Most enjoyable age of kids

My DS is 2 next month and I couldn't imagine him being more fun than right now. He's cuddly and sweet and funny and his language gets better every day - AND he still has a long nap every afternoon. We're on holiday just the two of us right now and honestly it's been awesome.

What have been your favourite ages? I don't want him to change and yet I'm so excited to have proper conversations.

Mine is 10 months old and every month has been lovely so far. I keep wondering when it's going to start to suck

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/09/2022 20:03

He whole period from school starting to teenage have been lovely. Independent and a human thinking person in her own right but not an arse.

Teenage years to come and I was a right bastard so we shall see.

Daisychainsandglitter · 11/09/2022 20:06

My eldest is 8 and I'm quite enjoying it so far. Good company but increasingly independent.
My youngest is 5 next month and can be an absolute horror at times so definitely not her age!

Teenagers . Love them. Hilarious , witty , very self sufficient, great company and they can do everything with you !!!

FoodieToo · 11/09/2022 20:08

And I have 5 of them !!

NCFT0922 · 11/09/2022 20:09

I love newborn; the cuddles, the newborn noises. Oh, just love it! My eldest is 7 and the youngest is 3 and I can’t say I’ve disliked any age yet. DS2 is testing at the moment as he is rather defiant but still lots of fun. I reckon 3-5 is the best.

NCFT0922 · 11/09/2022 20:10

@Pebble55 love your post! I am the same as you; I’ve enjoyed every stage and love soaking it all up.

Cheerybigbottom · 11/09/2022 20:11

6 was my favourite age until ds turned 10, and it's just so wonderful sharing experiences with him right now.

We watched ET at the cinema and he was crying when he thought it was the end...then edge of his seat when it all turned around! He looked at me to share the moment and whisper, "yes!!!"

Truly enjoying my ten year old

I have twins and hated it until they were 3. It got constantly better after that until a peak at about 8. They are 13 now and I keep expecting it to get trickier but they are still lovely and so funny. I love the relationship they have with each other, and the crazy nonsense they talk with their friends. They are happy spending time with us, but hours are spent in their bedroom when I can do whatever I want. Even go out and leave them alone in the house.

I have 5yo twins and have found things getting gradually better since about 3 years and I'm most cheered to read this and hope my experience is the same. Favourite age so far, now, aged 5 . Dc1 was a glorious lovely teen so I'm going to say 12/13, though I think she was unusual!

Upsidedownagain · 11/09/2022 20:12

From around 4 onwards. Old enough to be good company and to do most things independently, up to whatever age when they no longer want your company (around 12 for eldest, more like 14 for youngest in my case).

Mrssophie · 11/09/2022 20:31

I have a DD (12) AND DS (8)
Both age 8 month to 1
DD 2-4

The trick to surviving parenting is understanding that every age / stage has its own unique charms, otherwise, what are you going to feel after they have left the stage you decided was the 'best'. They are people, not consumables. Mine are all teens now and I have found something to love about every stage. All the best.

I really like that. Mine are teens - I still enjoy this stage. I can’t say I liked the baby or toddler staggers though..

Tisfortired · 11/09/2022 20:45

DS is 9 next month, and when school started last week he refused to kiss me goodbye for the first time ever 👎🏻💔 I am loving watching his personality develop, his musical tastes and personal interests and friendships. He is having more and more independence away from me, eg ‘playing out’ with his friends and it is becoming clear he isn’t a little babe anymore. I loved the 2-3 age but each year so far has been special in its own way!

Currently pg with DC2 and looking forward to seeing it all again 😊

UWhatNow · 11/09/2022 20:54

When they can buy you a drink! Love my kids as young adults. Fun, loving and we’ve become mates.

Tallulasdancingshoes · 11/09/2022 21:54

Mine are 6 & 9 (almost 7 & 10) and I love their ages now. I think anywhere from about 5-11 is good.

popandchoc · 11/09/2022 21:56

Between about 5-9. They can do things themselves so you don't have to help with everything. They are still sweet and little and affectionate.
My eldest is 11 and lovely in many ways but has an attitude sometimes.

whoruntheworldgirls · 11/09/2022 22:03

Mines 6 and so far I've loved all ages

vroom321 · 11/09/2022 22:22

11 plus

definitelynotlistening · 11/09/2022 22:42

0-1 then
1-2 then
2-3 then
3-4 then
4-5 then
5-6 then
6-7 then
7-8 then
8-9
That's all I know so far. I adored the baby stages and the toddler stage and preschool stage. By then I loved my kids so much that I love it all, but the magic of the baby days can never be matched.

Comedycook · 11/09/2022 22:50

I love the newborn stage. I'd say toddlers and teens are the toughest stages.

GreenClock · 11/09/2022 22:57

Newborn and teen.

I think that the toddler stage is hard. As needy and dependent as a newborn, but mobile and talkative to boot!

Stompythedinosaur · 12/09/2022 01:33

I have a 9 and 11yo and feel like I'm in the golden years. Old enough not be more independent so I have a bit more freedom to follow my own interests, but still want to spent time with their parents. We can enjoy mutually enjoyable activities, holidays and films. Their help with the housework and cooking is actually helpful (unlike young kids helping). It's just lovely.

Hallowbat · 12/09/2022 01:35

I thought it was when they were little but I love the teen years, mine are hilarious and are great fun to be around

Floomobal · 12/09/2022 01:40

My little boy is almost 6 months old. I’ve loved all of it so far, but I’m enjoying him more and more as he starts to develop his little personality. I can’t wait to chat to each other, but also don’t want to hurry the time up. I love having a baby

MissingNashville · 12/09/2022 01:56

Newborn stage is really special. Toddlers are fun with all the stuff they come out with, they think you’re amazing and they literally learn so fast. Some of my favourite times are when they were toddlers but they were the hardest times also, for us.

I’m also enjoying the teen years, they‘ve got proper opinions and talk a lot (at times), they’re really funny and nice company but they can also sort themselves dinner and look after the dogs if we want to go out. 😂
