 15/09/2022 12:14

We're lucky to have her? In what way exactly?

It just shows that misogynistic standards about what makes a good woman haven't changed since her mother in law's day. Basically, be a clothes horse, produce heirs, and shut the fuck up.

I disagree. She made sure she was in the right place at the right time and worked hard to get William back after they split. She appears to have her mother's tenacity. I can't warm to her.

  1. Why is tenacity a bad thing in a woman?

  2. What makes you say her mother is tenacious?

  3. Do you not trust that William chose to marry her? Do you think he was lacking in offers or autonomy?

Lifeomars · 15/09/2022 12:17

I struggle with the whole concept of a "royal family" and the fact that an accident of birth confers vast wealth and great privilege, so while Kate conducts herself with decorum, I personally find the whole thing archaic and a very odd mix of the medieval and the militaristic. I am sure it would be better for us as a country and indeed for the actual members of this family if we grew up and dispensed with it all. The strain and pressures of royal life have proved to be psychologically damaging for some and I find the whole thing so strange and old fashioned.

Exactly. She is just a person living a very privileged life and able to wear lots of nice dresses and high heels.

TangleCry · 15/09/2022 12:19

YANBU in the sense that the royal system and expected behaviours suit her personality and skill set and physique / looks

She is the opposite of a show off, silk glove iron fist type of person, and does the 'being in service' part (act?) very well.

Same as some personalities are suited to be teachers, doctors, gardeners, architects. Her personality gels well with the royal system.

HaveringWavering · 15/09/2022 12:20

She's Catherine. Only the media call her Kate.

Scoobyblue · 15/09/2022 12:20

She's elegant, polished and projects the image of duchess and princess very well. It might be that she fell in love with a prince and it is a great love story that she was destined for. It might be that she had her eyes on the prize, wanted to be a princess and moulded herself into something indispensable for William. Or something in between the two. We'll never know. Whichever it is, she does the "job" very well.

Porcupineintherough · 15/09/2022 12:22

The eyes of the world are on the UK

Yes but have you heard what they are actually saying? It's not all, or even mostly, awe and admiration. Not that that's anything to do with Kate.

Pinkpeony2 · 15/09/2022 12:22

Brightstar12 · 15/09/2022 11:47

@Pinkpeony2 i think that's a very important point that you mentioned above. They were a very middle class family with generations of wealth. When they got engaged she was called a commoner which made her seem like a normal joe bloggs when the reality was anything but!

Yes by todays standards an understanding ‘commoner’ sounds strange but really it’s just anyone who isn’t royalty / Duchess or landed gentry.

Brightstar12 · 15/09/2022 11:41

I don't know if I agree with that. I think her parents were highly invested in her, Pippa & James. They went to the best schools, had the best of sports equipment, played every sport under the sun & had a very middle class life. However they weren't aristocratic.

Apparently known as the Wisteria Sisters at school for all the social climbing

but strategy, ambition and persistence are effective

Iwanttogo · 15/09/2022 12:22

I feel she was probably semi set up to be with Will once they'd met.
They are clearly happy together though 😊

limitedperiodonly · 15/09/2022 12:23

I really like her hair. It's long and princessy. Much as I liked Lady Di I don't think her hair worked as well with a tiara.

ReneBumsWombats · 15/09/2022 12:24

I think a lot of people aren't aware that she was born into an upper middle class family with aristocratic links via her father, complete with trust funds. She wasn't born titled, but the gulf between her and royalty wasn't quite as large as I think a lot of people believe.

TrueNorthernBird · 15/09/2022 12:24

I find her spectacularly bland. Agree with the PP that Zara Tindall is far more interesting and charismatic. I'd rather British women were 'represented' by her.

I'm also a minority in that I don't find Catherinebeautiful. Polished and elegant, yes but a beauty? Not my type.

I like her very much. I do worry she's got a bit too thin of late though.

This

Also, all those talking of old wealth, that is on her Fathers side.
Her mother was brought up in a council flat in London. Her ancestors, on her mums side, were Durham Miners.
Mrs Middleton done well for herself too.
I don't dislike any of them.
William very obviously enjoyed being with the Middletons as they were a "normal" family.

inmyslippers · 15/09/2022 12:27

She's been bred and coached from the minute she was born

I am a similar age to W&K, had I met Wills in college I wouldn't have the maturity, social skills or confidence to make the relationship last. I went out with a very wealthy man in my mid 20s (he went to a top boarding school & sisters were friend with aritsos) I was totally & utterly out of my depth even though he really liked me I felt like I didn't belong in his world & pretty much sabotaged the relationship with my insecurities.
Good on Kate for knowing William was lucky to have her & having the confidence to feel she was "enough".

I've seen wax mannequins with more gumption, get-up-and-go, personality and substance than this woman.

You could replace her with one, and no one would ever notice.

FanFckingTastic · 15/09/2022 12:30

I agree OP, I think that she is doing a great job. She's very dignified, respectful and has clearly worked hard to understand the part that she needs to play.

Most importantly she has the most excellent swishy, rich-but-effortless hair which means that she 100% looks like she was born to be royal. :-)

Pinkpeony2 · 15/09/2022 12:31

MummyBobbles · 15/09/2022 12:00

The Middletons are not old money... they are completely self-made. When they were both working at Heathrow they lived in Southall before moving to Hampshire. And had established Party Pieces as a very successful business before the children came along. Yes James inherited some money but not until 2010. I love their success.

Mr Middleton has descended very much from old money. And important connections

oakleaffy · 15/09/2022 12:31

Catherine is just a ''Very nice gel'' as our Headmistress used to say.
{Gel with soft 'G'}
Catherine was brought up in that very Home Counties way, nothing to frighten the horses, seems a good egg.

Definitely not born to be 'Royal', but well suited to the role, as she doesn't seek the spotlight or ruffle feathers.

I expect the RF breathes a sigh of relief at William's choice of wife.

It's a great shame that Charles wasn't allowed to have married Camilla from the get ~go, Camilla was clearly well suited to him, and it would have spared much stress to Diana, who may well have still been alive had she not married into the RF. {''Fleeing paparazzi''}.
