My brother said they were told early, doesn’t make sense?

I work in Local Gov and we were told in the afternoon to “be prepared” but I then found out with everyone else.

Nickysmadhouse · 09/09/2022 19:12

Gosh, i do believe there has been a mass betrayal of security (if i have read all these comments correctly) and ‘keeping ones gobs shut’ amongst those that are posting their sisters husbands aunts fathers friends sister in law’s daughter nephew works for the local councils public toilet facilities.
in such cases these must be investigated and lead to removal of employment to protect our future…. No?
for the love of God, at the very least, a woman has Died, a Mother, a Grandmother, a Great Grandmother, Sister, Daughter, Aunt etc etc and to us mere mortals a Queen, OUR Queen, has left us to be with (if you believe) her beloved stand and stay Husband…. Please show some respect, pipe down, be united in the grief or just simply be quiet. God bless our beloved Queen and long live our King

I suspect she was
A. Either told a week or so ago it was Liz Truss or
B. Photos were taken of both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak just in case.
Doubt they were taken 2 days ago.

Do you feel better now? Senior enough to be the youngest ever in his position and that’s good enough for me 😊

It’s Tom Pursglove isn’t it????

if it is I suspect he did know - just didn’t tell you.

bottleofbeer · 09/09/2022 19:16

God, I don't think anybody is claiming importance but yes, there have always been protocols in place where certain organisations will be informed before the formal announcement.

I didn't have a scooby but now I think about it, things DID go odd at work about lunchtime and yes it's the kind of organisation that would be informed.

No, I'm not in Scotland.

User148563 · 09/09/2022 19:16

Someone on one of these threads knew last Friday...

bottleofbeer · 09/09/2022 19:20

Nobody knew on Friday 😆

Joonio · 09/09/2022 19:21

Son got a text telling him to put everything on hold but didn't actually say she had died.

bottleofbeer · 09/09/2022 19:24

News readers were wearing black ties at lunch time. Think about it. It would have been grossly misjudged if they did that without either knowing for certain that it was 100% imminent or had already happened.

You don't make fuck ups like that where the death of a Queen is involved.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/09/2022 19:30

Did she have nuclear files or something?
God alive.

This is what I thought - black ties, "medical supervision" and talking about the Queen's life at lunch time. They clearly weren't going to go - 'Oh no, it's fine, she's rallied, put your multi-coloured ties back on lads and let's cut to Eastenders.'

The UK would have been an international laughing stock- couldn't even work out when its head of state was dying. So, I don't think it took a great deal of insight to realise that she was either dead or very close to it at midday. You didn't need a hotline to Balmoral to read the signs.

KassandraOfSparta · 09/09/2022 19:39

ATC were asked to pass a message to Prince Harry in the air that he was to call his father urgently. So although not officially told, the inference was obvious that the Queen had died and Harry was to call Balmoral immediately to hear the news.

She died 4-4.30pm. I don't understand why everyone is so desperate to assume that there is a big conspiracy to cover it up or make everyone think she died later than she did.

Younger than him! 😄
My point was he is ‘quite’ senior and only those on a need to know basis would have been told.If that makes him less senior so be it. Have a good evening.

QuebecBagnet · 09/09/2022 19:46

Someone I work with is convinced she died quite a few months ago but they’ve been using a body double because of the jubilee. 😂

You too.

and honestly to be the youngest person ever to get to one of the SCS grades is an amazing accomplishment - you are right to be very very proud. I wasn’t trying to take away from that. Just pointing out that the senior leadership team in the home office would have heard before you did.

No but seriously - have you lost your mind?

pawkins · 09/09/2022 19:48

I only read today that Charles always travelled with a black mourning suit in his luggage. The palace really is a well oiled machine.

KassandraOfSparta · 09/09/2022 19:52

Can people REALLY not tell the difference between :

A: John has died.

B: John is very seriously unwell, we've spoken to the doctors and we think he's got at the best 6 hours left, it's not a question of "if", but "when".

Of course the Beeb, media, Army etc knew that Her Maj was on the way out and that she was unlikely to live more than a few hours. That is NOT THE SAME as taking the midday statement as "she's dead already".

bottleofbeer · 09/09/2022 19:52

My wordddd. None of this is even particularly secret. The protocols have been known for years.

It's announced later, not immediately because there are people and organisations that need to know.

This really isn't a big deal.

EloiseBridgerton · 09/09/2022 19:54

I don’t think this is complicated. She was well enough to meet Liz on Tues went downhill on Wednesday /wed night so the first alarm went out to those who needed to know, then she passed quicker than they perhaps anticipated given family were still making their way there. I don’t want to join in the ‘I know someone who is in the know’ but I actually do…a household name bbc broadcaster. He was told to prepare and not go anywhere, but they weren’t told earlier in the day that it had happened..just that it was going to happen soon.

bottleofbeer · 09/09/2022 19:57

It's not remotely about conspiracies. It just is. Same when her dad died. It was announced hours later. It's normal.

Weird thread.

There's an awful lot of shit secret keepers on mumsnet 😅

Exactly this - the moment the speech went really slow, almost a words gap between words, signified some serious stuff going on in the headpiece
