How long was your teenager an arse hole for?

DS is 13 and a half. He's had a complete personality transplant in the last few months. Full Kevin and Perry. I miss my lovely boy so much! I've no idea how to parent this imposter. How long does it tend to last?

I was a dick until I was 25 and now I'm a dream come true, very sorry and can't do enough for my parents and repeatedly make my parents aware how grateful I am for them

mamatoTails · 14/09/2022 18:31

DS is 14.5 and still ok so far, but sure that will change!
Then I have 4 girls really close in age!! What have I let myself in for!

Justkidding55 · 14/09/2022 18:34

still in it at 15… though this week he’s been ok and I’ve become
scared
to breathe or speak incase the grumpy kid comes
back! 😂😂😂😂🤣

Lacdepassy · 14/09/2022 18:40

I have no idea, I haven't seen them for 2 years as they hide in their bedrooms. I know they are still alive as all my food disappears immediately after I buy it.

Our almost 18 year old has never had a moment’s arseholery in her life.
I suspect the pre-teen will make up for that in the years to come!

My 15 and 16 year old DSs are lovely and always have been. DD is only 12, so plenty of time for her to ruin my smugness!

Sallycinnamum · 14/09/2022 18:56

This properly made me laugh OP.

I thought the toddler years were bad enough but nothing can prepare you for parenting a teenager.

I was barked at by 13yr old DS this morning for simply asking if he had his packed lunch in his bag. Its bloody exhausting!!

Knackeredmommy · 14/09/2022 19:32

My son is 17 now and much better, My daughter is 15 and deep in the arsehole stage, it was like a switch at 14 for both of them Confused

HerRoyalNotness · 14/09/2022 19:35

About 3yrs. My eldest started at 12, now 15 and is generally a lovely boy. Still throws his weight around and talks to his siblings like shit sometimes, but now is able to apologise and reflect on his behaviour. Still a bit stroppy nonetheless but we’re working on that.

Monkeybutt1 · 14/09/2022 19:42

Oh god my DS is 10 at the end of the month and is already showing teenager like qualities, am I doomed now until he's 18? 😫

VickerishAllsort · 14/09/2022 19:43

When he came home after his first term at uni.
Living in squalor and having to look after himself seemed to give him such a jolt that he became much more appreciative of his family.

hellswelshy · 14/09/2022 19:48

Ha yes, the twin girls thing...your fear is real! It's bloody tough, ain't going to lie. Fingers firmly crossed they come out the other side sooner than later, they are 14 & it started getting rocky around 12. They've had the pandemic of course during all of this too, so I'm sympathetic to what a hard time they have had. But man it's hard going at the moment...

MsTSwift · 14/09/2022 19:48

Ours aren’t rude to us but I struggle with the messiness / utter self absorption / outrageous clothes.

When those mothers of curly haired moppets start threads to muse about “whether to have a fourth” I sit on my hands..Two teens is quite enough and ours are generally acknowledged as “easy” compared to what some of my poor friends have to deal with!

YesitsBess · 14/09/2022 19:49

First one when she was about…22?

Son is 13.5 and occasionally a prick, I will report back in seven years.

Vapeyvapevape · 14/09/2022 19:50

Awful and I mean truly awful for the best part of 6years . She nearly broke me .

Lagattolove · 14/09/2022 19:50

20 year old still has her arsehole moments.

We're at age 14 now and definitely no real improvement.

At age 13 it was like a switch being turned and this sulky teenager appeared.

Occasionally we get glimpses of the funny, kind child that I know is there.

It's definitely out with family at that age and friends become the main focus. I'm hoping when she leaves school things will get better.

@Lindy2 yep I could have written this word for word myself. was definitely like a switch had been flicked when my dd turned 13 last year to, it reminded me of the kevin & Perry sketch when he goes to bed a lovely still 12 year old and wakes up as that horrible teenager! I think this is gonna last another few years yet. I miss my little girl.

Bouledeneige · 14/09/2022 20:05

DS still is and he's 20.

DD 22 never was or is.

AskforJanice · 14/09/2022 20:15

So glad to find this thread. DS has been a nightmare pretty much since he started secondary. I could weep when I see photos of the gorgeous happy little thing he used to be.

He’s 13 now and rude, entitled smart arse 90% of the time. I consol myself that it’s just natures way of cutting the apron strings when he’s older. It working as well - he he carries on like this for the next 5 years I’ll happily pack him off to uni or anywhere else really….

catinboots123 · 14/09/2022 20:16

I was an arsehole teenager. I'm still an arsehole now.

42

poppym12 · 14/09/2022 20:23

From 13 until around 21/22 but the arsehole tendencies are still there. We don't live together now and that helps immensely.

ChocAuVin · 14/09/2022 20:24

Eldest is nearly 21 and so much better. It has been a long old road since 14.

Younger two are both 15 and both take turns to get their arseholery out / be quite lovely humans.

Lacdepassy · 14/09/2022 18:40

This just made me lol. So true

Teenprobs · 14/09/2022 20:27

Slightly dickish from 12. Generally a good kid or everyone else told me what a wonderful child he was. Lockdown ruined him becoming 18 ruined him more and he's now 19 and a half with no visions of it stopping hence my username having to do a post.

Mummysharkargggggggg · 14/09/2022 20:30

Mine was still an ahole until she became a parent herself 🤷‍♀️

DontKeepTheFaith · 14/09/2022 20:30

Ds1: 13 to 18. Still has his moments at nearly 20 but he also has much more human moments!

DS2: 12 to 17. He’s just turned 18 now and is really quite nice to spend time with.

Being mum to a teenager is brutal, I’m so glad I’m getting through the other side.
