Should DH see a Dr or is he right in if would be a waste of time?

DH became unwell on Saturday night…

Achey, grouchy and didn’t really know what to do with himself, on Sunday we had something on for one of our DD’s which I asked if he wanted to cancel and he said he would be fine, on the way home he said he was feeling better and I thought that would be the end of it.

Sunday night he started getting really chittery and he has continued to go down hill since then, he has had constant diarrhoea, one minute sweating and the next shivering, he is pale with no energy and has spent the last 3 days sleeping, he also has terrible stomach cramps.

He’s not eaten properly since Sunday and although constantly sipping on water definitely losing more fluid than taking on.

I have said I think time to now give the OOH’s of GP a call but he is adamant that it’s just a bug or something he ate and it will pass soon.

I do get quite bad HA and wondering if that’s skewing my view of what’s the best thing to do..

(he has tried Imodium and it’s done nothing)

My OH had this over the weekend bunged up to start with so drank orange juice which did the opposite, he's better today though. I'd leave it a bit longer. Starvation diet for 24 hours just water should see it off

Yes I’d phone a Dr, he doesn’t sound well at all.

Get him some diluted juice with a pinch of salt in to drink instead of the water (or dioralyte or similar).
Take his temperature. If his is over 38 he can try taking paracetamol (remember to note when and how much, to stick to the correct dosage).
If it's been 3 days and he's actually getting worse then get him to ring 111. If he's getting better, albeit slowly, he'll probably continue to recover - you can always ring 111 later if he takes a downturn.
How does that sound for a plan?

Has he done a covid test ? I had shivers with it.

sendwineandastraw · 06/09/2022 14:58

@Fenella123 Ahh thank you!

he has had some dioralyte but can try the diluting with a pinch of salt.

He really isn’t liking me fussing but will try and pin him down to get his temp.

I would say after 3 days there hasn’t been any change, he said he things that he is regulating his body temperature better but I think he is sleeping and running to the toilet more and not a particularly healthy colour. (Pale)

@KangarooKenny definitely not Covid.

Immodium wont help, especially if its a virus like noro or covid. Has he got a temperature.

I was exactly like this with campylobactor. Started off 'not right' and ended up shitting every 20 minutes for the best part of a week. I was ill but still ate and drank, doctor said best thing was to let it run its course as long as I didn't get dehydrated.
Don't take immodium, whatever it is needs to run through. Keep fluids up

I'm not sure the doctor will do much. I had a D&V bug for a week, had to get signed off for another week but I mainly went to doctor as I felt so thirsty - every time I even had a sip it came out one end or the other. Doctor diagnosed gastroenteritis and sent me home to recover with no advice.
