My DS is 2 next month and I couldn't imagine him being more fun than right now. He's cuddly and sweet and funny and his language gets better every day - AND he still has a long nap every afternoon. We're on holiday just the two of us right now and honestly it's been awesome.

What have been your favourite ages? I don't want him to change and yet I'm so excited to have proper conversations.

Ds is 18, every age brought different challenges and pleasures and I loved them all, although I might be looking way back at the sleepless baby years with rose tinted glasses!

Well it’s not 12. She says after having already at 6.45am had blazing row with 12 year old over wearing a puffer in 26 degrees

Why? You are going to have a difficult few years if you argue over small stuff. A simple calm and conversational, weather forecast says 26 degrees today, which is hot, do you think you need a jacket? is enough, then drop it and let her make her own informed choice. Tomorrow just say, its going to be another hot one today, don't even mention the jacket. They have their reasons that we don't understand and they will learn more from their own mistakes. Start moving your role from commander to consultant. Once she has spent a day or three cooking in her puffer, or carrying it about all day she might listen next time you offer advice.

Thanks so much. He’s my 3rd. I know exactly what I’m doing. Seem to have managed the other 2 perfectly well to close to adulthood. This was a battle which was various reasons needed to be fought

The trick to surviving parenting is understanding that every age / stage has its own unique charms, otherwise, what are you going to feel after they have left the stage you decided was the 'best'. They are people, not consumables. Mine are all teens now and I have found something to love about every stage. All the best.

I have one teen and one nearly-teen and, to my surprise, I am really enjoying them at this age. The conversations, humour, being able to do things together. They are both home-bodies and haven't done anything really hair-raising yet though...I know it could be very different . Looking back I wasn't really cut out for the repetitiveness of very small children, I loved them but didn't feel very maternal

The mist enjoyable age is from 3 to 8😚

SatInTheCorner · 12/09/2022 09:08

Teenagers are the best.

runforyourdog · 12/09/2022 10:04

Mine are 5 and 7 and pretty nice ages at the moment. I'm not a fan of toddlers myself, mine were bloody nightmares at 2/3.😂 waiting it out now until the teen years!

caffelattetogo · 12/09/2022 13:00

I loved them all, but 1-2 was especially cute!

toooldtocarewhoknows · 12/09/2022 17:02

Just coming on to say 2-3 when I read that yours is that age.

It's such a joyful age. Everything is new and wonderful to a 2 year old.

I felt so blessed to experience this.

YingMei · 12/09/2022 17:03

Having not much liked the toddler and pre-schooler era, I am very much enjoying my DC who are 7 and 9

Bunnycat101 · 12/09/2022 17:30

My 31/2 year old is lovely at the moment. She still needs me and is so wide-eyed and interested. She’s still cute but getting more independent. I also am enjoying my 6yo in a different way. She’s more like a buddy and can have some interesting conversations, go to the theatre together etc. it’s quite a nice combination at the moment.

AliceW89 · 12/09/2022 17:34

I absolutely adore my 2 year old. Toddlers are hard, don’t get me wrong…but the joy he finds in the world and the joy he brings me are immeasurable. I will miss this age a lot and it has made me want a second despite really struggling through the first 12-18 months.

Gatehouse77 · 12/09/2022 17:41

9-18m
The acquisition of language, mobility, learning about the world around them, the curiosity of everything, emotions maturing, etc.

And still have daytime naps 😜

DinosApple · 12/09/2022 17:46

They were super cute from 3-6 months - smiley, but also cleaner than the weaning stage.

All the ages have had their good bits to be honest. I've got a 13yo and an 11yo now, I mean clearly the toughest stage is still ahead with both, but they're alright so far!

And my 13yo cooked me dinner yesterday! Living the dream!

Smellywellyhoo · 12/09/2022 18:52

Primary school aged. Still small, cute and cuddly but out of nappies, capable of having a conversation etc.
