Why is Paris so expensive?

Just looking at flights and hotel for 2 nights away for 2 adults. The flights are okay but the accommodation is pricey. For such a short amount of time I don’t see the point in staying too far away from the main attractions so looking at close to the Eiffel Tower. Am I overreacting to think around £150 a night is expensive? Because that’s the cheapest I’m getting no matter what days I put in. Trying to avoid a weekend as well.

I go regularly and have never paid that! Having said that, I wouldn't choose the area around the Eiffel Tower.

Try the Terrass in Montmartre, great bar, usually around 130€ a night.

As others have suggested, Canal St Martin area is also good but be wary of hotels that use "Marais" in the title when they're nowhere near!

I've just paid l130 for a night in a Manchester Travelodge lol.
I'd stay in the Latin quarter in Paris rather than near the tower, but like others have said its easy to get about in Paris wherever you are.

Stirling is on the floor. And heading into the basement. No bargains for us

To be honest, no, that doesn't sound expensive to me for the centre of a European capital city - unless it is grotty. Have you tried London lately??

We normally book apartments, but for 2 people that may not help so much. I think we paid about £150 per night last August/Sept but for 4 people. We stayed in Quartier Montorgueil which worked really well. Not too touristy, but close enough that we could still mostly walk and lots of nice foody places nearby.

He tells me it's an area full of sex workers...

If you think that is bad you should check out Dublin. It will make your eyes bleed

I like Paris and I always stay at Ibis. At this moment my favorite is Ibis budget Clichy de Mairie, it is in nice part of the Paris, right next to metro station and there is a 15 minute ride on line 13 to centre. Best part is the price - it is always around 70 euros for two, 80 for family room.
