Trying to decide whether I need one in my life. Tell me your last 3 air fryer meals, best snack and a bonus question why it’s the best kitchen appliance you’ve got.

I got a dual drawer one and haven’t used the oven since (fuck you Ovo Energy!!)

It costs a fraction of the oven and you can cook basically everything in it. Mine even fits a chicken to roast and it comes out amazingly. Far better than oven roasted.

That and a slow cooker is going to be my go to for the rest of this calamity.

Which one ?

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 06/09/2022 22:08

Jacket potatoes tonight, it makes great Jackets!

Not done much yet as I haven't had it long. I would recommend a two tray one as I can't do a full meal in it.

Great for crispy potatoes, sides like onion Baji, chicken strips etc though

Firstinlastout · 06/09/2022 22:11

Can you cook frozen corn on the cob in it or is it best to defrost first? Also if using the ninja what setting and temperature will it be,is it just air fry.?

Tonight, I've cooked:

Jacket potatoes for DS and me.
A garlic pizza bread for my cousin.
Fish for DP to have once he gets home.

For lunch, I cooked some southern fried chicken in there and made us both a wrap.

Last night, I parboiled some potatoes cut into chips, mixed with some olive oil and paprika and air fried to make chips. Yesterday morning I made my bacon for my sandwich in there.

The night before I cooked our burgers in there.

I only really use my oven now for baking cakes. It's so much quicker to cook something without waiting for the oven to heat up, and the cooking time is much less, too. And costs a fraction of the price compared to the oven.

Snacks wise, my DP loves heating a scone in there for a few minutes, soft and fluffy on the inside with a little crunch on the outside!

Parboiled some potatoes, squashed a bit them with the bottom of a glass, chuck them in the air fryer with a bit of chilli oil. Amazing! Even more amazing when you put a garlic bulb wrapped in foil in there too. Mix with a bit of Mayo afterwards…slurp.

Today made banana bread and roast half a chicken at the same time - I have a Ninja 300 Air fryer with 2 drawers. Took 35 minutes in total - cost about 20p in electricity. Then for dinner we had flatbreads (warmed up 1 min) with various salads and halloumi done in air fryer 3 minutes.
I’ve also made Mac n cheese, roast spuds, sausages, bacon, wedges, falafel, twice bakes cheese soufflés (initially cooked in an ordinary oven then frozen).
I’m going to have a go at lasagne tomorrow (ragu cooked in the slow cooker last week and frozen so it’s an assembly job then cooked in the AF rather than the oven)

I absolutely love the convenience of mine.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/09/2022 22:17

Air fryer sausage rolls (frozen ones cooked through) and wedges
Made flapjack
Roast chicken and roast veg

Ahf22 · 06/09/2022 22:20

There’s a bit of a weirdness about the massive push for these air fryers. I fell for it. Of course I did.

tried to make onion rings for the DC. Never again. They tasted like shit. Uncooked onion and dry crumbs. Ugh. Wasted some good eggs for the batter too.

I will have to muster up some enthusiasm to attempt something else in it.

shedwithivy · 06/09/2022 22:24

Watch out for things that should be fried, they may need brushing with butter/oil otherwise they will will be cooked but dry/nasty. We found that with frozen churros.

Soontobe60 · 06/09/2022 22:25

ScarlettDarling · 06/09/2022 21:35

Do most air fryers just have one deepish drawer? And if so, can you only put things in a single layer?
Trying to figure out if I’d be able to cook a meal for 4 in it, eg 4 salmon fillets and wedges.

Mine has 2. If I were cooking your dish, I’d cook the wedges first until almost cooked, remove them and cook all the salmon - which won’t take long - remove that onto hot plates and give the wedges a quick blast on the crisp setting. You don’t need to do fries / wedges in single layers as long as you give the drawer a good shake a few times.

Soontobe60 · 06/09/2022 22:27

One thing about using an AF is that you set the time beforehand which means that if you’re distracted - as I was today when making my banana loaf by an urgent phone call - there’s little chance of the food overcooking. So in that respect it’s better than an oven.

The name put me off at first. You can't fry in air, you need fat or it will be horribly dry. I use plenty of oil for whatever I cook and it works well.

Hollands cheese pie and chips.

Jacket potato

Linda McCartney Mozzarella Cheeseburger

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/09/2022 22:34

We've had one for years and wouldn't be without one.

We like
Meatballs,
chicken wrapped in bacon
Roast vegetables.

Leftover roast veg reheats brilliantly and is crispy and delicious.

We liked the fact that if we needed the dc to have a quick tea, they could easily make their own dinner without dealing with hot oven trays.

ThistlyPerf · 06/09/2022 22:50

Ninja 11 in 1. It’s a bit of a beast but worth it. 5 weeks old. The oven hasn’t been on since.

  1. chicken crown - the most tender juiciest yet crispy chicken I’ve had, ever.
  2. crispy tofu for peanutty veg stirfry
  3. carrot banana bread

snack/ breakfast/ lunch/ dinner = homemade sesame prawn toast. The most delicious thing the ninja has produced yet.

liveforsummer · 06/09/2022 22:57

Steak, chips and onion rings last night (did veg in microwave), quiche, tray of meatballs in sauce (from Tesco meal deal) DD9 loves making filled wraps or pitta bread pizzas in minutes. So easy for her to manage herself. I also do boiled eggs which has been a game changer

LennartandL · 06/09/2022 23:42

champagneplanet · 06/09/2022 21:14

A full roast chicken (took 40 mins)
Pizza and homemade chips
Jacket potatoes

You need one in your life. Best thing i've bought in ages. The food cooks quicker and just tastes fresher.

Which one do you have pls?

This is what I am thinking, huuuuuge push suddenly. Adjusts tin foil hat.

QuebecBagnet · 07/09/2022 06:33

I bought a little metal trivot which fits in mine and makes it a double story drawer.

AtomicBlondeRose · 07/09/2022 06:40

Maybe the huge push is because they’re easy to use, economical and (unlike slow cookers) very versatile and make good food? I appreciate that’s not much good for a conspiracy theory but it’s all true.

I mustered energy to cook a ready prepared spatchcock marinated chicken in our posh ninja grill/air fryer yesterday. I may have saved 10 minutes cooking time but the cleaning took and extra 20 as the marinade had burnt on and I didn't want to scour the non-stick coating. Plus I had ti wash the rice cooker as the oven wasn't on to pop the potatoes in......

I am not a lover.....

Goldmember · 07/09/2022 06:49

Chicken Korma and rice
Fish Burgers
Sausage pasta

Snack; cheese on toast or hash brown, BLT maybe because bacon is so quick and easy to cook.

Ninja Foodi is fab because it's an AF as well as pressure cooker and steamer (see rice and curry dish). Straight into the dishwasher afterwards, no scrubbing of baking trays.

gogohmm · 07/09/2022 06:50

Depends so much on the number you are cooking for! It's easier to use my oven cooking for 4 including a vegetarian

gogohmm · 07/09/2022 06:54

I have a 12 in one cooker that's also a pressure cooker, air fryer etc but the only thing I use it for is rice
