You'd be shitting yourself wouldn't you? I'm no royalist but know that our forces can turn out at things like this (and glad to see so many women, particularly the one pulling the gun truck) but on whose head does it fall if it goes tits up?

The commentator said they were chosen as they were the tallest. Presumably the strongest too. They really did look very young.

How long do the guards stand before they are relieved by the next guard?

Commentator said it’s 6hr shifts!

Charles looks broken he must be bloody exhausted

Oh I know. I really feel for him at the moment. Most people are allowed to take it a little easy and grieve their mother in peace. Not him. And in his 70s too

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 15:44

Six hours I think they said.

BrendaLee · 14/09/2022 15:44

I'm glad someone mentioned the 'holding hands'. It did just look so out of place!

viques · 14/09/2022 15:46

RoseAndRose · 14/09/2022 14:38

One is Peter Phillips.

I assumed the others would be equerries. I can't see if Viscount Severn (the youngest grandchild) is present

I spotted him in Westminster Hall, so didn’t do the walk thank goodness.

Charles looks so sad - I hope after today he will get a chance to pause and process the last week. He hasn't had a chance to breathe - I feel so sorry for them all.

Not sure what Charles is doing tomorrow, but I believe he is off to Wales on Friday.

HeidiWhole · 14/09/2022 15:48

M&H holding hands annoyed me too..they are 40 not 14!

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 14/09/2022 15:48

Catafalque is such a great word

CheshireCat1 · 14/09/2022 15:48

Today was quite moving I thought, it must be a really difficult day for the family and also the household. Monday, with the procession to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral and then to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor will be a piece of history for us all to witness. It’s going to a day to remember for millions around the world. May she then finally rest in peace.

DoingJustFine · 14/09/2022 15:49

The choir singing while the coffin was brought in was the loveliest music I've ever heard. What were they singing?

Bettyboo12 · 14/09/2022 15:49

They looked so young. They looked emotional too not sure of they were just relived or overcome. Probably both.

DomesticShortHair · 14/09/2022 15:49

And to answer the question of the thread title, commentator has just reminded us that the person in charge of all arrangements for the Queen's funeral is the Duke of Norfolk.

I'm not sure who was Parade Commander today for the procession, but the person who actually responsible for arranging is almost certainly the Army Sergeant Major (that's not just a description of rank, it's the official title for the most senior NCO of the British Army)

It’s not the Army Sergeant Major. The person responsible for the organising and the conducting of major military state ceremonial events is the Garrison Sergeant Major, London District. I’ve been out of the loop for a little while, but I believe it’s still a man called ‘Vern’ Stokes, who I remember because he took part in a military ‘fly on the wall’ documentary called Battle Stripes, sometime in the 90s.

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 15:50

Yes I hope they can have a cuppa and that's it for today. Charles, Anne and Camilla do look shattered.

tactum · 14/09/2022 15:39

Going to get flamed for this but why do H&M insist on holding hands when no one else does? Did it walking out of Westminster Hall just now when everyone else was being respectful. Do they just have to convey their love is more special than anyone elses?

I think they think it conveys their spiritual and mental fragility, their undying love and their determination to stand against the slings and arrows the world throws at them. I think it makes them look like teenagers in that first flush of lust they assume is true lurve. They are both nearly 40 ffs.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 14/09/2022 15:51

I thought exactly the same about the hand holding

fairgame84 · 14/09/2022 15:52

How often do they rehearse all this?
And do they do a full rehearsal together with all the troops and horses or just in separate groups?
They never seem to put a foot wrong.

Wasn't really the time or place to be holding hands. Could have waited

Skodacool · 14/09/2022 15:22

He’s 78 and looks as though he might have an arthritic hip

Didn’t he have a stroke fairly recently? Or am I confusing him with another minor royal, there seem to be so many of them, that shot of them all together at the side of the Hall was pretty impressive.

I think it might be the Duke of Norfolk. I know the Duke is responsible for the Coronation and other key ceremonials. He is then supported by a committee which would include some of the people mentioned.

Remember these plans have existed for decades. That’s why they could convert the Queen Mums for Diana.

Givenitarest · 14/09/2022 15:55

Fascinating insight SJW0. As a non-Equestrian I am very nervous watching those magnificent animals doing their duty. I always fear that one will bolt or it could all go haywire at any minute. I forget that they are constantly drilled and used to parading in central London.

Jacopo · 14/09/2022 15:55

Every horse behaved, every soldier marched in step, every member of the Royal Family walked precisely and respectfully behind the coffin. And walking away from the catafalque everyone processed correctly, except Harry and Meghan who held hands like a pair of teenagers. They absolutely make me sick with their disrespect. But in this instance it is by far Harry who should be blamed, not Meghan. He knows very well how he should behave, both as an ex royal and an ex soldier. Utterly disgraceful from him. Would he have done this if he'd been in uniform?

Pigeonpair1 · 14/09/2022 15:56

Urgh - H&M being the only ones to hold hands. It's almost like they need to show everyone how in love they are, regardless of what everyone else is doing "look at us, look how in love we are, look at how we support each other, us against the world". Rant over LOL

The choir singing while the coffin was brought in was the loveliest music I've ever heard. What were they singing?

Did they say it was a psalm ( not sure which one) arranged by the director of music for one of the choirs. The little boys looked so sweet.

Peridot1 · 14/09/2022 15:56

Completely agree about the handholding. Ridiculous and so disrespectful.

I think they said it was Bairstow's Jesu, the Very Thought of Thee
