We’re a bit sick of the commentary here…..

I, my sons, my uncle and even my royal-obsessed mum are a bit weary of the endless time-filling interviews with random people and the endless repetitive footage of the Queen doing this that and the other.

I think the most impressive bit by far was the notice on the palace gates - commentary free, like the Queen!

by all means show the rituals, briefly explain particular ceremonies and wear black but this is exhausting. I’ve got commentary fatigue

The red button to mute commentary is your friend!

CampRedLeaf · 12/09/2022 22:54

It's was the 6 hours of the Queen being driven down the dual carriageway yesterday than just made me think enough now!

It reminded me of OJ Simpson being chased by the police back in the 90s.

Sorryisjustaword · 12/09/2022 22:56

Cant you switch it off?

Switch off and listen to music instead. It's not hard 🤷‍♂️

I think the wall to wall coverage is a bit much now. The death of the Queen is a massive historic event, so I expected it over the weekend, but I think we need to be scaling back a bit now. I'm happy for them to include regular updates on what's going on, but there should be some room for other news as well. A lot of it is just time filling when they have nothing else to say.

SudocremOnEverything · 12/09/2022 22:59

I just don’t think this is a rolling news item. It’s an event - one that has been meticulously planned for and wasn’t unexpected - and a transition. Yes. A significant one, but it’s not the kind of ever evolving, fast moving situation that can be updated in rolling news.

So it’s tedious and actually starts to feel like intrusive gawping having every second of it televised and commentated upon.

concernedrepurplehouse · 12/09/2022 22:59

I’m interested (as much as the next person) but the endless filler nonsense leaves no space to reflect or feel anything.

i thought I’d be sad when she died but I’m just mildly irritated. If there’s any risk of being slightly moved the commentators jump in with exaggerated laboured commentary.

re the 6 hours -in silence it was quite effective I thought.

I'm sorry you only have one channel, that's quite unusual these days.

SudocremOnEverything · 12/09/2022 23:00

And I haven’t been watching it (no live tv in my house) other than I was in a pub today and the screens everywhere were showing it.

concernedrepurplehouse · 12/09/2022 23:02

Lol

Does this leave the other sound on though, like the crowd and possibly music?

KenAdams · 12/09/2022 23:06

I love all the stuff about protocol but the random "let's go back to Janet at the gates of Sandringham, what's happened in the last 15 mins"? Well, fuck all really, literally nothing is happening there.

CampRedLeaf · 12/09/2022 23:06

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 12/09/2022 22:59

I'm sorry you only have one channel, that's quite unusual these days.

I had chance to watch 3 films with my kids yesterday and it was only in between the films on Sky that I caught clips of the Queen's journey. If it wasn't for us all having the shits, I would've gone out.

TheUsualChaos · 12/09/2022 23:07

I think it's to be expected really so that people can watch as much or as little as they see fit. For the older generation, they will likely never live through this event again. Agree some of the filling in with constant waffle is a bit much though. Assume it will calm down a bit after Wednesday as don't think a lot happens then until the funeral day.

Helgadaley · 12/09/2022 23:07

I was sad when she died, but now I'm afraid I've had enough. Yes it's a great historical event, but, I suspect like many people who never met her, it's just getting a bit tedious now. It goes on, and on, and on.....

concernedrepurplehouse · 12/09/2022 23:11

“Agree some of the filling in with constant waffle is a bit much though.”

yes - it’s the waffle.
It should be more like “slow tv”. Lots of silence with occasional commentary. Like on gogglebox :)

My son died earlier this year and I'm just about holding on to my mental health, trying my best to stay above water but this endless coverage is really hitting me.

I've been trying to avoid it all completely but it's so hard because you can't even check the news for other news coverage now.

I think all day coverage is too much, I really just want to try and keep things as bearable as possible.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/09/2022 23:14

Turn it off

FourChimneys · 12/09/2022 23:21

I have found not owning a TV and playing lots of ABBA solves that problem.

I'm vaguely aware that the coffin is in a big building in Scotland but that's about it.

concernedrepurplehouse · 12/09/2022 23:23

Music, I am so sorry for your loss.

what helps?

MoreHairyThanScary · 12/09/2022 23:24

It's performative and enforced grieving.

Whilst it is sad the queen has died, she was an old lady who lived a fantastic life and was up on her feet 2 days before her death. I can not be sad about that. I support my patients at the end of their life and this would be a fantastic outcome, her smile on the pictures released with Liz Truss was beautiful.

The wall to wall coverage on tv and radio was too much. I am happy to celebrate her life and remember but this is just media led nonsense. Really what difference does a blacked out web page are a picture on a shop front really mean.

Maybe I am more of a republican than I realised ... this just feels forced.

OilCity · 12/09/2022 23:24

DD aged 14 has driely pointed out that she will probably see at least three monarchs before she is 35 so it's hardly a once in a lifetime event.

Always4Brenner · 12/09/2022 23:25

24 hours in A and E tonight then stranger things talking book soon.
