Most enjoyable age of kids

My DS is 2 next month and I couldn't imagine him being more fun than right now. He's cuddly and sweet and funny and his language gets better every day - AND he still has a long nap every afternoon. We're on holiday just the two of us right now and honestly it's been awesome.

What have been your favourite ages? I don't want him to change and yet I'm so excited to have proper conversations.

I like between 3/4/5 as the best ages

FrostyGirl66 · 11/09/2022 18:25

Age 2/3 for both my kids.

glamourousindierockandroll · 11/09/2022 18:38

My eldest is 5 now and I love this age. I think from 3 up, when he could communicate more clearly, was toilet trained and wasn't constantly trying to kill himself I enjoyed it a lot more than the toddler years. I'm really really not a fan of toddlers.

My oldest is 11 and so far I think 8 is lovely

I have twins and hated it until they were 3. It got constantly better after that until a peak at about 8. They are 13 now and I keep expecting it to get trickier but they are still lovely and so funny. I love the relationship they have with each other, and the crazy nonsense they talk with their friends. They are happy spending time with us, but hours are spent in their bedroom when I can do whatever I want. Even go out and leave them alone in the house.

3 - 9. It goes downhill after that.
DD had some serious health issues which resolved when she was 3, so I couldn't really relax and enjoy her until then. The local children's hospital was our second home until then.

Comedycook · 11/09/2022 18:56

Primary school age.

bloodywhitecat · 11/09/2022 19:25

18 months up to about 5. I love that age group. My fosterling is almost 2 and a half and I love it, there is awe in everything we do and see.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/09/2022 19:26

I’ve always assumed it’s 5-9yr olds but judging by my 5yr old I’m not so sure now

eosmum · 11/09/2022 19:27

Mine are 30, 26 and 16 and 6 was my favourite age, independent enough but still need you, no tantrums and full of curiosity. By 7 they knew it all🤣

Whendovescry03 · 11/09/2022 19:31

My DS is 4 and I've just started to enjoy his company. Age 1 and 2 was hell for me, so I'm envious!!

SparkyBlue · 11/09/2022 19:32

I love around 3 or 4 onwards when they are still very young but gone from nappies and all that stuff and they become good company but still have early bedtimes lol. My eldest DD is almost 10 and this Christmas we are looking forward to going to the ballet together so really you can enjoy any age

YerAWizardHarry · 11/09/2022 19:33

Mine is 9.5 and a true joy! So loving and caring and thoughtful but also clever and funny too! I work with children the same age and I’m also a Cub leader and know not all kids are as nice though…

DeadbeatYoda · 11/09/2022 19:33

The trick to surviving parenting is understanding that every age / stage has its own unique charms, otherwise, what are you going to feel after they have left the stage you decided was the 'best'. They are people, not consumables. Mine are all teens now and I have found something to love about every stage. All the best.

2/3yrs old. Magical years. Loved those times. Awe and wonder in everything they see and do. Lust for life and simple things thrilled them. Happy times, even a walk in the countryside was magical, or a trip to the shops a joy. Teenage years-no thanks.

MassiveSalad22 · 11/09/2022 19:33

I just love 6-18 months 😍 so adorable and learning so fast. 3 is nice. 7 year old boys are the worst I’ve experienced yet (although haven’t had a 7 year old girl yet so I don’t know if it’s just a boy thing or not!)

antelopevalley · 11/09/2022 19:35

7-9 years old. I love this age. They are fairly physically independent but still full of wonder at the world.

Summersummersun · 11/09/2022 19:37

@MassiveSalad22 our paths have crossed a few times about horrifying kids! My DS is 6.5 and yes, horror. Although every so slightly better since returning to school last week, thank goodness.

I loved 20 months, and then 4 and 5 so far. Eldest is 6.5 though so lots more to come!

AgnesNaismith · 11/09/2022 19:38

I love age 14 🤷‍♀️we can now have sensible conversations, debate the world and discuss politics.

BackToGoingOnHoliday · 11/09/2022 19:40

I think I found some of the teenage years hard - when they are moody/ unpleasant/ know it all. But all the other years - before and after are great.
Even the teenage years are good, if they’re in a good mood 🤣

Hastingsontheup · 11/09/2022 19:43

Dd was the sweetest little 2/3/4 Yr old. DS was great at 7-13, also 16-18. Dd is 15 and definitely things are getting better.

Definitelysometime · 11/09/2022 19:44

Mine are 8 and 6 and these are my favourite ages so far, they are getting more independent and can do a lot more fun stuff but still want to hang out with us. Long May it last!

mistermagpie · 11/09/2022 19:48

I love a two year old, they are tantrummy and all that but they chat away in their little voices and are still quite babyish but able to do a lot of things for themselves, it's a lovely age. Three year olds are monsters in my experience.

I currently have a two year old, a five year old and a seven year old. The seven year old is the easiest in terms of looking after I suppose, but he's also the one who needs me the least which brings its own dynamic.

Labraradabrador · 11/09/2022 19:53

@rattling that is so lovely to hear. My twin girls are 5 and mostly enjoyable - they have also managed to develop a really lovely relationship with each other that I hope continues to strengthen over time as it sounds yours have done.

KiraKiraHikaru · 11/09/2022 19:55

Newborn to 5. Can’t stand my 8 year old tbh and can’t wait until she’s older.
