Now that the Queen is gone, if there were ever to be a referendum, would you vote to keep or abolish?

I would vote to abolish.

Abolish

Keep. It is good to have a non political head of state.

But keep it tight. Do away with Andrew, Edward etc.

BluePassportsAreBollocks · 10/09/2022 04:46

Keep

But have slimmed down version like other European countries. They do a huge amount of work for charities and raise so much awareness ( way more than if we had a president).

i was worried about Charles but I think he will be ok.

Abolish. 100%. It’s such an outdated notion.

Keep the money, that's just the luck of birth, but hereditary titles and power is bonkers

they have very little power. No more so than any other super rich family.

titles don’t make much difference either these days. Unless you have the money to back it up you’re just the same as everyone else.

i would vote keep as they bring a lot of tourist ££££££ in. If we abolished they’d still have pretty much the same money and status, with no obligation to the country. Might as well keep them up and earning….

But if the monarchy was abolished that wouldn’t mean the decline in tourism. Tourists never get to see the royal family anyway, just the buildings and everything associated with that.

The Lourve and Versailles palaces are in the top 5 of the most visited castles and palaces in the world and the monarchy was abolished there in 1792! And yet the people still come, the tourists always come.

Abolish - it’s completely nonsense and juvenile. The world see us as this place where with this odd fairytale nonsense. A curiosity for them to visit and think “how cute”. It makes us look less than serious. Like we’re caught in an ancient past.

And it’s nonsense to claim any of these ordinary, low achieving people are better than us. It requires a certain level of stupidity that elevate them above us in the manner required of this monarchy.

Keep. I'm sort of on the fence about them but, at the moment, I'd vote keep. It will be interesting to see what Charles does with Andrew. I hope that now he is in charge of the purse strings he cuts Andrew off as he has done with Harry.

Abolish, I think. Still, a bit of me likes the pomp and circumstance of a monarchy, but the older I get, the harder I find it to square it with the inequalities in our society.

agree
