Who is overall in charge of the procession today?

You'd be shitting yourself wouldn't you? I'm no royalist but know that our forces can turn out at things like this (and glad to see so many women, particularly the one pulling the gun truck) but on whose head does it fall if it goes tits up?

I hope the crown is fixed on that cushion well! Imagine if it got dropped. Maybe they stitch it on?

I wondered that - slippery flag, cushion, flowers, priceless crown, quarter of a tonne oak coffin... what could possibly go wrong?

very moving procession and ceremony. The beat of the drum got to me.

Charles looks broken he must be bloody exhausted

Yes, they may be ‘Royal’ but they’re still human and Charles has literally not stopped since his mother took ill last week. He’s no youngster.

Duke of Gloucester. He's been walking out of step the whole time, not sure if he has mobility issues.

He’s 78 and looks as though he might have an arthritic hip

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2022 15:22

Charles looks so emotional.

I’m glad to see Tim Lawrence so much in evidence.

LakieLady · 14/09/2022 15:24

Janesdufflecoat · 14/09/2022 14:42

And of course the fabulous Princess Anne, she must be exhausted too!

I thought she looked really drained.

And I felt a bit sorry for her, as it looked as though she was having to take an unusually long stride to keep in step with the others and avoid falling behind.

DatingIsDifficult · 14/09/2022 15:24

Every time the camera cuts to Charles and I’m looking, he seems to be swaying horribly.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2022 15:28

Can they put their feet up with a cuppa now? Or is there more to do?

Bettyboo12 · 14/09/2022 15:30

How long is the actual walk? They are all doing amazingly well especially int his wealther.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2022 15:31

Its not that far, looks longer on the tv. But actually in RL. not far at all.

mpsw · 14/09/2022 15:31

And to answer the question of the thread title, commentator has just reminded us that the person in charge of all arrangements for the Queen's funeral is the Duke of Norfolk.

I'm not sure who was Parade Commander today for the procession, but the person who actually responsible for arranging is almost certainly the Army Sergeant Major (that's not just a description of rank, it's the official title for the most senior NCO of the British Army)

I noticed that! 😬😁

They can get a bit fidgety. The King's Troop horses' are only required to walk that slow at state funerals. It is much slower than the normal walk. I used to be in the regiment and coincidentally in F Subsection, which is the team with 'black' horses (in fact they are a very dark bay) used for state funerals. It is not a long walk from the Palace to the Abbey. Some of those horses will have done Queen's Lifeguards duties at the front of Horseguard's Parade so will be used to a slower pace. QLG used to involve standing still for up to two hours.

I am glad to see today at least three female troops on horseback - the officer of F Sub (a Captain) and at least the centre and wheel riders. I did not get to see the lead and the No1 (sergeant).

It was the Queen's father who formed the regiment out of Horse Artillery units following general mechanisation in WW2, though the regiment was actually formed in 1946.

It used to be a short ride back to St John's Wood, but these days horses and riders are boxed up and will travel back to Woolwich.

Theyre very young, what a responsibilty!

I was wondering how they chose which ones were to be pallbearers.

HeidiWhole · 14/09/2022 15:32

Must be very odd for William, knowing the whole thing will play out just the same for his father, and one day for himself, and George.
Unless they decide to scale it down a bit I suppose.

How proud the families must be of those chaps carrying the coffin.

they really must be. They did so well.

Peridot1 · 14/09/2022 15:35

That was amazing to watch.

The lowering of the standard the Queen gave for the last time got me.

Really hope the family have a few days of rest now but I suspect not. They must all,be exhausted especially Charles and Anne.

Jellykat · 14/09/2022 15:35

Is that humming the air con?

I think initially on height. They need them to be the same (shoulder ) height and strong.

Must be so hard to walk that slowly, it would drive me mad. Always much harder to walk slowly or stand still than it is to move.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 14/09/2022 15:39

The commentator said they were chosen as they were the tallest. Presumably the strongest too. They really did look very young.

How long do the guards stand before they are relieved by the next guard?

tactum · 14/09/2022 15:39

Going to get flamed for this but why do H&M insist on holding hands when no one else does? Did it walking out of Westminster Hall just now when everyone else was being respectful. Do they just have to convey their love is more special than anyone elses?

I noticed that too! Thought it looked out of place tbh..

That horse on the left drawing the carriage has been nibbling at its partner the whole way!

Might be the same one that did it at the Queen Mother’s funeral!

No flaming from me, I was too busy rolling my eyes.

It’s pathetic.

Quite agree. There's a time and a place for holding hands and this wasn't it.
