Tell me your favourite comfort TV shows

Basically anything that is the TV equivalent of a hug. Particularly shows that are perfect for autumn/winter nights, the kind of thing it's nice to watch when it's dark outside and you're curled up under a blanket.

I've rewatched my favourites recently and want to start something new. Gilmore Girls is top of my recommendations and is great for autumn. Friends, How I Met Your Mother and Death in Paradise are all on my list too. I liked Parks and Rec but that seems to have disappeared from Netflix and Prime.

Nothing too sad or soppy please as I'm lonely and struggling after a breakup 😂

Bonus points if it's on Netflix, Prime, Disney+ or any of the free sites/apps

Oh yeah, the 90s Pride and Prejudice with Colin emerging from the lake and Lizzy’s heaving bosom

Lovejoy
I mean it might not have aged well but it was great tea time telly

The avengers with Diana Rigg

Jeeves and Wooster w Stephen and Hugh

Danger mouse

Willow the Wisp

The film adaption of a company of wolves

Stardust, like the Princess bride but better

Barefoot in the Park w Redford and Fonda, a hard to find little gem

Seem to have drifted into film..

Shtisel on Netflix.
It's about an ultra orthodox Jewish family, mainly centred around the youngest wayward son and his widowed schoolmaster father.
It's absolute bliss, so gentle, all the main characters are lovable, some baddies but even then you can understand them and it's funny, no sex drugs violence rape just pure comfort.
It is subtitled, it's in Hebrew and Yiddish, but so worth it if you can deal with subs, I've rewatched it a few times I just love it.

Friday night dinner never fails to cheer me up. My favourite episode is the one with the fox

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 09/09/2022 01:07

For me, Star Trek: The Next Generation. I must have seen every episode multiple times, and I know all the characters so well it's like settling into a familiar chair. Takes me back to childhood, early evenings, on the floor in front of BBC2.

The good life, could watch that over and over.
Lets eat, a kdrama
Allo allo
Recently been rewatch ing sabrina the teenage witch on amazon which is cheesy beyond belief but still a great thing to have on in the background.
Friday night lights

Charmed (the original from 1998 > not the 2018 > reboot). It's supposed to be scary but the SFX are so bad they're funny. Plus lots of '90 San Francisco nostalgia and music.

The Carrie Diaries.

Malory Towers (except not Series 3 as Miss Johnson is terrifying).

Uptowntwirl · 09/09/2022 01:17

Office - us and UK
Frasier
Cheers

Catquestion · 09/09/2022 01:19

Emily in Paris (pure cheese but so easy to watch)

I've just been watching the original series of All Creatures Great and Small. Some of the acting is less than stellar but the msin characters are good, the stories are still great and it brings back happy childhood memories for me. Definitely a good series to cozy up by the fire with.

OM82 · 09/09/2022 03:50

Another vote for the detectorists.

And all creatures great and small.

Thursa · 09/09/2022 04:07

I've been poorly sick for a couple of days and watched Friends from lunchtime yesterday until about 10.30. I found it very soothing, especially with all the big news on tv.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/09/2022 00:41

Series one of Outlander.. very escapey and lots of humping and epic Scottish scenery

I love Outlander but personally it’s about as far from comfort TV as possible for me more edge of my seat shock and I don’t want to spoil it but season 1 in particular had an episode that shocked and disturbed me for days! Everyone is different though 😀the scenery is stunning.

Comfort TV for me is mostly what’s been mentioned already, Friends, US Office, Schitts Creek, Modern Family, Gilmore Girls, BBC Pride and Prejudice, Bridgerton, Sanditon, Trying, Outnumbered, Call the Midwife.
