Price increases: What food that you bought every week have you now completely stopped buying?

I just noticed today that the 250g block of own-brand butter in Tesco has gone up again to £1.99, and this is price matched to Aldi who I assume have also put it up. Think I'll now unfortunately not be buying it at all and switching to cheap spread!

Heinz baked beans and sausages are currently on offer in Iceland for £1

shows how working class I am 🤣 but has anybody else said Heinz tins of beans&sausage yet? we used to love a tin on toast as a simple cheap lunch. last time I looked they had shot up to £1.70 per tin and they've probably gone up in price again since then so we no longer buy them.

They’re on 5 for £5 at asda at the moment. We’ve stocked up on those and the Heinz spaghetti Bolognese for my stepchildren as they’d gone stupidly expensive too

Supermarket instant coffee. Either sainsbury’s or Tesco. It’s not that bad. Or am I kidding myself?
Used to drink Dowe Egberts.

Asda Gold Blend is really good £2.50 for a large jar compared to £5.50 for Nescafe....

I tried the Sainsbury's own brand crumpets and won't be buying them again. Sweet and doughy. I'll be sticking to Warburton's!

BlackForestCake · 12/11/2022 21:38

Block butter is cheaper in M&S than Lidl right now for some reason! £2 vs. 2.15

Spirogyra · 12/11/2022 23:57

Anchor butter is on offer for £2 at the moment at Asda, not sure how much longer it will be though

lobsterkiller · 13/11/2022 06:29

Lillet tampons used to be £3 for 2 packs, now £2.20 each. I've switched to a menstrual cup.

Yoghurt are now 50p a pot dearer. I now buy the unflavoured and add honey.

I used frozen veg instead of fresh as its cheaper and less waste.

Frozen veg often has more nutrition in it, especially peas. The veg is frozen very quickly after picking while the fresh stuff deteriorates as it is shipped to stores and then waits to be bought.

This only applies to stuff like onions, cabbage, peas, sweetcorn etc and not oven chips.

Kitchen roll. I used to buy Regina blitz. A single roll costs £4 in the Co op yesterday. Frequently see it on special offer prepandemic for £1- £1.50

MyIgloo · 14/11/2022 07:51

I spent £53 in aldi yesterday (£3.49 was a candle)

That was the stuff for kids lunchboxes which I’m now spending around £25/28 a week on

a chicken at £4.49 (used to be £3.49 then £3.99) and some 5% mince that was £4.99 (used to be a lot cheaper) only reason I got the 5% as it was all they had…

The frozen roast potatoes used to be 75p a bag now 95p frozen veg is around £1.20 a bag I could go on…

I didn’t even buy a bag full of food really

I was looking at their posh butter it used to be £1.69 found a receipt with it on, now it’s £2.19.

Between the cost of fuel and the cost of food we have zero money left by the end of the month. It’s sad and scary

I'm on the cusp of giving up Method and Ecover cleaning stuff, laundry stuff and washing up liquid.

I haven't used anything else for a very long time, but the money...

I'm honestly sad about it. I'm going to have another look tomorrow and see what can be done. Not to overdramatise but It feels like a failure.

@verdantverdure we use those same brands too as it's important for us to be eco where we can although we do babe a tumble dryer habit 🤣

We buy ecover in bulk in 5 litre bottles makes it a bit cheaper and keep checking for offers eg one time it was 3 for 2 on ocado so I bought 35 litres should keep us going for a while! We also water laundry liquid and fabric conditioner down half and half with water have done for years and we don't smell!

Decafflatteplease · 15/11/2022 14:45

@verdantverdure I've literally just checked and they are on offer for black Friday on ocado might be worth a look

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/11/2022 14:50

Mince is cheaper than that at Sainsbury.

sunnydaytoday0 · 15/11/2022 20:39

I noticed 4 pints of milk in Aldi is now £1.65. That must've gone up in the last few days as it was £1.55 last Saturday when I bought it.

We get out milk delivered. It's recently gone up to £1.85 for 4 pints but the supermarket seems to be catching up with that price anyway. We debated cancelling it but realised it stops is going to the shop for milk and spending £20. Plus it's super reliable even all through lockdown they never missed a delivery

Ooh thank you. I need to keep a better eye out.

heartbroken22 · 29/03/2023 22:25

I just buy less but better quality. Less food waste now too.
